New ttc no1 thread.

BTW if anyone knows where those no1 babies are I'd like to know! If I was a real detective I think I would have been sacked by now!

God it's quiet on here today.. oh well - off to cook tea! May not be back on till tomorrow now..

Millie26 · 10/08/2007 10:07

Hello! I wasnt in the office yesterday so didnt get a chance to write - sorry you were by yourself toomuch Glad you are feeling a lot happier.
I didnt read about the triplets - that's amazing Poor woman though, suffering a blow that hard!

Really confused as to where my af has gone -
no pmt signs or anything. Am about to go on holiday so surely it should be appearing now? Really want it to start so that we can ttc properly. I refuse to keep standing on my head while downing grapefruit juice and trying to 'relax' everytime we have sex if I've missed the egg boat for this month.

Am off on hols tomorrow - back on the 22nd - keep the thread alive until then so I catch up with you all! XX

nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 11:41

Hi all, sorry I wasn't around much yesterday either!

mollie How frustrating for you re the egg boat! (like the phrase though! ) Where are you off to for your hols?

toomuch Hello properly - sorry you've been poorly, I missed you while you were away but glad you're back . We can do more virtual shopping/baby debates now!

MT I learnt the violin at about 9 don't think my parents quite knew what they'd signed up for though! I was not musically talented, they should have realised that when I scraped (literally) a pass in grade 1&2, but got distinction on the theory - I understood all the technical stuff, just couldn't play. (I am still awful at anything musical, the difference now is that I just don't care anymore, it sounds ok in my head so it's everyone else's problem!)

My face had errupted in bad spots - you know the type where they're not black/white heads but more swelling under the skin? Well they came up a couple of days ago and now I look like I've got chicken pox! I'm secretly hoping it's a symptom, but trying to be sensible and tell myself it's not! (this Clomid's given me the enthusiasm/optimism of a rookie ttc-er - no offence to you rookies)

ps anyone seen any trace of treenie anywhere? I think she's fallen off the edge of the MN world

Haha, sodding egg boat - so unpredictable! Am off to Sweden for a back to nature trip of fishing, walking and elk spotting

No internet at all. Cant be expected when there's no running drinking water or flushing loo either. Have to collect water from a spring and wee in a glorifed bucket of cat litter. V romantic

Oo...totally know what you mean about those spots - they are linked to your hormones arent they? You've only got a few more days before you can test - woo hoo!

toomuchtimeonline · 10/08/2007 12:10

Hi Guys!!

I think eggboat will now be added to the TTC No1 vocab as bonging is!!

Can't believe how excited we can get about getting spots - this ttc lark is funny isn't it! Hope it's a good sign for you Normore! And glad you've found a teensie bit of fun back in this TTC lark after all you've been thruough! I'm really hoping that the clomid does the job for you!!

Sweden sound like fun Millie - hope you're AF comes soon so that you can bong till the eggboat arrives!!

I had 2 days of spotting and proper AF today - does that still mean CD 1 is today? Even though there were 2 days of spotting? mmm

toomuchtimeonline · 10/08/2007 12:13

p.s. I think we need a good debate to keep us going don't we... mm lets think... oh I know..

With lots of my mates having babies at the moment there is a lot of debate between the routine method (contented little baby book - i.e. feed at certain times, naps and bed at certains times, fixed bedtime routine, controlled crying etc..) and the attachment method (eg. always carrying your baby, letting your baby eat and sleep when it wants, basically letting your baby lead the way) - so what approach do you think you'll take?

I know it's naive as we're not even pregnant yet.. but I think I'm going to go for the more routine approach - what do you think?

nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 12:15

Sounds like a great holiday to get away from everything - you won't have time to think about ttc, just where your next meal is coming from. Sounds wonderful actually - can I come too?

OP posts:
nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 12:22

ooh - don't mention contented little baby book on MN, you'll get crucified!
I'd like to go for something in the middle - a routine, but not so strict that it can't be adapted. I'm a very tactile person, so think it'll probably be more attached than anything. (If my cat's asleep on my lap when the doorbell/phone rings I'll take him with me, more often than not cradled in a 'baby' position) It all depends on whether I approach being a Mum as I do my professional life (organised/ planned) or my home life which I can only describe as 'crisis management'!

OP posts:
toomuchtimeonline · 10/08/2007 12:29

Nomore - sounds like what I think I will do too - I like the idea of a routine but not a strict one and I want to be able to cuddle my baby as much as pos so I think I'm probably more attachment too!

Hope I don't get crucified for mentioning it... [looks around scared]

toomuchtimeonline · 10/08/2007 12:31

ok - I'm rubbish at topics.. does anyone else have any good ones..

