Hello Ladies.

I’m mid 30s ttc my first. I was on the depo before, I know that causes issues to fertility and it will take longer. It was three months before my periods came back but I’ve been regular as clockwork since. Fairly certain I’m ovulating (lot of signs pointing to it) but still no baby. Im due again in the next couple of days and I can tell I’m going to come on.

I tried with my ex a few years ago for 7/8 months (although it was a very half hearted and not really a surprise it didn’t happen.) I wanted a baby for different reasons back then and got very upset every month. I was determined not to get as upset and try be more relaxed with my new partner but I’m starting to find it hard.

How do you cope with the disappointment of another failed cycle?

Hi OP. We tried for 7 months until we got a BFP. I had been using Ovusense so knew our timing was right, which made it a bit more worrying that it wasn't happening, but I suppose that proves that it can just take time (which I of course knew but didn't believe!). No tips to get rid of the disappointment every month, but what I did was try to do something different every month (eg. tried SMEP, introduced Preseed, OPKs, read fertility books etc.) to make me feel like I at least had some control over something very uncontrollable! Also trawled MN for reassuring stories from people in the same boat. The month we got BFP I tried a few new things (I started to take seven seas supplements, and stopped tracking (but I definitely didn't stop thinking about it!). Would really recommend Ovusense too - it's expensive but it tells you exactly when you ovulated and you get a 1 hour video call with a fertility nurse which was helpful! Good luck x

Twinkletoes85 · 06/05/2020 19:31

@beachbum85 @Nat4392 there’s so much more involved than you ever think. I always assumed you just dtd a bit more than normal and a couple of months later you’d be pregnant. MN is great for finding people who know how you feel and reassurance!

@CurbsideProphet I will keep my fingers crossed for you that it’s not af and this is your month!

@Slippingcareer that’s interesting, I will look into that. I’m 35 this year so concerned about fertility. Thank you for mentioning it!

@MB19847 congratulations! That’s fab news Smile I will look into the seven seas. I’ve just had some Agnus Castus arrive as I’ve read interesting things about that. Plus side is it’s supposed to help with pms too so either way hopefully will be useful. Is Ovusense an app?

Slippingcareer · 06/05/2020 19:47

@twinkletoes85 there’s also a test you can do to check your ovarian reserve, I did it a few years ago.

MB19847 · 06/05/2020 19:56

The Seven Seas Trying for a Baby don't have the recommended amount of vitamin D in them but I just changed immediately to their pregnancy ones after (had read good reviews on Amazon so thought they were worth the try and thankfully they were!). Ovusense is a monitor that measures your core body temp during the night and then tells you with 99% accuracy when you ovulated based on sustained temp rise (www.ovusense.com/uk/). It comes with an app so you can look at the charts and the fertility nurse can look at patterns for you in the call at 4 months. Downside is just the price but I was willing to give anything a go!

Twinkletoes85 · 06/05/2020 20:15

@Slippingcareer is that one you need to go to a doctor for?

@MB19847 that sounds really interesting! I will brace myself for the price when I google haha

I felt like this after six months TTC. Then in the seventh month I got a BFP!

MrsW2603 · 06/05/2020 20:29

Hello all, can I join? I'm in my 30's too and have been TTC for what feels like forever. We had a 4 month baby making break in November when I broke my ankle and are on cycle 3 since starting up again. My period was a day late this month and I foolishly allowed myself to get excited then yesterday I noticed weird, brown spotting when I wiped. I've the same brown spotting today too so looks like I'm out and AF is here. It's so frustrating as I've had zero period signs this week and I don't feel like I'm on my period at all.
This journey is the hardest, it seems a month long rollercoaster that's on a loop.

Slippingcareer · 06/05/2020 20:30

@Twinkletoes85 no you can also do that on LetsGetChecked. They send you a test kit, and it’s a blood sample by a finger prick. You get the results within 5 days.

jennylouisaa · 06/05/2020 20:33

It's just absolutely shit isn't it. I'm on cycle 12 now and I don't even seem to have ovulated this month 😭

Twinkletoes85 · 06/05/2020 21:00

@Mucklowe congratulations!! Smile it’s nice to know there’s hope

@MrsW2603 welcome! I don’t want to get your hopes up but just spotting doesn’t count you out. Some women can have implantation bleeding which is like spotting. I know what you mean about it being a rollercoaster!

@Slippingcareer oh I will definitely look into that!! I sort of don’t want to know in case it’s bad news but I also really want to know.

@jennylouisaa it really is just shit. Constant second guessing of everything you feel. Are you tracking your ovulation at all?

