Clomid TTC

Hi all,

I wondered if anyone who is currently TTC with Clomid fancied joining a TTC thread? I've had a look and can't see a recent one.

My husband and I have been trying for approx 2 years. I have PCOS and also had a congenital uterine defect (complete septum) which was operated on and fixed in November 2021.

We paid for a private appointment with a gynaecologist yesterday who prescribed 6 months of Clomid. I'm starting off cycle 1 with 50mg and will have a transvaginal ultrasound around CD 10-14.

My period is due in about 3 weeks but ofc with PCOS this is approximate and it might be early/late. My consultant also prescribed norithesterone to bring on a period if it's delayed. I'm tempted to start it soon so I can get cracking with Clomid - patience isn't my strong point!

Would be great to hear from anyone else in a similar position and hopefully share our BFPs in the coming months. TTC can be a lonely time and I've decided to not tell my family/friends about Clomid as it upsets me too much when I have to tell them I'm still not pregnant.

I dont know much about it @Jadeybabes86 but It seems to greatly depend on the clinc. They vary slightly between prices.
Most clinics have a price guide on their website , but then you have to add on the extras like consultations, drugs inc anesthetic, private prescriptions and scans ect . Thats where it all adds up. Those arent included in that price unless you get a full package that covers some of that. There are funding programmes out there. They have different tiers dependant on age. For example unlimited cycles for 2 years and refund if no live birth at the end. You have to pay upfont tho. Obviously the older you get the lower number of cycles are offered and a lower refund rate.
Neither of us have kids so we're entitled to just one round on nhs. I think its totally unfair for nhs to exclude a couple when one dosent have a biological child .
It's just really shit isn't it.
It's so much money.

@TTCX2 I got a bleed 3 days after stopping provera but ive only had experience of using it once and my period had been absent for 4 or 5 months when I took provera

Jadeybabes86 · 27/01/2023 19:44

@MK85 thank you for that, im on cycle 4 now and have everything crossed as always! Hope you’re doing ok xx

MK85 · 28/01/2023 02:49

@Jadeybabes86
Unbelievablely I'm currently feeling like af is on its way. It'll be a miracle if it is as that would be 4 regular cycles in a row.
I haven't ovulated all cycle unless I've ovulated really early this month. I felt like I might have around day 11 as i had intense ovary pain and fluid which is exactly what i had last month when i ovulated but I was also still bleeding until day 14 so didnt test or dtd during that time.
Was kinda hoping it wouldnt come so i could take provera next cycle since i had such a normal period flow with it. When it comes naturally alot of the time it's messed up and not proper flow , scanty and stops here and there so it's preventing me from using clomid.
My next app is late feb so I can't get speaking to my consultant about this until then

Jadeybabes86 · 28/01/2023 12:36

@MK85 i know what you mean about Provera it seems to just make things go more smoothly than letting our messed up bodies take charge!! I have an apt in Feb also, was so desperate not to have to need it and be pregnant 🤞🏻 I’m on cycle 4 finished tablets last night and I’ve purchased some pre-seed, pulling out all the stops now to increase my chances and just make the absolute most of each cycle!

You never know it could be AF or……….. you just never know! Keep us updated hoping for the best outcome for you 😊

MissH82 · 28/01/2023 13:57

Hey, I was just having a read through @MK85, might be worth a call to your consultant to see if you could get some advice, I had two clomid babies, one of which I took the clomid without even having a period (on their advice), I’d gone through one cycle, no ovulation by day 28, I think they told me to wait 7 days, take a test just in case and if negative to start clomid again without a bleed. Only mention because you said your periods are light/uneven, but if you are having any bleed and negative test, I’d say it’s a possibility you can take it (with advice from your consultant but surely they could just say yes or no over the phone?) xx

Jadeybabes86 · 28/01/2023 17:11

@MK85 @MissH82 ive heard of this method also, but obviously only do it on the advice of your gynea xx

SusieNI · 28/01/2023 21:15

Hey @MK85 my doctor said to give it to day 35, take a test and then take provera again!

Situation with me is cycle 2 of Clomid in 100mg didnt work, AF arrived today. Have had 5-7 days worth of spotting this month and last the days before my period - my Reflexologist and Accupuncturist said it was old blood leaving my womb which is a good thing but I am worried its Progesterone related...meh, going to pop my clinic a message and see what they say!

Interestingly, my Reflexologist said as I have a tilted uterus, the position we do it in is really important! No one has ever told me this before!! Has anyone else heard this? So will be taking her advice everytime next month!

SusieNI · 28/01/2023 21:15

Sorry not sure why theres a big gap above lol

Superstorefan123 · 29/01/2023 15:05

Just thought I’d pop on a message in case helpful for anyone…. Just picked up my (private) prescription for 30 clomid tablets at boots. Was nervously expecting a huge bill - £14.50!!

Total consultation + meds cost for me has been £114.50. Worth it for me personally to avoid a very long NHS wait in my area.

Crossing my fingers for February

How did you get the prescription? Is it monitored? I'm in month 11 of clomid but considering buying letrozole online.

Superstorefan123 · 30/01/2023 21:07

@Harper02 i was prescribed it by a consultant :) at a private hospital. She isn’t offering any monitoring - basically gave me the prescription and told me to come back in 3 months if I wasn’t pregnant!

MK85 · 04/02/2023 16:42

Thanks girls, I'm definitely going to bring it up to my consultant this month . I have an appointment on 20th with fertility clinic then 21st with my regular gynae.

