Clomid TTC

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

Thanks Lucy, I'm going to look into getting the provera / Norethisterone.
I don't know why this wasn't mentioned to me since consultant knew my periods were extremely erratic

@lucymc11 yup literally! I think I'll test on 4 August🫣🤔 if I last that long lol what about you? Xx

A clomid thread is exactly what I need. I was prescribed clomid 2 months ago however I can't take it as I have seriously irregular cycles. 1 to 2 periods a year. Gynae also gave me different directions , one told me take days 1 to 5 while another gynae sent a instruction leaflet which I'm supposed to take days 3 for 5 days. I know nothing about this medication since nothing was explained properly so I'd definitely appreciate the support of this thread.
I don't know why my gynae never prescribed me that medication to bring on a bleed knowing how irregular I am.
By the way I'm 36 , ttc since our early 20s

I take clomid days 1-5 and ovulate on day 14 x

Lex I probably won't bother using ovulation tests during taking clomid since the tests have been so useless in the past. I have a constant high LH , which I'm told is associated with pcos. I always have 2 lines showing no matter what time of the month I test.

MK85 · 25/07/2022 23:14

Did all of you all a hycosy before clomid was prescribed then ? I'm on nhs and they prescribed me clomid without any prior tests to check my tubes

I'm private and I didn't get a hycosy either🤷🏼‍♀️

I've got pcos too but I do use OPKs when on clomid

I'm private and haven't had a hycosy scan either.

I'm only having an ultrasound for cycle 1 and after that, I won't be monitored so my doctor has asked me to take ovulation strips to help confirm if ovulation occurs.

Any chill I have about TTC (not much) goes out the window when I start taking ovulation tests - I get obsessed and it takes over. But hopefully it will all be worth it in the end! 🥲

@Harper02 which app do you use to track your OPKs?

Longbin · 26/07/2022 09:23

@MK85 the NHS would prescribe to me without having a laparoscopcy to check my entire insides, then they still didn't prescribe to me after as I was unexplained so it 'wouldn't work' and there was no point trying

Harper02 · 26/07/2022 15:29

@lucymc11 I use premom, it's amazing

Hoping43 · 26/07/2022 20:10

@Longbin did you go private for the drugs as you were unexplained? That’s what I’ve done but I’ve been given letrozole and I’m worried it’s not as good as clomid.

I had my follicle tracking scans day 9, 14, 18 and 21 and they couldn’t see a dominant follicle but the consultant said he thinks I have ovulated and they’ve missed it because my lining has thickened as they would expect in an ovulatory cycle. I’m not convinced and feeling sad!! Worried I’m going to be stuck on the wrong dose now x

Pommes · 26/07/2022 20:13

I fell pregnant a month after concluding 7 cycles with Clomid... it stays in your system for a little while you stop taking it.

Wishing you all good luck!

Longbin · 26/07/2022 20:35

@Hoping43, will I'll you have another scan next month to see if you ovulated earlier? No I went privately to 'dr fertility' and he wouldn't give it either, my IVF clinic said I had to go to the sister clinic as they don't do ovulation stimulation, so I bought it from a pharmacy in Greece.

Hoping43 · 26/07/2022 20:39

@Longbin ah I see. Where are you based? Did you get any scans?

no they said I don’t need to have anymore scans, just carry on. I’m deffo going to do OPKs next month as I didn’t this month as I thought the scans would supersede them but clearly that all went wrong and now I feel I don’t have a clue. I’ve had really mixed symptoms this month. No idea if I’ve ovulated or not but they seem to think I have. I’m speaking to the consultant later in the week and I’m going to ask for more scans next month. No idea when to expect my period, I’m on cycle day 22 and still getting patches of EWCM here and there. Just completely confused x

Longbin · 26/07/2022 21:05

@Hoping43 I'm based in the U.K. I did have a scan for my IVF baseline scan and asked them to check if they could see any follicles.

That sounds so stressful for you. I found using OPKs did help because I felt symptoms at various times too and I wouldn't have known when I ovulated otherwise

Hoping43 · 26/07/2022 21:11

@Longbin ah so have you had IVF previously and then moved onto clomid?

my scans were showing 25 follicles and in Jan I had one and only had 13 so everything seems totally different this month but they haven’t seen a dominant follicles and I don’t think I’ve ovulated but they think I have so we’ll see when my period arrives I guess whether it lines up with what they’re thinking! X

Longbin · 26/07/2022 21:22

@Hoping43 it's so hard to know what to believe about different theories! Yeah I had a fresh transfer and a frozen one, so I was doing this before starting another stimulation round in August as we had no embryos left

Hoping43 · 26/07/2022 21:24

@Longbin ah I see! Were you recommended clomid or did you just go for it yourself? I was recommended letrozole but I know different people who have been recommended different things so it’s really hard to know what’s best!!.

Longbin · 26/07/2022 22:34

@Hoping43 no I was told not to take it as it wouldn't work and I should go straight for IVF again, as I had been TTC without any luck with so long

Jewell92 · 26/07/2022 23:29

Hey! Was wondering if it's okay if I join, I'm on my 4th cycle with clomid.

have a son who we conceived without even trying.. however we've now been TTC for 2.5 years. Very frustrating and lonely at times, my friends don't really get it!

Currently cycle day 10. I haven't been doing any OPKs as I see a lot of people say not to when taking clomid?

I haven't had any scans, we paid private as NHS wait time was crazy plus I was told I wouldn't be a priority as I already have a child which I understand, I am so lucky to have him.

Had a consultation, blood tests, sample test all came back normal so unsure what the issue is!

Doc prescribed 3 months on 50 and 3 months on 100, if no joy then go back to him and he will do scans etc.

Has anyone experienced their periods being way longer? I'm still bleeding sometimes day 9/10 of cycle, used to have 4 day periods max.. doc said to just keep going with the clomid and didn't seem concerned about it so maybe it's normal?

Really hoping we all get our two lines soon! X

MK85 · 27/07/2022 04:48

@lucymc11 premom is what I used aswell in the past aswell. You take photos of the tests and the app stores them. It gives you an estimated reading aswell. You can buy the strips of amazon

MK85 · 27/07/2022 04:56

@Hoping43 all the studies seem to point to letrozole being more effective compared to clomid. It's apparently more successful at inducing ovulation and pregnancy rates are higher.

Hoping43 · 27/07/2022 07:10

@mk85 thanks. I think you’re right but not sure when you ovulate naturally because I think clomid is the one that produces multiple eggs and letrozole mostly only produces one. Anyway, I didn’t even have one on my scans but they’re still saying I have ovulated 😭😭🤯🤯

Harper02 · 27/07/2022 07:56

@Jewell92 I wouldn't be happy if I wasn't getting scans! Clomid has a lifetime limit so you could essentially be wasting that if you're not responding😫 how are you tracking ovulation at the moment? I get scans and also use OPKs🥰