Nat4392 · 06/05/2020 21:22

@Twinkletoes85 I’ve started Agnus Castus this month as I have a relatively short luteal phase, so far my follicular phase has lengthened by 2 days (don’t know if it’s a coincidence but my FP is usually very regular). Fingers crossed it makes a difference x

MrsW2603 · 06/05/2020 21:28

Thanks TwinkleToes, for a second I considered implantation bleeding but as it started a day after AF was due I think it's really unlikely. I'm going to wait and see if the spotting turns into a full on flow (my periods are usually very heavy) and take it from there. There's all ways next month

Twinkletoes85 · 06/05/2020 21:57

@Nat4392 that’s positive. I hope it makes a difference and you get your bfp x

@MrsW2603 There is always next month. It’s really tough, I’m sure it will happen for us all eventually x

CurbsideProphet · 07/05/2020 10:45

Sadly AF reared her head last night. That was only day 25. I'm having a blood test next week to check my hormones.
Interestingly AF is already quite heavy when for the past few cycles it has felt lighter.

@MrsW2603 it really is like being on an endless loop. Same conversations, same hopes, then the same disappointments 😬

Twinkletoes85 · 07/05/2020 11:01

@curbsideprophet I’m sorry af has arrived 😞 hopefully the blood test answers will help!

OP posts:
beachbum85 · 07/05/2020 11:25

@CurbsideProphet and @MrsW2603 really sorry about AF! Sad

@Mucklowe and @MB19847 Congratulations and thanks for sharing your positive stories! it's so encouraging to hear how others got there in the end Star

@Slippingcareer thanks for the tips too! Smile

Lindsey02 · 07/05/2020 12:22

Afternoon all

I am 35 and TTC baby number 2, this is my first cycle trying and I’m already driving myself insane. I had a positive opk yesterday and EWCM today. I’m on cycle day 16 and drd cd12 and 14. I already feel like a mad women

Twinkletoes85 · 07/05/2020 13:15

@Lindsey02 welcome ☺️ How olds your first? Sounds like it’s not any easier second time round then!? Fingers crossed it happens for you soon

OP posts:
jennylouisaa · 07/05/2020 13:41

@Twinkletoes85 yeh I've been using OPKs and monitoring CM. Most cycles I get a positive OPK between CD14 and 18, but now the lines are just getting lighter and lighter

Lindsey02 · 07/05/2020 13:48

My little boy is 3, it’s so tough I think when you want something so much and it seems so hard for most to achieve

kittenpeak · 07/05/2020 16:50

Hi, I am in the same position as you. Mid 30s and TTC for 6 months. I use clear blue ovulations tests and DTD each time there is a flashy or static face and still nothing. (Anyone got any suggestions- is this the right or wrong thing to do?) It’s so upsetting. Due on tomorrow and can feel my period coming. Starting to cry just typing this! What upsets me is that surely if a sperm is there, and an egg is there it should work?! I guess we just need to stay positive, and appreciate it takes time, but it’s hard hearing success stories.

CurbsideProphet · 07/05/2020 17:21

Ah thank you @beachbum85 💐

@kittenpeak oh I completely feel your pain - mid 30s, trying for 6 cycles, AF started yesterday. Spent my 20s making sure I didn't get pregnant. Well ho hum, apparently it's not as easy as they make it look on tv 😒
I keep reminding myself that up to 12 months is completely normal. Doesn't make it any easier 😔

Twinkletoes85 · 07/05/2020 19:25

@Lindsey02 aww bless him, a good age to be a big brother! Yes it is harder than you think and you don’t realise how much you want it till it doesn’t happen straight away. Fingers crossed for you x

@kittenpeak it is hard to hear success stories when it’s taking you longer. I know what you mean the amount of sperm and the one egg you’d think there would be a higher chance! I thought af was due yesterday but I was wrong and it’s due tomorrow. I’m pretty certain she will be arriving. It will be our time one day

@CurbsideProphet you’re so right about putting in so much effort in your 20s to not get pregnant. Then when you want to... tv makes it look so easy

Hey ladies, hope you don’t mind me joining. All of your messages have really helped me today. I’m 33 & I’m trying ttc. This month is the start of my 6th month. Feeling a bit down & struggling to stay positive.

The way you all describe your thoughts & feelings is exactly the same as mine. You have made me feel like I’m not losing my mind.

Like you all I can’t help but feel disheartened with every pregnancy announcement. Two close friends have recently announced. One has PCOS, wasn’t even trying, hadn’t had a period in 8 months, had a period in Jan & pregnant! The 2nd was trying & pregnant the first month. So so happy for them I really am. They both deserve every happiness.

I’ve planned to get pregnant for a while. Stopped drinking, stopped taking the pill 9 months ago, started taking pregnacare 9 months ago. I have been using clear blue OPK so I know exactly when to DtD. Reduced caffeine intake to 2 cups of decaf a day & upped my water intake.

Just scared something may be wrong. I know in the grand scheme of things 5 months isn’t long but I know I’m DtD at the right time so I can’t help but think why hasn’t it happen yet?

This month I’m also going to try pre-seed in the hope that increases our chances. Fingers crossed!

Sending all you lovely ladies baby dust 😘

CurbsideProphet · 07/05/2020 22:00

Hi @justjen87 👋🏻
I'm at cycle 6 so I know how you feel. As I said further up the thread I know that up to 12 months is completely normal, but it's still rubbish.