I have another question.. has anyone produced a 'high' but not had ewcm ? I'm on cycle day 33 , I've had terrible pains all week like my period has been coming but then few days ago I also had ovary pain ( second time this month, I had it during my 14 day bleed after my loss ) today when I did my opk I got a high rating of 1.23 but my cm is nowhere near what they class as fertile cm. Last month when I had my peak 2.71 on day 20 I also had really stretchy cm. This month is white and not stretchy at all. Which would you rely on more ? I had a dip in bbt from 36. down to 35.83 on cycle day 29. . Kinda confused what to make of this all.

How many days before ovulation would bbt drop? Have any of you found cm not to be reliable? Or more reliable than opks? Also from your experience do you get a high before peak or straight from low to peak?

Jadeybabes86 · 06/02/2023 13:06

@MK85 strange one, I don’t really produce much CM so I’ve never really gone by that I’ve just done the OPK’s, I’d say go by them if I was you!

how do your OPK’s tend to look, do they gradually get darker nearer the time of high and peak? This month mine haven’t darkened and technically today should be my peak, have you peaked/ovulated at different cycle days due to clomid? xx

MK85 · 06/02/2023 17:26

@Jadeybabes86
I don't really know as I only started using opks again last month,
the first day I took the opk in dec was around day 20 or 21 and it was a peak, really strong at 2.71 and stretchy cm. Second day was still a high then really low on third day so I'm not really sure what leading upto it looked like . Definitely ovulated that cycle.

This cycle i started opk on day 13. my readings were low all the way up until cycle day 33 then I got a high of 1.26 around 4pm then i checked it few times that day and later that night and it had already dropped down to 0.92. So on its way down. None of that stretchy cm this time. Readings are back to low again today. Day 33 seems kinda late .

Not sure if that was my peak ,if I missed it or if I just had a random surge and perhaps I didn't ovulate at all . 🤷‍♀️
my bbt dip dosent seem reliable either. It dipped on both day 29 and 31.
Gosh it's so complicated to understand 😔
Do you usually find lh surge and ratio in each cycle varies?

Jadeybabes86 · 06/02/2023 17:36

I’m cycle day 17 been doing 3 x OPK’s a day and the 10pm ones seem the strongest!

I do one 1st thing, then one in the afternoon and then one before bed-ish

I’ve only ever caught one peak and that was my 2nd cycle on clomid I was using the CB digital and i only ever did 1st wee of the morning and it tracked it just fine telling me my high days then my peak so either the cheapies aren’t great at reading the levels or it’s just not happening this cycle (again) sob sob ☹️

it’s awful all this wondering and questioning and being left to do our own research isn’t it!
I have an apt next wed where I can ask questions and my main one will be can I try letrozole xx

MK85 · 06/02/2023 17:41

This is my whole opk chart for this month..
Do you think this looks like a actual positive or a random surge.
I don't feel that confident in reading this months results at all

Jadeybabes86 · 06/02/2023 18:40

What app are you using cos I find the app can be strange I’m not 100% confident it sees what we see but if deffo say cycle days 32-34 are looking promising I’d deffo go by that xx

MK85 · 06/02/2023 19:00

@Jadeybabes86 I'm using the pre mom app

Im curious about the pdg tests. From what I read you take a baseline test first day after your period , then test a week after ovulation . It measures progesterone to confirm ovulation or not. I wonder how well they would work

Jadeybabes86 · 06/02/2023 19:11

@MK85 never heard of them I’d give them a go…. Tried just about everything else 😂

Jadeybabes86 · 06/02/2023 20:14

@MK85 look at this for a weeks worth of tests then 😂 messed up or what?!? 🤯

TTCX · 07/02/2023 15:08

I use the Premom app as well @MK85. never know if I should trust it fully?

Anyone got any inspiration/ motivation for me?! I’m only on cycle 4 using clomid (though started last July and have had some stopping and starting in between cycles). In our TTC window now and I just can’t be bothered. My poor husband is stressed and a lot on his plate and just struggling with the pressure of TTC as well and I just don’t know how bloody long I can do this for 🫣 I know I desperately want another baby so I know I’ll get over this wee moan but anyone else feel like that sometimes?!

MK85 · 07/02/2023 16:56

@TTCX definitely! After trying for so many years, we actually gave up and stopped trying so hard and thinking about making babies for a few years. We needed that break but then it hit me that I'm getting older and can't afford to keep wasting the time. Now that weve been back at it this past year , I'm already bloody exhausted again. I don't know if I've ovulated this month or not but we did the baby dance once over my supposed peak and that was it. Really couldnt be assed. The past few nights all I've wanted to do when I get into bed is sleep 🥱

SusieNI · 07/02/2023 21:08

I hear u ladies 😭 @TTCX @MK85 I'm cycle 4 but only cycle 3 at the right dosage level and am just mentally and physically exhausted :( just soul destroying. I try super hard to stay positive and have the right attitude but I'm just beyond right now.

On another note...does anyone have a tilted uterus?? Random one lol. All my doctors told me not to worry about it was normal etc but at Reflexology last week, my therapist told me position is auoer important with a tilted uterus or else everything just 'spills out' 😷😷🙈🙈 has anyone else heard this?? My mind was blown. Lol apparently doggie style needs to be our new norm 😂🙈

Jadeybabes86 · 08/02/2023 08:21

@SusieNI my friend has a tilted uterus and never had issues falling pregnant quite the opposite really, she’s super fertile only issue having a tilted uterus comes in labour xx
