Hi NJ! Yes, at least one bottle of wine called for I think, esp if dreaded Tesco trip looms...
Can't take credit for the thread title I'm afraid (wish I could!!). Loving it TEUCH!!

Playingthewaitinggame · 31/01/2008 17:30

Hi Natalie, thought you must be having a busy day and people say life as a SAHM is easy!

Anyhow just popped on to check it out before I went home. I am not staying at work till 6.45 again today.

Don't normally log on at home, so it will probably be tomorrow till I chat again. Speak to you all soon xxx.

Cosmogirl · 31/01/2008 19:36

Thanks NJ - I will definitely still be lurking even if I don't post. As some other MNers have said, once you get bitten by the broody bug it doesn't go away until you have a baby. That seems to be ringing true for me at the moment!
When I start the job I'm going to try and get the employee handbook and research the maternity policy, so if I manage to find out, I will pop on and let you know what the score is on that front. That info will allow me to plan a little better I think. Anyway, have good evenings all. Friday tomorrow!!

Cosmogirl · 31/01/2008 19:38

And February! Pinch punch and all that....another month closer to our deadlines!

Diege · 01/02/2008 07:52

Morning . Happy Feb! I feel like I've been up for hours, with dd3's waking time having gradually been creeping earlier (now 5am ). Urghh, horrid time of the 'day'! Will try and cut out her mid-day nap I think, though from past experience doesn't work that well .
Got a viewer for the house today, so trying to get some semblance of order Losing battle (make beds, dd3 gets in...repeat...).
Hopefully will get an offer soon, as this house is far too small for 5 of us, let alone 6!
Right, off to try and bribe them into their clothes!

NatalieJane · 01/02/2008 08:38

Morning all

So sorry, all praise to Teuch for thread title

BB, how did it go last night?

Playing, normally SAHM is easy, I find anyway!! Just yesterday didn't ever seem to end. And it was my BIL birthday yesterday, we are really close (DS2 is named after him) and I didn't get chance to ring till gone 10 last night, so I didn't ring because it was too late, now feeling very guilty.

Cosmo, I know what you mean by the broody bug! When I was in the hairdressers yesterday the woman before me was hugely pregnant, she was due Tuesday just gone, I so wanted to be her!! LOL I think she thought I was a bit of a weirdo (probably rightly as well!!!) but I couldn't stop looking at her bump You just make sure you're not a stranger for too long missus!

Diege, 5AM?????????? OMG, I couldn't do it!! LOL I would rather be awake till 5 than get up at 5! Good luck with the viewing, I will keep my fingers crossed for you

Well, it is finally FEBRUARY!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHOOOOOOOOOO farking HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I have never been so glad to see the back of a month before. Only 3 months left till May

DS1 is staying home today, he has struggled all week with this bloody cold/bug thing, but he just looks so poorly today, his eyes are all puffy, and he has a bit of a high temp. So I have let him stay home. And I really must get on with the housework today, so I won't be about as much again, stop cheering at the back!!!

Oh, did anyone see GMTV yesterday? I didn't but sister saw it, she said they had an article on about folic acid, apparently they are now recommending for it to be taken for a whole year before conception, something to do with preventing pre-term babies, didn't know if any of you would be interested?

Right I am a gonna, think my first job is to get the 5-6 loads of washing that has piled up on the dining room table folded and put away!! See you all in a bit xxx

BeMyLilBaby · 01/02/2008 09:10

Hello All

Cosmo i think ill be joining you..

Ive applied for four jobs this morning, the plan is to get a new job and get settled the TTC as soon as legally poss lol so any info on that greatly recieved, it was actually quite touching because DP was dissappointed too..oh well, better to happy eh?

I think i'l still post, especially once i get a new job!

NJ housework is sooo overated...just pretend its a fashion statement or feminist statement lol

Diege - OMG!!! far too early
Teuch - im crossing my fingers for you
Playing your as bad as me he he i am sposed to be working

cu all at lunchtime xx

Cosmogirl · 01/02/2008 10:08

Hi! Gosh, I'm not doing very well at staying away am I?! Working my notice makes me all rebellious.. That is very interesting about the folic acid NJ - I might do some research on that tonight (geek that I am...)I have 3 months worth in my dressing table so could get popping straight off the pill I suppose.

BB - It will be nice to have some company at the bottom end of the list if you do decide to join me! Good luck with the applications. I think I've mentioned this before but I am quite a believer in fate...everything happens for a reason.

