Clomid TTC

lucymc11 · 21/07/2022 13:14

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

@mk85 thanks. I think you’re right but not sure when you ovulate naturally because I think clomid is the one that produces multiple eggs and letrozole mostly only produces one. Anyway, I didn’t even have one on my scans but they’re still saying I have ovulated 😭😭🤯🤯

How can they tell from a scan alone, could you get some bloods done with your GP?

Hoping43 · 27/07/2022 09:41

@Harper02 they watch the follicles develop over multiple scans but every time I’ve been they’ve said they’re all 10mm or less and a dominant one should get to 18mm plus. Then they’re supposed to see afterwards that the dominant one has turned into a corpus luteum. Haven’t seen that either! But my lining has thickened as it should in response to ovulation so they’re saying it’s happened between scans. I’m really not convinced at all so very frustrated

I've hit another stumbling block and can't find a pharmacy with Clomid and Norethisterone in stock. Nothing is ever simple 🤣.

Has anyone got either from a pharmacy chain recently?

OP posts:
Longbin · 27/07/2022 10:32

@lucymc11 I got Norethisterone from Superdrug online

MK85 · 27/07/2022 16:13

@lucymc11 I checked superdrug online yesterday and Norethisterone is out of stock.

How does ordering from superdrug ect online work anyway? I'm assuming one of their doctors reviews your request for it ?
I checked my local pharmacy this morning to see if I could get it but the pharmacist told me I'll have to go speak to my gp first

lucymc11 · 27/07/2022 16:28

@MK85 yes my local chemist said it's out of stock most places at the moment. I'm going to order some provera online and have asked my doctor to confirm dosage instructions - will share with you once he's confirmed.

Yes you basically just fill in a form with some medical history and then it's sent to a pharmacist who reviews, writes the prescription and then they post it out to you.

Seems to be a shortage! I visited 6 pharmacies for my clomid and I'm still owed 25 tablets

KittyWitty · 28/07/2022 08:09

@lucymc11 Boots pharmacy were able to order my clomid in for me. They gave me 5 and then I had to wait two weeks for the rest.

MK85 · 30/07/2022 19:52

Is there any difference between the Norethisterone and provera ?
Is there one more effective than the other at inducing a period or they just the same

lucymc11 · 02/08/2022 18:15

Picked up my clomid today from Boots - managed to get their last box. It's so hard to get hold of!

@MK85 I can't find norethisterone or provera anywhere, apparently there's a national shortage. Now I'll have to wait for my period - hope it comes soon.

Hey all, hope it’s ok for me to jump on this thread. Just had my first scan on monday after my first round of Chlomid (50). She didn’t see any sign that ovulation might occur so I’m back in tomorrow to check again but she as good at managing my expectations and probably unlikely this month. Will go up to 100 for next round if nothing.

wishing you all the lucky and sprinkling baby dust all over this thread!!! Xxx

TTCX2 · 02/08/2022 18:36

Pardon my terrible spelling.. auto correct 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

MK85 · 02/08/2022 20:46

F* sake , I'm reading online they are expecting the shortage to last until the end of the year.
How bloody frustrating for ladies likes us.
I only have 1 or 2 periods a year naturally and I'm turning 37 this year so i hate that I might have to wait further months to get started

Hopeful1992 · 05/08/2022 00:26

Hope nobody minds me jumping on this thread. Currently been prescribed metformin while I wait for another ultrasound and then providing everything is still ok I’ll be onto clomid, I have PCOS and currently on week 3 of my period 😫 nightmare! Not overweight but I have put about 7lbs on over the past 12 months so hoping the metformin helps me lose it and maybe balances my hormones out a bit! Sending baby dust to everyone

MK85 · 05/08/2022 04:45

@Hopeful1992 week 3 of period haha I've been there on a few occasions. I recall bleeding for 7 weeks back In 2020 .
How are you getting on with the metformin ?

lucymc11 · 05/08/2022 10:32

Hi @TTCX2 and @Hopeful1992 - let’s hope we all get some positive news over the next few months.

@MK85 it’s so frustrating - you couldn’t write it. The only other thing I can suggest is the hormone balance vitamins from MyVitamins. They helped regulate my cycles from anywhere between 40-70 days to pretty much 35 days. They’re not cheap and can’t promise they’ll work for you but the reviews are good and they’ve helped me.

Hi all I’m currently on my 1st cycle been without contraception and “trying” for 8 years I have PCOS and I had a natural pregnancy 12 years ago but I dropped a hell of a lot of weight at that time and delivered a 28 weeker baby (he’s perfect now btw) one thing I got from other threads is that for PCOS if you’re not prescribed metformin or it doesn’t agree with you then to try inositol I’m taking myova branded and I tell you it has done wonders for my moods and my periods and anxiety and a lot of threads have said this combined with clomid was a real success so here’s hoping!!

i was wondering if anyone had a full aching in the vagina area as I’ve had it since pill 5 and I’m now almost 4 weeks post pill 5 and still having a full ache and the occasional sharp pain?

in terms of the fertility tests I’m yet to have a line as dark as the indicator and decided to stop doing them as it’s upsetting!

the only monitoring I’ll receive is 21 day blood tests on cycle 2 and further

good luck to you all it’s such a hard journey no matter your circumstances xxx

MK85 · 06/08/2022 23:55

@Jadeybabes86
I did see a thread on a previous forum a few weeks ago when I was researching clomid and a few ladies mentioned pain in the vagina while taking it so it must be common enough . Maybe it's triggered by hormones? I don't know. I'd mention it to your gp / consultant if it dosent settle down soon to see what they think.

