Pregnancy after MMC

Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately I had a MMC on our second pregnancy last month. (I have a 1 year old)
I should of been 9 weeks at my Scan but baby was only 8 weeks 4 so it had just happened. 3 days later I had a private D&C as I didn’t want to risk the hospital/ the trauma of dealing with it at home with my little boy.
I had bleeding on and off for 2 weeks after (6th of April was the D&C) I had regular bloody tests, my last one my HCG had come down to 70 so 3 days later I got my first negative test.
I had an internal to confirm no retained pregnancy and was given the all clear to try again straight away. I’ve had cystitis this weekend to add to my problems and now I’m getting this on my tests. Had anyone experienced anything similar, what are your thoughts? Feel like my body’s just giving up on me haha! I’d love to be pregnant again but I’d just be surprised if it could all happen within such a small time scale
Thanks everyone

@Leaf87 Same for me really - I only have one 'mum' friend who caught first time on her honeymoon and all my other friends are single really (I'm 31, TTC #1). Colleagues at work are all much older and have grown up children!

I will definitely be making the most of the nice weather this weekend with a prosecco or two in the garden I think! Xx

msanne · 06/05/2020 10:57

Hi Ladies, Just wanted to jump on this thread if that's ok.

I had to have a medical termination on the 25th March due to our baby having Trisomy 18; it was the most horrible experience of my life but I had a scan a few weeks ago and the Doctor said we could ttc after my next period as this should get rid of any pregnancy remnants. My HPT came back negative shortly afterwards.

AF arrived like clockwork on the 25th April and now we are actively ttc - although I have no idea when I am actually going to ovulate, how long it will take to get the BFP!

I wanted to join you ladies for this journey - it is so bittersweet, but I really can't think of anything else but getting pregnant again.

Sending you all lots of love xoxo

MrsTtobe · 06/05/2020 12:18

Welcome @msanne hope you don't mind me asking, what's Trisomy 18? Never heard of that. Hope you're ok. It's so hard to go through but here has definitely made me feel better, being free to talk about how I feel without upsetting people around me.
That's good AF arrived so quickly. Shows your body back to 'normal' I'm still waiting for mine. But im hoping it will come some point over the next week so I know where i stand. Are your cycles usually regular?
Good luck and can't wait for all our baby news 🙏🙏

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 12:19

Hi @msanne sorry to hear your in a similar boat it must have been awful for you.
However I must say its nice to know we are all in this together! Impressed your AF returned so quick, I am six weeks in from D&C and no sign of AF when I had a check up two weeks ago the informed me my 'ovaries were still asleep' Hmm
Had my first negative pregnancy test yesterday so would assume AF is still 4 weeks away.... that's why I am not sure I want to wait that long before trying again!!! I just want to relax enjoy not knowing for a while and see what happens.

@Frankincense88 I turn 33 next week... so keen to TTC again, most of my friends all had babies 29/30 so they have all finished now and have young children.

@MrsTtobe I am glad your OH os helping you out it's good to have support!!

Weather is great currently sat working in the garden it's great... also figure the vitamin D is good for my hormone levels!! Smile

msanne · 06/05/2020 15:08

@MrsTtobe - Trisomy 18 is Edwards syndrome. It is "incompatible with life" and we were strongly urged by the Medical team to have a termination. It came as a total shock to us both as I have had 2 normal pregnancies and didn't even suspect anything was wrong. We found out at our 12 week scan and I was 15 weeks by the time we terminated as the decision was a very hard one.

My cycles have always been regular - so I suppose I am lucky in that sense. although, after my "reality check" I really am not taking anything for granted and will be very hesitant and nervous whilst not only ttc but if I am able to get pregnant again quickly, throughout the whole pregnancy.

@leaf87 and @MrsTtobe - I have my fingers crossed that your AF arrives. You are both so young - I am sure you will have no issues. I'm 37 now so definitely pushing the boat out here...I've also heard that after miscarriage/ termination you also have a chance to hyperovulate....so chances of having twins is higher too!

A question for you ladies - which prenantal vitamins are you taking? I am not sure if I am overdosing atm...currently taking folic acid, daily Multivitamins and EPO.

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 15:16

@msanne I'm taking the Pregnacare conception and DH is taking the male version. I've been taking them since September and then Pregnacare Max when I was actually pregnant and even though I don't think they actually helped us to conceive, I have never felt so 'well'. Not had a cold or been ill for over a year (and I'm a teacher so my place of work is essentially a hotbed of germs!!)

Would be interesting to see what everyone else takes though and if there's anything else worth taking I should be buying!