Only 13 or so days left of taking the pill for me!! I am getting quite scared but excited too - would be nice to lose a few pounds. DH is doing food shopping tonight and I reminded him this morning to get condoms - he looked less than thrilled! Hey ho.....I'm sure he'll cope.

Teuch · 01/02/2008 10:26

CG - start taking your folic acid now!! The longer you take it, the better reserves you have in your system!

I'll call back and respnod properly later!

Cosmogirl · 01/02/2008 10:28

Thanks Teuch, I think I will then.
Just seems a long time to take it, but if the experts say so then who am I to argue?!
Makes me feel like I am doing something towards ttc as well, so that is good.

OK, so in between pandering to DS1's every need, and trying to keep DS2 happy, I have folded and put away all the washing, put a load in the machine, tidied bedrooms (except DS1's, I think I need protective clothing to go in there!) wiped around the bathroom, changed all the beds, I just need to hoover and polish up there, then start down stairs!

But not before I have a few mins on here

I found a huge complete spider's web in the door frame up there, no spider in sight, can't bring myself to break the web in case it's owner is feeling hungry! So I have a job for DH when he get's home tonight

Diege · 01/02/2008 11:34

Have taken my folic acid now - had been slacking off this week, thinking a few missed days wouldn't matter (I'm not sure they do, but it's not a real hardship to pop one a day.) I'm sticking to just folic acid though - cheaper than the pregnacare type variety!
Wow, good going NJ , esp bed-changing, a biggy in my book! BEMY - re: maternity leave in new job, as long as you're not pregnant before you start the job, you're pretty much covered re: maternity benefits. If your new company offers an enhanced package though, there might be a minimum service requirement. All worth checking out
COSMO, I was exactly the same when I was working my notice - it's a strange place to be in, not really feeling part of the organisation any more - I found colleagues very jealous too about getting 'parole' as they called it!
Well, people here to look round house at 12.30. Have done upstairs, and trying to get the downstairs presentable (impossible with a 2 year old!!). Disaster struck an hour ago. Trying to shove some bags of dh's in the airing cupboiard (as you do) and my elbow knocked a full cup of coffee off the post of the stairs, all over cream walls and stair carpet Arghhh!!! Have run out of carpet shampoo too, so in a panic sprayed that Vanish pre-wash stuff and scrubbed away! Not looking great actually, so think I will have to come clean with them and fess up (and all this with dd3 delightedly informing me of 'a poo, a poo!!' in her nappy! Why do I call Fridays my 'day off??' Oh to be at my desk with a hot choccy and a copy of Grazia .
Right, final push. The buggers better put an offer in after this!

Playingthewaitinggame · 01/02/2008 11:52

Morning all,

My word you have been busy and to think all I have been doing is sitting at a desk working! Deige, I think you are right when you say about going to work for a rest!!

Just read the GMTV article (thanks for pointing it our Natalie I hadn't heard about it). I Am quite as I now really have an excuse to start taking folic acid! DH was pretty resistant last time I suggested it when we went past the vits int he supermarket. He felt as we are not trying to the end of the year that it was too soon, but if anything I have left it too late by the sound of that article! Will buy some tomorrow.

Cosmogirl · 01/02/2008 12:24

I am being so badly behaved today.....
Playing - hope your DH isn't too freaked by the folic acid....mine was a little alarmed too when I bought some but now I have medical proof to present to him to show why I must start taking it.
Geordie Jogger - Gosh, not long until you can ready, set, ttc - can't beleive how quick the time is going so far. You have a very similar prep plan to me - though I've still not managed to kick the diet coke yet. I am going to try to wean myself on them and onto the caffeine free version, but sadly that is not as widely available! I don't like tea or coffee, so I am OK on that front.
Diege - fingers crossed for your viewing. I remember when we viewed a house (which we later bought) the lady was cooking a cake. Apparently the smell is meant to trick you into buying the house. Well it must've worked on us anyway....
Re: working notice; it is a really odd feeling. Just feel like I am watching the days tick by before I can escape Feel rather smug actually
Nuff of my rambling on now.....laters ladies.

Cosmogirl · 01/02/2008 12:32

Did you spot the deliberate mistake? - 'wean myself on them'.........caffeine is an evil evil drug - more evil than booze imo. Lol.

Ps. sorry I mispelled 'believe' too. i before e except after c...

