Clomid TTC

lucymc11 · 21/07/2022 13:14

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

I’ve done a few more (they’re so cheap and easy I can’t help it) and not another line but I’m not losing hope just wasn’t FMU. It’s so bloody early as well so I need to just calm my tits 😂😂. Knowing me it’ll be another evap but hey ho.

how are you @Jadeybabes86 ? X

Jadeybabes86 · 20/02/2023 19:10

Keep doing them 😂🤞🏻😬

Well I had a scan today and they said I have cysts and two fibroids but he said doesn’t look anything to worry about in terms of size as I’m polycystic but the thing is the pains aren’t as bad now and I think had I been scanned at the time when I was in a lot of pain it might have looked different,

anyway the results are going off to dr fertility and he said on Wednesday providing there’s nothing alarming from the scan he will prescribe letrozole instead and after reading up about it I am more confident trying it as it seems more successful for PCOS sufferers

So fingers crossed these cysts bugger off and letrozole is the key to our baby success 🤞🏻

TTCX · 20/02/2023 21:46

That’s good your scan went ok and nothing concerning. I’ve heard the same about letrozole too hopefully it just agrees with you better. I have another two rounds of clomid after this and that’ll be my 6 rounds and then try something else. Hopefully will get lucky before then 🤞

Jadeybabes86 · 21/02/2023 01:14

Everything crossed for you what a long old slog this baby making is proving to be aye!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

MK85 · 21/02/2023 10:19

@TTCX the testing completely takes over and you become obsessive.
I'm doing good. I have an app with fertility clinic today and then back to my usual gynae clinic afterwards so I'm hoping someone can give me some clarity on things

TTCX · 23/02/2023 10:15

Cautiously sharing this this morning. My FRER. A very light line and very anxious because last cycle we had an early loss. Won’t believe fully until the line is darker but really hoping this is the start of our sticky bean😔🥲

Jadeybabes86 · 23/02/2023 13:35

@TTCX everything crossed this is a sticky one 🤞🏻I was going to ask if you had an update 😊

@MK85 how did your appointment go? xx

TTCX · 23/02/2023 14:21

Can you see it @Jadeybabes86 or am I imagining it? Brutal honesty is appreciate 😂

did your get your letrozole on Wednesday? Hope your apt went well @MK85 ❤️

Jadeybabes86 · 23/02/2023 14:24

@TTCX yes I can see it when I zoom in, hopefully it’ll get stronger as the days go by!

No not had it prescribed yet, Dr fertility needs to review the scan results then if he thinks it’s safe he will do 😊

TTCX · 23/02/2023 14:49

fingers crossed you get your results and the OK from the Dr and you can crack on 💃👏🤞

MK85 · 23/02/2023 15:21

@TTCX 🤞 how many dpo are you now?

@Jadeybabes86 Our appointment with the fertility clinic went fine . It was definitely a long day. We ended up waiting 2 hours to be seen as they forgot about us 😴 We have a review appointment in 3 months time to discuss the next steps. All going well we would be placed on the waiting list . I have to lose 5 lbs by next app but I'm confident that will be easy as I've already lost 8 pounds this month . At least I know my pcos isn't affecting my ability to lose weight as I know some people with it really struggle. He scanned me again and everything looks fine so I don't need to go through with the laparoscopy now as last scan gynae was concerned about one of my tubes. He thinks if there was an issue the hsg cleared it.
One thing that baffled me was he said if I'm having regular periods then it means I'm ovulating ? So clomid would be unnecessary. I know that's not true as you can have periods and not ovulate. I ovulated in december but I might not be ovulating every month.
Then I saw my local gynae ( yet again a new doctor ) and that was a disaster.
Waited an hour and half as they had no doctor and had to specifically arrange for this doctor to come. I dont know where they found him as he really struggled with the english language and didnt understand anything i was explaining to him and vice versa. He kept calling ovulating ( o-a - lotion ) 😆
he argued with me " but you don't o a lotion ) When obviously if I got pregnant in dec then I released an egg.
He seemed to think I had completed 6 months of clomid and told me I can't take anymore because its not working. It took ages of explaining before he understood I haven't taken clomid. Unbelievably he then wrote me a prescription for more clomid haha which I already have 2 boxes of clomid .I could become a clomid dealer at this stage 🤣 i cant believe they just keep flinging it out at me so easy. I could totally be someone using it irresponsibly . I just kinda went along with it because the communication was so difficult. A junior doctor had to guide him on how to fill the form. So bizarre. He did advise me take clomid even if im spotting and said I don't need to wait for full flow. I just really wanted a doctor to confirm that as all my other drs told me I need full flow. I asked gynae to organise a recent blood test to check if I'm ovulating but he's booked me in for day 21 to check although I seem to be ovulating late in my cycle . Dec was definite ovulation around day 20 and last cycle was possible ovulation on around day 33 so a day 21 wouldn't give a true accurate picture if I'm ovulating or not and I'm really concerned what could happen if you take clomid if already ovulating. I don't know why i just can't book in a week after I think I've ovulated myself.
It's so disheartening all these delays. I've been going back and forth to them for a year now

