New ttc no1 thread.

BTW if anyone knows where those no1 babies are I'd like to know! If I was a real detective I think I would have been sacked by now!

I love Olivia... but it's right up at the top of the chart! Sulk.

Charlotte is very pretty. Is it really popular? Probably because of Charlotte's Web?

bearofverylittlebrain · 27/08/2007 14:49

I don't know why Charlotte is so popular, it wasn't 7 years ago!

bearofverylittlebrain · 27/08/2007 15:00

From real nappy campaign website

What is the cost?

An initial outlay to equip you with a number of nappies is necessary; but this is a one off payment and means you are not constantly paying for single use disposables on a weekly basis.

From birth to potty each baby typically gets through between 4,000 and 6,000 nappies.

Basic real nappies cost less than £2 each, with more sophisticated products costing around £3-10 each.

Disposables cost on average 12.2p each (including in-store offers).

Approximate cost of purchasing and home laundering real nappies for 2.5 years ranges from £185 to about £352 depending mainly on nappy type.

The minimum cost of using disposables for 2.5 years is £463.11 but could cost as much as £732.

You can achieve further savings by using the same real nappies for your second child.

Home washing can cost as little as £1 per week.

Laundry services range on average from £6-11 per week.

Wasn't Charlotte's Web made into a film in the last few years though? Probably why it is popular all of a sudden??

Thanks for the link cbcb - really cool!!

Bearofverylittlebrain - It makes sense financially, environmentally and potentially physically for the baby to use reusables. The financial side of things was the only concern I had... Settled

kensgirl · 27/08/2007 20:27

Hi all!!

I'm back after my holidays now, we had a loveky time, and I survived the pregnant girlfriend ..phew!!!!

Wow,you have been a chatty lot!! I think I will just start again

Nice to see you back, Ready! How did your hsg go? Fingers crossed for you ths month, there have been several bfp's after hsg's, as I'm sure you know, but hopefully it will be your turn soon xx

Momore - great news about the high progesterone level, you must be feeling so happy that everything is starting to move in the right direction xx

Congratulations BabyBratt Its great to see good news on my return,I think we had been ttc for about the same amount of time, so maybe it will be my turn soon. Hope you are feeling very sick, in the best possible way!

Mistlethrush, how are you?

Well, cd6 for me, 8.5months after mc. We have decided to give it 2 more cycles before slinking to the GP to admit failure and beg for help.

Hope everyone is OK,it feels like I have been away ages!

nomoremagnolia · 27/08/2007 20:41

Kensgirl Welcome back! It's not failure or begging for help One in three couples need help (and you're in good company remember)

Morning all - busy busy weekend and didn't really get the chance to get online!

Hope you are all ok!

Welcome back Kensgirl glad you had a good holiday! Where are you in your cycle - any chance of a holiday BFP?

Nomore - loving your organisation! Can't believe you've pretty much picked everything already! I really need to get my virtual shopping head sorted - I'm really keen for cloth nappies too so await the outcome of your finalised research

That vertbaudet stuff is way too nice sybil I could spend a fortune!

Ready - I'm with you on the lists - I'm terrible with lists - my handbag is huge as it has so many bits of paper and notebooks in it which I carry around with me all the time.. I'm a nutter!

Hello everyone else! 4 day week - yee-ha

mistlethrush · 28/08/2007 10:51

Hi everyone - back from a sunny week in Wales followed by bank holiday weekend spent doing hard labour in the garden, so shattered! At least we had fantastic weather that somewhat made up for very wet week in May. Although as music week, didn't make the most of it. Ds loved day on beach though - ran around like a mad thing and made unassisted sandcastles!

Have just caught up with last week - very busy here!

Welcome Sybil - sorry I wasn't here, no, you're not the only one not ttc#1 - me ttc#2 - suggested to dh that he might like to start cooperating again (complete lack of bonging last month (- grr re ttc, but also re no ....)

Hi Kensgirl. Cd9 for me. Don't think that we'll go further than ttc naturally, given past experience and the fact that we do have one fantastic ds.