Playingthewaitinggame · 01/02/2008 12:39

Hi Cosmo,

I know what you mean about working you notice, it is a strange feeling, you haven't actually left but you are def not part of the team anymore. Not surprised you are surfing the net!!

DH won't be freaked about folic acid, he wasn't when I suggested it before. I think he just 'knows' that you should take it 3 months before ttc so didnt see the need for it yet (or maybe was worried that I wanted ttc earlier than we had discussed). Either way if there is evidence that it should be taken earlier than that I am sure he will be behind it (as long as I buy folic acid rather than pregnacare, as that again would make him think I wanted ttc earlier than planned!). Having a healthy baby is just as important to him as it is to me, so I am sure he will think it makes sense.

Diege · 01/02/2008 12:49

Grrr, she arrived 15 minutes early, and basically said she liked it but was disappointed because it didn't have a lawned garden (er yes, that's what it says on the spec..and that's why we're moving . Seriously pi**ed off with viewer that winge about stuff that doesn;t exist (4 th bedroom etc) . Ah well, at least the house is clean

BeMyLilBaby · 01/02/2008 13:12

Hi all

diege what a foolish lady!!!

Have a question for you all

opinions welcome

Basically what would you do?

i have 3 options:

1.I leave my current job and find a new one - this means holding off ttc and potentially only being on SMP unless i wait ages to qualify for an enhanced rate

2.I stay in my current job till march - because this is when probations up but this doesnt mean id be any better off for sure because if after this i go with option 3, even if im perm staff theres nothing to say they wouldnt find a reason to let me go when i announce im pg

  1. carry on as planned, providing im taken on as perm staff (1 months notice on both parts) and risk that when PG they get rid of me

I spose option 2 and 3 are the same, any ideas?? xx

Cosmogirl · 01/02/2008 13:16

Ahh sorry to hear about the viewing Diege. Do people not read the property details before they view?! As you say, you got a clean house out of it, so every cloud...

Sorry for being dumb, but what is pregnacare? I've heard it mentioned on other threads but wasn't sure what it was? Is it a lot more expensive than folic acid?

Cosmogirl · 01/02/2008 13:20

Hi BB, sorry if this isn't what you want to hear but I would go for No 1. I think that having job security is a good thing when you a thinking of ttc. There will be so many things to worry about when pregnant that work/money stresses shouldn't dominate your thoughts. It really isn't so long to wait - and as we said before, there are a few of us in the same situation. HTH.

Playingthewaitinggame · 01/02/2008 13:20

BB- completely your decision no one can make up your mind for you. But, if you don't want to stay in your job you shouldn't. If all you get is SMP, its not that bad, thats all I will get here and all many women get. Plus, if ttc takes a while you will really regret staying in a job you hate which can cause more stress and make ttc harder. If you change jobs it only puts your plan back 3 months or so, thats really not the end of the world. I know its hard but in the scheme of things whats 3-6 months waiting compared to another year in a job you hate (assuming they dont fire you at the end of probation). Ultimately I dont want to tell you what you should do but I do think you should be thinking about what you want, if you want a new job, go for it, ttc can wait, if you want to stay with all the associated risks then stay.

Playingthewaitinggame · 01/02/2008 13:22

Cosmos, its just bascially a multi vit designed esp for pregnant women. It has folic acid in it and no vit A (which I believe is in most multi vits but pg women should not take). Apart from that I am not sure there is much difference between a normal multi vit but could be wrong, not an expert.

BeMyLilBaby · 01/02/2008 13:22

Thanks ladies you just confirmed what i already know deep down, its wat makes sense its just arggg in respect to wanting a baby so much BUT i know in my heart its whats best and right and will give us a chance to get striaghtr financially which of course will be a help in itself, Ive applied for four jobs today so hopefully if one comes off that would be lovely thanks for caring x

Diege · 01/02/2008 13:23

BYMY - they would be breaking the law if they suddenly 'let you go' after a pregnancy annoucement (that you don't need to make until 25 (ish?) weeks anyway. In fact, you being pregnant would probabloy be a DISincentive to make you redundant, because of possibilities of a tribunal IYSWIM. TBH, I'd be tempted to stay until the end of my probabtion, seeming as it's so soon. The chances are you'll be made permanent anyway, and if something drastic does happen (ie, whole company folds) then it could happen to any company, in any job. I think the fact that your 'new' probationalry period ends so soon, would make me go for option 2/3, and make sure that you maybe have a chat with union rep so that there's a record of your concerns in light of them pissing you about already.