Millie26 · 10/08/2007 13:22

I dont have any topics, I'm too busy thinking about how brilliant the phrase 'bonging' is.

nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 13:27

How about feeding? I'd like to bf but want DH to be involved too, so would like to express so he can feed too. Have any of you seen the breastcrawl video? It's amazing and it reminded me of how totally natural bf is - I was worried that I wouldn't get the 'hang' of it but the video just made me realise it's what the whole of the rest of nature does. (Sorry if I sound at bit mad) Will try to find link to video if anyone's not seen it?

Toomuch - I've got no idea about CDs but I'll be interested to find out the answer. Someone asked about whether if you start at midnight is the day before CD1 or the day after - can't remmeber the answer though (realise none of this is helpful at all, sorry!).

Nomore - definitely come along

Millie26 · 10/08/2007 13:32

Ooo..someone I know has just had a baby and she said that bf-ing is the hardest thing ever, that her boobs really really hurt, that it's really difficult to get keep a nipple in the baby's mouth and that when she sees men on tv talking about how it should be the law to breastfeed or whatever she wants to bash them.

She also said that it's weird getting boobs out infront of people, like your sister-in-law and your husband's father.

Saying that though, I'm definitely going to breastfeed

scorpio1 · 10/08/2007 13:37

CD1 is the first day that you need sanitary protection before 4pm. HTH

and i dont know about BF-ing....

(sorry i like it here )

nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 13:39

here's the MN page talking about breastcrawl, though the website doesn't seen to be working at the moment :(

I am slightly nervous about DF/FIL but may well just disappear upstairs if baby needs feeding when we're at theirs, unless I manage to learn the art of sly bf! Saw one lady bf very discretly at a wedding we went to ages ago and it took about 5 of us a good few minutes to work out that that was what she was doing! May well need to learn this skill anyway as our front window is next to a footpath and I don't want joe public getting an eyeful everytime!

nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 13:40

Hi scorpio How are you? Still feeling sick (in a good way)?

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 10/08/2007 13:47

I'm good thankyou Sicky, sore (veiny) boobies and trying to eat! (can't afford to lose any weight). although please dont think im moaning cos im deffo not

only told our parents, they were very happy

nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 13:56

Grr just typed a msg and IE window closed

As I was saying...

scorpio aww that's really lovely - I can't wait til we tell DParents.

A new topic for debate (fresh from another thread) - where do you want to have your baby hospital/home/midwife unit etc? and how - drugs/water/active birth etc?

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 10/08/2007 13:59

at home and nothing for me

nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 14:09

I'm thinking of using either a midwife unit or hospital (I'm too scared of something going wrong at home) but don't want to stay in unless I have to. I'd like an active birth, maybe using a birthing pool, but again am slightly anxious about having a full water birth. DF of mine had home water birth with her first - v brave!

OP posts:
nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 14:11

Off to do the food shopping now - see you all in a bit (by which time I want answers to my questions please )

OP posts:
nomoremagnolia · 10/08/2007 17:01

I'm back and no-one's answered my questions! Where are you all? Do you all finish work early on a Fri or something

OP posts:
Ready · 10/08/2007 18:01

Hi girls - I am back!! I have missed out on loads haven't I... not least Scorpio's news... congratulations on the BFP chick, lovely news.

I haven't got time for the post that I want to write. DH is taking me out for a meal, since I was so brave having my HSG today.

But I just wanted to pop in to say, that I am back after my little break, and eager to answer all nomoremagnolia's great questions. Just not today

mistlethrush · 10/08/2007 22:10

OK - was completely intent on having water birth, active birth, no artificial pain relief.... All I will say is that I'm really glad that we went to NCT classes and were able to make some sort of informed decisions when things didn't go to plan!

The only thing that did go OK was bf - ds had 20mins feed within 40mins. Again, I think that the NCT classes helped. I think that we had an advantage in that ds was 10lb 5 oz - which made him quite strong from the beginning (including being able to move his head off my shoulder for a couple of seconds on day 1 (then clunk!))

Ds had very determined thoughts about what was acceptable in terms of locations to sleep (my arms) and feed (approx every 2 - 2.5hrs) etc etc I had assumed that, by 2 months+ I would start to be able to arrange some time to do things. Ds was determined that this wasn't going to be the case. When with me during the day, it wasn't until 9 months that he started having a midday nap in his cot

Bf generally - it gets easier to some extent, in that you both know what you're doing. However, as soon as there are distractions, the head tends to turn (without letting go), then there is often a dramatic turn of the head and you end up having to mop milk off the sofa/carpet/fireplace....

Anyway, bf to 22months - went down to 2 x per day at the end. It does get easy to be discrete - didn't find the 'specialised' bf clothes any good from this point of view compred with a baggy Tshirt or similar style top.