We have: Triptrap chair - fantastic - like the lack of chair, great at the table and also good for crafts at a table.

Reusable nappies: we chose different ones than we would have done if we hadn't hired a 'variety' set from a nappy lady - which enables you to try lots of different sorts out. We would have bought all shaped, but ended up getting prefolds for at least some of the time. Certainly at the beginning, this means that you can change very regularly but don't have to spend a fortune, and they also dry quicker than lots of shaped. Later on our favourite wraps have been Nature Babies. Ds used these in nursery with shaped (Totsbots) with Bamboozle Totsbots and fleece wrap at night (with extra padding when necessary). Different shapes and types fit different baby shapes better, so strongly recommned some sort of trial before you invest a lot prior to birth... And, did you notice the use of past participle re ds's use of shaped at nursery - yes, he's potty trained - bascially did it himself at about 2.2, and at nursery the other children at the same stage were largely girls several months older than him. I think that the washables makes potty training earlier and easier...

Think I'd better end this rather long post now!

Ready · 28/08/2007 12:26

Kensgirl - Good to have you back - Sorry that you feel as if going to the DR is failing. I totally understand that feeling, I felt it too. But Nomore is right, lots of couples need a bit of a leg-up (great choice of phrase )
Did you have a lovely time?

MT - Thanks for your info on nappies.

toomuch - Glad I am not the only one with lists for lists

Nomore - We are good company aren't we

How's everyone else??

kensgirl · 28/08/2007 12:53

Morning all!

Thanks Ready, its nice to know we allhave so mush support here, far more than in rl sometimes! We had great time, and true to my promise I did indeed raise my glass of naughty rum and coke and think of you all, when we were waist high in the Carribean sea, at Saona island, while being served the said rum and coke off the back of a speedboat...bliss!
(whispers to Ready - good luck with the test, sending you good vibes and a big hug...)

Hi Toomuch, and Mistlethrush! CD 7 for me, ugly old af put in her appearance at the airport on the way home. Dh if going on another(!!) stag do from Thursday lunchtime until Saturday evening, which I think is the run up to ov - ggrrr! So, he knows he is on baby making duties immediately before he sets off and on return, to try and make sure I have the neccessary ingredients !

Glad see I am in good list making company, Nomore! Lists for lists, and I always put something on I have alreday done, just so I can cross it off..

mistlethrush · 28/08/2007 13:07

I did find it very difficult buying anything 'before the date' - got fingers burned previously when I bought jacket for work suitable for pregnancy then had mc - followed by 18months not being allowed to start ttc - with jacket skulking in a cupboard all the time... Chose and booked the buggy in about March (May edd). Better that way than the way my neighbours went about it - announced pregnancy at 7wks, bought buggy, scan at 12 wks - found it was twins, by which time buggy had been in garage so couldn't be taken back, needed to buy new twin buggy....

Ds's room was decorated by my parents the week before he arrived (didn't need it immediately anyway)

BTW, ds's favorite 'blanket' on his bed is the quilt that my mother made for him. He also likes the picture that she painted for him - and knows that she did it specially for him. His room is not remotely themed I'm afraid, although there are lots of animals - just got things picked out because I liked them and suitable for girl or boy. (Yellow walls, denim blue curtains with appliqued animals...)

kensgirl · 28/08/2007 13:11

Aww, the room sounds lovely Mistlethrush! I curently have 2 pai4s of work trousers, in a bigger size, but not maternity, sitting in the wardrobe in a carrier bag, that I didn't get to wear. I'm going to go with the 'not tempting fate' line when it happens again (said in a positive voice).

mistlethrush · 28/08/2007 13:20

Definitely the way I went 2nd time. I wore things until I didn't fit into them. I had 1 maternity pair of work trousers, 1 work skirt (that didn't get worn much), and 2 pairs of home trousers together with tops and aforesaid jacket - jumpers - just bought xL normal ones, coat - borrowed dh's old one...