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 16:29

@msanne & @Frankincense88 I have been taking folic acid and vitamin D since November then while I was pregnant had very high does of it for 12 weeks from the doctor. I have carried on taking the folic acid and both myself and husband are taking the pregnacare preconception ones. We have only been taking them for a month tho.
I am also taking Iron as I lost a lot of blood in surgery and ended up staying in hospital for 2 nights.
I was considering taking more B6 as I think that can help your progesterone levels. I spotted from 6 weeks with the last pregnancey so wondered if my levels were low???
Again tho I think cortisol effects progesterone and my cortisol will have been very high as my dad died early feb and was very poorly all of January... just as we found out we were pregnant.....

msanne · 06/05/2020 19:39

@leaf87 I am so sorry for your losses - it must've been horrible to go through that at the same time.

I haven't had any experience in spotting before, but that's not to say it wouldn't happen in the future. Have you spoken to your GP about B6? I don't know much about it yet...

Thanks for the vitamins recommendations ladies (@frankincense88) - it really is a great support to have others in the same boat.

Keep on posting xoxo

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 20:40

Hi all. I have had a miscarriage or chemical pregnancy, (whatever you want to call it) today at 4 weeks and 3 days.

I had positive tests (from Wednesday last week until Monday this week). All was good, all usual pregnancy symptoms. (Tender breasts and nausea etc)

Yesterday, i did another test and noticed the line was slightly lighter.

Today, i woke up to thick brown discharge, followed by dark pink and then red bleeding, along with lots of cramping. I did another test, which had the faintest tiniest positive line. The doctor i rang said this sounds like a miscarriage, and to reconfirm next week with another test. She said 1 in 5 pregnancies have a miscarriage.

I am 33, 34 in August, generally fit and well.
This was our first pregnancy, and I am absolutely gutted from this outcome. I didnt think it would happen to me!!!

Does anyone have any insight as to how quickly their cycle/fertility comes back, as I am already super keen to start trying again!! And how long does it take to 'get rid' of what it is doing now?

Any advice!? Thanks xx

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 21:16

Hi @MrsBlue1986
I am really sorry to hear this, unfortunately that seems to be the standard from medical people. I am 32 (33 next week) very healthy, good weight first pregnancey and have struggled with not really knowing why it happened to me.... all my friends have had successful pregnancies first time and I very much had that why me... why do I have to be the 1 in four!

I Miscarried and had surgical management at 13 weeks the baby stopped growing at 11+5. That was six weeks ago tomorrow and I still havent got my AF yet and only had a negative pregnancey test Tuesday. I would say as your hormones haven't risen to much of your getting negative tests all ready your cycle should pick up where you left off?

I am by no means an expert. I have however found great comfort talking to these amazing women today ❤

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 21:24

@leaf87 Ah im sorry to hear about you too! Its just so upsetting isnt it? Must be harder the longer you're pregnant 🙁

Thank you for your kind words, I guess its the build up of excitement...to nothing. We told our mums before, and they were supportive...surprised us by saying they both had them before they had us (30+ years ago mind!)

Im hoping this only happens for a few days and then i can get back to normal and start trying again!!! Xx

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 21:31

@MrsBlue1986 No advice I'm afraid as still waiting for my cycle to return myself (4.5 weeks post MMC) but I am sorry this happened to you and sending lots of positive vibes xx

Leaf87 · 06/05/2020 21:34

@MrsBlue1986 I think every woman feels the same be kind to yourself it's still a loss and a big shock for you. Fingers crossed for both of us it is just a one off.... I am keen to keep TTC... but also try not to become to focused... on the end goal! Easier said than done some times 🤣

MrsBlue1986 · 06/05/2020 21:39

Thank you @Frankincense88
Did you ovulate during the last few weeks, because ive read that some women can ovulate 2 weeks after the miscarriage? Sorry for you too! Fingers crossed for us both xx

bubblybon2020 · 06/05/2020 21:47

Hi, found this thread and hope you don't mind me joining.

I had a natural miscarriage on the 9th April. Roughly 8 + 4, and the day before my first midwife appointment. I bled for around a week, and my period returned the exact cycle times as before MC, I got my first negative exactly 3 weeks after my mc too. We DTD a few times in the 2 weeks, but didn't have much luck!

