Clomid TTC

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

Hey @MK85 all good with me thanks! Currently 10 days into my second cycle and feeling ok! I was spotting last month for about a week and then my period actually started on Christmas day at about 7pm so I didnt count day 1 until the next day??

MK85 · 04/01/2023 13:59

I could use your advice girls. I'm still bleeding , it's picked up a little more today but before I start clomid each month I planned on doing a test. ... anyway I wasn't expecting a miracle as I didn't take clomid last month but just after seeing that darker than control line last month on the opk , I've since questioned did I really ovulate for the first time ever naturally. I decided to do a test as if flow keeps up was going to take clomid tomorrow and because of the possible positive ovulation I did a first response test. Now it's came back like this . I'm so confused. I got a faint line , so I went and did another first response test and again another faint line .. or am I imagining something to be there that isn't? What does this faint line mean, if anything ? Does it need to be two strong lines to be positive? Is a faint line just counted as a negative? I also did a cheap boots test which was negative. I've never done a pregnancy test before so I don't know how to read them 🤔 It says to dip them in for 5 seconds , but after 5 seconds nothing happened so I had to dip them in for another few seconds before the liquid entered the window so could they both be faulty ?
I'm not sure what to do now because of the fact I'm bleeding right now and after seeing this on the test if I should continue with clomid or leave it incase the bleeding is something else.

Hi ladies - I was wondering if I could join this thread (though looks like it’s filling up and a new one may be needed in 2023!)

I started trying to conceive early last year and experienced an ectopic pregnancy in June. Since then nothing in the way of a positive! I saw a consultation late last year and have been prescribed clomid which I’ll be starting when my period arrives and my partners sperm analysis comes back!

Nice to find people in the same boat! Has anyway else been prescribed clomid despite ovulating naturally? I believe I do ovulate monthly but admittedly my cycle is a bit irregular and I have PCO (but no hormonal issues!)

Superstorefan123 · 04/01/2023 16:54

@MK85 I didn’t want to comment after your pic and read+Run but that looks like a blazing positive to me? I have heard of people bleeding and having a continuing pregnancy so I really wouldn’t know what to advice re starting clomid again! Could you book in a blood test ASAP to confirm?

lucymc11 · 04/01/2023 17:07

Hi ladies, hope you all have a lovely Christmas and NY. Cycle 3 of clomid didn't work for me sadly. I was only prescribed 3 cycles worth of clomid so will need to go back to my gynae soon to discuss next steps.

@Superstorefan123 Sorry to hear about your ectopic but hopefully you'll have success on clomid. Bet you can't wait for AF to come for once!

@MK85 they're both really strong positives. How heavy is your bleeding? Agree with @Superstorefan123 - contact your GP ASAP and ask for a blood test. Definitely don't take the clomid.

What DPO are you? The Boots test might not have been an early detection like the FRER tests in the pics are.

@lucymc11 im sorry to hear about cycle 3 :( hoping you get a further subscription or some clear next steps

Yes, looking forward to getting started! Annoyingly I’m right at the start of this month (AF came Boxing Day and it all suddenly felt like a rush to start so soon over Christmas) so will try naturally this month (struggling to motivate myself to be honest given the track record) and then start clomid hopefully by the end of the month!

Did anyone else get prescribed clomid despite ovulating naturally? See such mixed reviews of it here but my doctor seemed very Adamant it couldn’t hurt to try!

SusieNI · 04/01/2023 17:42

@MK85 omg that definitely looks like two strong positives which is amazing!! I would def get checked out by the GP just on the bleeding piece as I know you wont be content until u check it out! Please god for u its just spotting ❤️❤️❤️

Anonbaby · 04/01/2023 17:50

@Superstorefan123 hi. I did and the first dose didn’t work, I ended up having a 50 day cycle so it was increased and then I ovulated. I took 2 months and then since found out there are potentially sperm issues (although only one problem test, others have been fine and we do have children) so tbh I kind of gave up on it all. I still have some left, wondering whether to resume or not! One consultant told me it would do nothing for me as I already ovulate and another said it could help. My cycles are 28-35 days in length x

Jadeybabes86 · 04/01/2023 18:01

@MK85 you are pregnant!!!!!
congratulations you are deffo pregnant!! Wow so happy for you xxx

Superstorefan123 · 04/01/2023 18:31

@Anonbaby super interesting, thank you. I’ve heard really mixed things about clomid when you already ovulate so I might have a chat with my consultant!

MK85 · 05/01/2023 13:40

The bleeding isn't heavy although its still enough to warrant my concern. It seems mainly light pink but there's quite alot of it when I wipe which has now been 2 days of bleeding. I'm still cramping and have an awful headache today. I'm told there's nothing I can do but wait a week or two and have bloods. I've taken 5 tests. Frer, boots and this morning a clearblue. All faint positive. It truly does become an obsession. Hcg apparently rises every 48 hrs so I'll try taking another test in 48hrs . I fear the worst has happened but I'm hoping for a miracle and that everythings ok. I'm so grateful just to be pregnant at this moment in time , even it this one is not meant to be , just the fact I got pregnant at all after all these years is a miracle in itself but I'm also terrified I'll never get pregnant again :(
I might try and get directly in contact with gp as consultant had said my progesterone was low so I'm wondering if that's something I should be concerned about

lucymc11 · 05/01/2023 13:46

Oh @MK85 I'm keeping everything crossed, really hope this is your time!

Can't imagine how awful it must be having to wait 48 hours for another test. If you've had positive tests today then hopefully that is a good sign. 🤞🏼❤️

Hi ladies, hope you all had a good Christmas and new year!