One of worst issues was shoes - ruined the ones I wore to work as stretched them. Walking the dog was the biggest problem, ended up only really being able to get wellies on conveniently - not very comfortable.

Have to think along the lines of when, not if... Last time not meant to be. Next time, fingers crossed

Yes, GillyD, had exactly that thought this morning when ds burst into histrionic wailing when I suggested he might like to sit on his potty this morning...

and then decided that it was better to bite the toothbrush that use it and have another paddy when I brushed his teeth...

But then he creeps back into the bathroom looking a bit tear stained, with a little smile on his face (very cute) and comes for a cuddle and I think, yes, I could do with another one like that, despite the occasional tantrum.

I think that my main reason for wanting a second is what if... Even if he does make it in this world (that at times feels really scary as a parent), he may never find the right person to settle down with etc etc... In some ways being an only child puts quite a lot of pressure on - if anyone is to suceed it has to be you etc. This struck home when dh's younger brother managed to produce 2 girls in between us deciding to start trying and actually getting ds. That meant that m + fil had grandchildren, but mine didn't.

toomuchtimeonline · 29/08/2007 11:27

It was quiet on here yesterday...

Hi Gilly - glad to hear you feeling so positive! Good look with your smear and hope the nurse is nice to you! Where's your shopping list? In answer to your question - I often see screaming kids or have friends kids visit and have a momentary thought of "what the hell am I doing" - but the urge to have a baby is so much stronger. Although I do worry about how I will cope with no sleep and no lazy sundays - but it will be worth it to have a baby . Has anyone ever thought what it will be like to have teenagers? I only think about having a baby - I don't even go as far as imagining a toddler never mind a grumpy 13 year old!

Kensgirl - Glad you had a fun holiday and sorry to hear your AF arrived - hope you're DH hits the target (so to speak) the day before he leaves and the day he gets back

MT sounds like you've been having fun - unassisted sandcastles is very impressive - also hope you manage to seduce DH this week - let us know how you get on

Nomore - how's your bonging going - are you in the 2ww yet?

Ready How are you at the moment? Any signs of ov this month yet?

Hello everyone else..

this has been in my drafts all morning now so I'm just going to submit it!

toomuchtimeonline · 29/08/2007 11:30

Sorry MT - cross posted as hadn't refreshed the screen in hours!

How's you?

mistlethrush · 29/08/2007 11:42

I'm fine, although a bit tired (emergency screaming in early hours - probably bad dream, didn't like to ask as this just clarifies what's woken him up... did get back to sleep, but not settled for rest of night). Looking forward to the time when he is able to pull down (and up) his own pants so that he can go and sit on his potty when he needs to without necessarily getting help. You do get used to sleep deprivation. I am also quite good at cat naps, quite often at the kitchen table - skill honed during pregnancy when I had to leave 30mins early for meetings so that I could pull off the road at some stage and have a quick z.

I think that the worst thing is an inability to get anything done consistently. Ds is quite demanding on time and attention (which is fair enough, don't want to just plonk him in front of TV, so what do I expect...) which means that, most weekends, one or other of us is 'on duty' most of the time. Dh is doing OU course - which means that I'm on duty, so can't mow the lawn, do the gardening, clean the house etc. Although ds does like helping with the washing, so can at least manage to get that sorted out.

toomuchtimeonline · 29/08/2007 12:09

Emergency screaming sounds bad

Glad he's a new man and likes washing up though

mistlethrush · 29/08/2007 12:17

Yes, not great being wrenched from sleep at goodness knows what time in the morning to complete panic in next door room... At least the mornings are nicer now he's in a big bed and has discovered that he can get out, let himself out of his room and come and bang on our bedroom door - hugely preferable to crying to be taken out of cot. Although we do keep on forgetting to put the stair gate at the top of the stairs closed, so, if I didn't wake up when he got out of bed and opened the door (quite quietly, I must say), goodness knows what he might get up to if he felt like it.

He quite likes helping in the garden too - which is more than can be said for dh really. I even have to do the lawn.

scorpio1 · 29/08/2007 14:08