TTCX · 23/02/2023 16:12

I’m 9dpo @MK85 according to my app! Hopefully tomorrows test is darker!

oh @MK85 that sounds so so stressful. Good luck with your weight loss, sounds like you’ve done an amazing job so far. I’m so unhappy with my weight at the moment. Frustrating your aren’t able to pop in after you’ve monitored ovulation yourself. Must be really difficult with long cycles like that. Hopefully you get your BFP soon ❤️

Jadeybabes86 · 23/02/2023 16:12

@MK85 wow sounds very confusing!! If you have anovulation due to PCOS then you don’t ovulate in your cycle even if you have regular periods this doesn’t mean you’ve ovulated, a bleed following on from NOT ovulating is called a withdrawal bleed where as a bleed after ovulation is your menses it’s all down to hormone imbalance due to PCOS if you’re already ovulating and taking clomid your chances of multiples is heightened,

basically ovulation that occurs after 21 days is considered anovulatory cycle because of the quality of the egg

I also read that during a study of women with PCOS, early initiation of Clomid before withdrawal bleeding (day 1 after provera) or during the last days of the luteal phase can achieve a better ovulatory response.

Some thins to consider 😊

TTCX · 24/02/2023 18:17

So there is definitely a little bean in there 🥲🥰 full of anxiety as to whether it’ll stick. I really hope so, feel like I just couldn’t go through the same again🤞🌈 happy weekend ladies, hope you’re ok. Thanks for always responding to my anxious ramblings!

Clomid TTC
MK85 · 07/03/2023 17:37

@Jadeybabes86 Its strange that there's so much different information out there with regards to the best day to start clomid.
I've also read something a while back saying if you take clomid early to stimulate more follicles before day 5 they can end up being too immature for ovulation so the egg won't get released whereas taking it after day 5 when the dominant follicle has already been chosen helps to prepare it mature so you release a better quality egg.

Since my last gynae told me take it even if Im just spotting blood I think that's what I'll go ahead with on next cycle. Mind you that gynae also told me I should just consider skipping clomid altogether and pursue ivf in Spain or turkey because its quicker and I'm almost 40 😲 arsehole, i just turned 37 at ny , ive a few years left yet before I'd like to consider myself 40 😆

MK85 · 07/03/2023 17:57

@Jadeybabes86
What all are you taking if you dont mind me asking ?
I often think I'm going to kill myself from the concoction of supplements 😆 I'm currently taking 15 different tablets a day ( not including my metformin ) I can't find everything that I take in just 1 pill. That would leave things alot easier.
Do you think alpha infolic is better than standard myo ? I recently purchased it but have been finishing up my current myo tablets before I give it a try. I know I've read the added alpha lacto..something makes it more effective than standard myo alone. Can you taste it in the water ? I was taking the conceive plus ovulation starting the month before i got pregnant so I might go back to that as I was ovulating every month on it. I started taking another brand last month but I actually think its messed me up. I feel af is coming and I haven't ovulated this month now at all. Its my first in 4 cycles that I haven't ovulated so I'm feeling bummed as I thought things were on the up. I wouldn't feel as stressed if I knew I ovulated every month as it means every month is a chance

MK85 · 07/03/2023 17:58

@TTCX oh how exciting. I hope everything is going well for you

Jadeybabes86 · 07/03/2023 18:03

@MK85 😳 cheeky swine! We’re the same age! I turned 37 in Jan, I’m off treatment until May when my appointment is and depending on when and where my period is at that time depends how long I’ll have to wait to get going with Letrozole, I never imagined it would be this long a process!!