@MK85 definitely positives, it’s an awful wait and completely understand your worry. Hope you’re ok, you are pregnant ❤️

i am waiting for a period/positive (though after our loss last month we didn’t really try much so I’d be shocked if we got a positive) and if neither I’m starting Provera and another round of Chlomid. Here we goooo 🤞

SusieNI · 05/01/2023 17:02

@MK85 I am sending u all the luck and positivity in the world!❤️ You are definitely pregnant lets hope the bleeding is just random spotting! I have everything crossed for u,lets gope in 2 days time the lines will be even darker😍

MK85 · 06/01/2023 18:02

I do question now if my peak ovulation date was accurate or if it was actually picking up hcg with the opk. I had a hunch the previous month i ovulated aswell but it was alot earlier in my cycle. It was right after my dye test but we didnt monitor or dtd at that time so unsure if or when i would have ovulated. I started testing with opks this month only on 20th ( my period was 1st dec) and peaked that same day. I continued to monitor them but ive noticed that my lh levels never dropped down . My readings were continuously high even before i took a pregnancy test.. or 6 😆 I did read that if conception has occured then opks can give a false positive when they are actually picking up hcg. Not sure how much truth is to that but that definitely seems to be the case with me and I did read today alot of women keep track with opks after ovulation because it can be an indicator they conceived. I just thought I'd pass on that because I definitely think the opk had picked it up before I had confirmation on a preg test. My opks were super high even on new years but I took a pregnancy test then and was negative and 3 days later all positive. Might not work for everyone and i dont think its 100% accurate but it seems to be a known thing.

TTCX2 · 10/01/2023 22:09

Hey ladies, how are you all doing? I’ve got another week to wait before I can take Provera + start cycle 4 of Chlomid. Have this horrible pressure that I want to be pregnant and have a baby by the end of the year which doesn’t give me very long 🫣. Think I’m just gutted that it could have been but wasn’t last month.

@MK85 how are you doing? X

MK85 · 11/01/2023 00:32

@TTCX2 it sadly hasn't worked out for me 😞 I've a blood test next tuesday but my hcg levels have dropped dramatically and I'm no longer testing positive. I'm assuming either it implanted but stopped developing or just didn't implant properly. Age and crappy pcos egg quality is probably a factor .
I've been told by the nurse to mark the bleeding as the start of a new cycle and treat it just like any other period.
I'm still bleeding ,quite heavily now and it's lasting longer than any usual period. I'm now on day 9 of bleeding .
I'm completely bummed and left wondering will it ever happen again. If I was a few years younger I probably would be more relaxed. Last month was the first time that ive had a back to back period in years and years, and the first time I've ever had a positive opk so I really wasn't expecting that to happen In my first regular month especially considering they told us our chances of conceiving naturally would be low after oh's results so the fact his sperm reached the egg last month is really encouraging to know and gives me a reason to keep believing and not give up on trying naturally. I'm glad I tested ,I probably wouldn't have known if I didn't. We dtd the night I saw the positive opk and since that night I had a strange feeling it happened. I actually tested on new years but it was negative, I don't know why but I still felt it worked ,i had a strange sensation surrounding me. I know that sounds absolutely mental 😆 when I started bleeding I did the tests to be sure before starting clomid as I just somehow knew it and that's when I got the positives. Really hoping my regular cycles stick. I wanted to get advice from gynae about taking clomid considering what's happened and the fact I've now clearly ovulated naturally this time.
Would they advise you still take it even if your ovulating? Or would that cause hyper stimulation

TTCX2 · 11/01/2023 10:10

Oh @MK85 i’m so sorry to hear that. A loss is so difficult but I’m glad you’re feeling hopeful and amazing that you ovulated on your own. Here to talk about anything if you need, it’s a rollercoaster of emotions and I’m still trying to process our loss- just desperate to see those two lines again! Sending love xxx

lucymc11 · 11/01/2023 10:15

Oh @MK85 I'm so sorry to hear - sending you lots of love. ❤️

Like you said, it happened once so it can definitely happen again. I'm sure your regular periods will stick. 🤞🏼

Thanks girls. There's no point beating myself up over it as that won't change anything. I think this months cycle will be completely messed up and probably unlikely I'll ovulate. I think I'll have a late cycle length too as its now day 10 and still bleeding horrendously.

Do any of you chart BBT?
I used to years ago but stopped as never noticed a change. I was thinking of buying one again. Is it better to get one of the thermometers with 2 decimal points for accuracy ?

Superstorefan123 · 11/01/2023 14:32

@MK85 I’m so sorry for your loss :( I think falling after such a long time and losing a pregnancy is unbelievably painful.

I do use BBT as I do ovulate - use a 2 decimal point thermometer. My biggest tip is to pre warm your thermometer for a few minutes in your mouth before taking a reading, else the room temp will massively effect it!

Jadeybabes86 · 11/01/2023 15:25

@MK85 @TTCX2 i know it’s terribly painful for you both but take the positives from it and push on but be kind to yourselves take your time to recover from it before putting yourself back through the rollercoaster of clomid again, even without MC it’s tough on the best of us ☹️

graceinc22 · 11/01/2023 16:14

Hi everyone 👋 got officially diagnosed with PCOS today and referred to the fertility clinic. Been trying 7.5 months now. Feel quite emotional but hopeful that I’ll be given something that helps me along x

TTCX2 · 11/01/2023 17:13

Thanks @Jadeybabes86 how are you? I just hate not knowing what stage my body is at- am I going to ovulate, do I feel a period coming, is anything happening at all?! 🫣

welcome @graceinc22 welcome to the chat and sorry about your struggles. Feel free to vent anytime ❤️

SusieNI · 11/01/2023 17:34

@MK85 oh I am just so sorry 😞 you are such a trooper❤️

@graceinc22 welcome to the chat :)

I am currently ovulating (I think 🤔 very conflicting headmelting OPKs, sob!) So fingers crossed