I'm yet to start my first cycle 😫
Impatiently waiting on my period now but I often go months without a bleed.
I've been on metformin since March and I've taken inositol for the past year but neither seem to be helpful at regulating cycles

Could you ask for provera to induce your bleed so you can start clomid? X

Jadeybabes86 · 07/08/2022 00:23

Thank you I’m glad you’ve seen it on other forums because I’ve searched high and low and only seen cervix pains whereas this feels like it’s in the actual vagina 😬

has your specialist not prescribed anything to induce a period with you being so irregular? I’d mention it to them because when I went they advised to continue with the cycles as it’s best to keep the cycles of clomid regular so it gets into your system, I have taken uvlatron before it stops the period but once you finish it then induces a bleed but I know there’s other types that do this so I’d mention it to your specialist!

im uk based and using NHS based specialist

do you have PCOS? Maybe try a different brand of inositol the myova one is fab xxx

MK85 · 07/08/2022 20:46

@Ldougal92 @Jadeybabes86

Have a telephone appointment with GP on Tuesday so I'm going to ask for something to bring on a bleed..or rather demand it. 🤬

I'm losing my patience big time.
I sat on nhs waiting list since 2019 to see gynae and first appointment i got was in March 2022 and it's now August and we still haven't made any progress.

Both gp and gynae clearly seem reluctant to prescribe anything to induce a bleed to be honest. When I first went to gp back in 2019, I had a complete stop in menses. I went a year and half without a period and gp never mentioned anything about medication being available to bring on a bleed she just sent on a referral to see Gynae. Gynae then sent me off to get blood tests day 2 and day 21 of period and I had to wait 3 months for a period to come naturally to get those bloods done which timing was just luck then she prescribed clomid start of June and never gave me anything to start a bleed now either , even know she's aware I go long periods of time with no cycle.
Now they've just abandoned me basically. I tried to ring them and I was told I can't see gynae again that I'll have to take the issue up with my gp. Surely they have a duty of care to a patient that they haven't fulfilled.
I'm growing increasingly frustrated and stressed each month that passes by as I'm turning 37 this year 😩

Yes I have pcos.
Never tried myova brand. I've been taking conceive+ which is basically just myo inositol, q10 , ginger and folic acid.
Then I'm having to supplement with a separate multivitamin and metfomin 3 times x 500mg daily .
Metformin did give me an initial kick-start. Appx 30 days after starting it I had a proper period , then 3 weeks later had a very scanty bleed for a day or two and again 2 weeks later a normal period again. I haven't had periods that often in years. Side effects were horrible tho. 3 months of diarrhea 😂 its all calmed down now thankfully but then so has the effects it was having on my cycles. It dosent seem to be helping regulating now at all. Not sure why it would stop working. Going on 3rd month without a period.

MK85 · 07/08/2022 21:04

By the way ladies , I meant to ask..
Does clomid itself help regulate cycles ?
Gynae said the problem is when your not releasing an egg regularly it can cause irregular cycles.
So..
What I'm wondering is so I'm going to need medication to bring on a bleed,
Will I just need one month supply to get period started before clomid or would i need to take provera / Norethisterone ect every month to induce a bleed? I don't want to be stopping and starting clomid waiting for period.

My surgery / pharmacy are useless. Takes a full week, sometimes 2 weeks for surgery to sort prescription for pharmacy so if I might need to take it more than one month I want to say to gp to give me enough so I'm prepared for few months.
Every month I have to ring to get metformin and I have to sit waiting a week for my metfomin to be sent to pharmacy. Went a week without taking it last week as I ran out and it took 2 weeks for them to get the clomid prescription ready

clomid doesn’t help regulate cycles. But the clomid helps with the ovulation and then you can plan around that. I think you do need the bleed first to get rid of any build up if you don’t have regular periods so that any embryo can stick x

MK85 · 07/08/2022 23:42

@Ldougal92 thanks, I've been scouring the Internet all night and I did see something else aswell saying usually they prescribe it to cleanse the uterus before starting clomid.

My gynae seems useless, maybe it's the fact ive had 3 apps to date and each time I've seen a different consultant. I've learnt more from you ladies and searching the internet. I don't really think anyone should be left to go off and do their own research about any drug.

Do any of ladies have low progesterone?
She did say last time mine was low . I'm wondering is that natural for pcos and anything I should be concerned about and mention to gp as I've read if progesterone is low it can make it difficult for an embryo to implant aswell .
I do wish my doctors would take the time to explain everything to me properly instead of rushing me out the door . I feel so ill-informed

Jadeybabes86 · 09/08/2022 12:47

I’m not sure if clomid regulates cycles as I’m due on mine today and nothing not even a sniff of pre menstrual signs or possible pregnancy ☹️ But I have been so much more regular since taking myova, just been on the site to order more and they’re out of stock but good old Amazon to the rescue 😅

I really hope you get somewhere with the gynae and drs it’s such a faff for you like it’s not stressful enough! Let us know how you get on but they should know that you don’t want to be taking clomid sparingly that you need the bleeds to continue usage that’s what they said to me and it make sense really!

best of luck xxx