I already have 2 children, this was my 3rd pregnancy, but my first miscarriage so was quite hard to understand it all, as it is to everyone. Hoping to try again this month. It's so nice to read such positive, encouraging posts from people in the same situation. Makes you know that your not alone.
I wish everyone luck and some baby dust. X

Frankincense88 · 06/05/2020 22:42

@MrsBlue1986 I have absolutely no idea if I have or not - not going to track or monitor properly until my cycle is back to normal because I know I'll just spend hundreds of pounds on tests and work myself up over it like I did last time 😂🙃

MrsTtobe · 07/05/2020 06:18

Morning ladies, welcome @bubblybon2020
I have 2 children too, this was my third pregnancy but first miscarriage. I was shocked, my pregnancies had both been smooth sailing. I blamed myself for the first few days. I was 11 weeks pregnant and my miscarriage was 4 weeks ago now really. I bled lightly for 3 days then the actual miscarriage for 2 days. My cycles are pretty regular, 26 ish days so expecting AF anytime now really.
Like a few of the girls, we didn't wait with ttc again. I stopped bleeding after a few days and we got straight too it 🤣 but we haven't really discussed that we're 'trying' but we are both tying to be relaxed about it.
Hope you're well. We have all miscarried within a couple of weeks of each other on here and everyone lovely so we are all expecting AF or even better a positive pregnancy test sometime soon. 🙏

@msanne you asked about supplements. We started ttc in Oct 19, I was just taking pregnacare but I read somewhere about B6 lengthening the LP and since my cycles were quite short I tried it from 1st Jan, had a period end of Jan then the following month found out I was pregnant so maybe coincidental but maybe not. I will take it again after first AF but just wanted to let my body do its thing on its own first. Taking Pregnacare though. I took the vitamin b complex from H&B.

Hope you're all ok xx

MrsTtobe · 07/05/2020 06:19

Sorry for the morning essay 🤣 my 2 yr old had me up at 5 😴

Bells993 · 07/05/2020 07:03

Hey Ladies, so sorry for all your losses it really is horrible isn’t it.
@msanne how awful for you Especially at 15 weeks 😭
I’ve still had no progress with the lines and I keep having the tinnest amounts of blood every now and then. Not sure if it’s my body still clearing things out (even though I had two internals)
Just going to wait another week now and see what happens. Just wasting money on tests in hope 😩

Bells993 · 07/05/2020 07:41

When will everyone be roughly due an AF?
So hard to know when you could be Ovulating or due on. I’ve been doing the clear blue tests for O
I said I wouldn’t this month but I gave in 😂🙄 I got a flashing face two days ago and a solid face last night so DTD, maybe another long two week wait now which makes me think that must have been some left over hormone. I’d go and get a blood test if it wasn’t for covid xx

Morning ladies,

Well my MMC was on the 6th, took MM after a failed dose on the Friday and it started about 7pm, bled heavily with pain for about 4 hours then bled incredibly lightly for about 5 days after that. Had nothing for a few days but then last week had a bit of what I think was remains come away but only while on the toilet or showering and no pain (weird! And if was hardly anything and brown not red like AF) so no idea when ovulation was / will be, no idea when AF will arrive! I'm usually 28 days on the dot so hoping for this week! All a guessing game for now. I've got a 10 pack of CB OPK but don't want to waste them if I've already ovulated! Xx

msanne · 07/05/2020 10:05

Good morning all,

@Bells993 AF is due for me on the 23rd according to my Glow app so will need to wait and see. As I have only had one full cycle since the termination I am not sure how long my cycle length is now so will have to wait and see. Trying to DTD as often as possible to maximise chances as I don't know when I am ovulating.

@MrsTtobe - thanks for the supplement information.

@bubblybon2020 and@MrsBlue1986 - sorry for your recent losses. I hope that together we can all get our rainbow babies for 2021! It all does seem surreal when it happens to you, as you never believe it can happen to you. But you will get through it - just make sure you reach out for support! You're not alone!

xx

MrsTtobe · 07/05/2020 17:05

Ive just been sitting here thinking about us all and im so hopeful that we can all get our rainbow babies together and help each other along the way. 🌈❤

Leaf87 · 07/05/2020 21:08

Hi all sorry busy day!!
I think maybe my AF is due around the 20th May. However I can not be sure six weeks In from D&C surley it will make an appearance soon. @MrsTtobe fingers crossed that's all I can say!!
I hope everyone has nice plans for the long weekend! Time to relax unwind and have plenty of time to TTC BlushBlush

MrsTtobe · 09/05/2020 22:32

I'm cd 32 now if I take my first day as first day of miscarriage. My boobs are really tender and ive had back ache. Surely it's too early to be pregnant? I'm too scared to do a test because it seems ridiculous. My miscarriage was only 4 weeks ago. Maybe signs AF due...

Hope you're all ok and having a nice weekend.