The thing with Spain or Turkey etc I know this will
sound crazy but I think to myself what if they mess up and give me someone else’s sperm or egg 😂

This cycle I tracked ovulation right until about day cycle day 29 then got fed up but I have a sneaky feeling I ovulated 37 as had ewcm and cramping which I thought at the time was AF coming but we’re a week and two days later and she’s not here so I guess it wasn’t that, so god only knows what is going on, im hoping I did ovulate when suspected because we did a fair bit of BD-ing around that time so 🤞🏻

how are you and how you getting on/feeling?

Jadeybabes86 · 07/03/2023 18:13

@MK85 I take extra strength vitamin C which has been a recent addition just because it’s got added b12 and I feel gives me the energy I need at the min, I take vitamin D extra strength cos that’s supposed to support egg development, I take women’s centrum just because, and I used to take just the Myova and at 1st it really did wonders with weight loss and regulation then it kind of settled down so on research I discovered the inofolic alpha and read the reviews so decided to give that a go and again lost weight and regulated me but then it plateaued, so what I do now is take them both but half the dose of each so I’m having the right amount of inositol but adding in the folic acid and alpha-lactalbumin with the inofolic alpha supplement, I tip the sachet in my mouth and swill it round with water and swallow it cos I find that quicker in the mornings 😂

the OH is on impryl conception now as well 😂

after discovering cysts and fibroids on my recent scan I read about the benefits of Apple cider vinegar so the gummies are them, and so far it’s also having a weight loss effect and I feel good so 👍🏼 for now 😂

my brother said to me the other day, save your money on all these products and just go straight to IVF and sometimes I think he could have a point

MK85 · 15/03/2023 14:51

@Jadeybabes86 Haha 😄
Well I probably wouldn't opt to go abroad as I'd be more worried about if something went wrong. Ive never heard an nhs doctor encouraging patients to pursue treatment outside of UK before . I don't know how it couldn't be cheaper anyway considering you have to attend several different appointments over the month before the transfer so surely the cost of flights, accommodation, travel insurance ect must add up.

I'm definitely spending at least £100 a month on supplements but I suppose over a year that's still nowhere near the cost of ivf. We've discussed that we will give it a few more months and do the medicated cycles then discuss other options. Fertility clinic advised us not to bother because of his results but at the end of the day his swimmers did manage to fertilise an egg few months back and its hard to sit there wasting time relying on them . It's already been 4 years now since we started the process of trying to get help. Nhs ivf would be another year waiting. I can't believe it takes that long to access treatment .
If I was you id probably try a few months on the letrozole. You've come this far , and it is supposed to be more effective. I'd try a few months then see where you want to go after that. The letrozole might be all you need, you never know. Ivf is going to be a hell of a lot more gruelling on the body that clomid was on you. All the medication, injections plus you have to be completely knocked out to sleep.

I was taking apple cider for a while for the insulin resistance benefit, not sure if it helped or not . When I take so many things it's hard to know what's having a positive effect and what's not. It didn't help me with weight loss at all. I found the only thing that helped me was fasting. I dropped 8lbs in 2 weeks. Mind you , I've kinda let it go and overindulgence for his bday with the cake 😆 ended up gaining 5lbs back haha so I need to get serious again as I have to drop 10lbs by my next appointment at fertility clinc I'm 2 or 3 months.

Currently cycle day 31 and haven't ovulated so far anyway :( 😞 so annoying to go from ovulating for few months now back to not ovulating again

lucymc11 · 19/03/2023 10:07

Hi ladies, sorry I've been AWOL - my prescribed three rounds of clomid weren't successful so now we're waiting for a NHS referral to a fertility clinic as we can't really afford to carry on with private treatment, especially if we need IVF.

Thinking of you all on what is a really difficult day. ❤️

MK85 · 19/03/2023 11:46

@lucymc11 good to hear from you again. Sorry the rounds weren't successful. How long is the waiting list in your area? We waited 6 months for our initial consultation at fertility clinic then second review appointment which is when they discuss the plan / funding they said would be 3 months, so another 2 to go. First appointment was mainly being asked alot of questions and filing out forms . I had a blood test and weight check. Here were only entitled to one round, although in some areas nhs will cover 3 rounds of treatment
