After all that desert sand, we are in serious need of slightly damper place...

This one is a hamam, complete with essential oils and thick Turkish towelling bath sheets. Mosaics on the floors, marble pools. You get the picture. It still needs some decorating though.

We have had a few graduates (OK, quite a few), which is good, but time to dust off the old Hut for those of us who are still barren.

Oooh Lissie, that sounds like a brilliant idea and yes, please. Ta muchly.

lissie · 13/06/2007 10:01

found it, do you want me to email it to you (dont have CAT) or post it on here?

lissie · 13/06/2007 10:10

? What tests will you be doing
? What kind of timescale are we looking at
? what the are the stats for the chances of a natural conception given my situation ?
? depending on that - what can they do to help you improve these stats and how soon can they start/I start.
? What care are they going to offer me given my medical history?
? and if they cant offer me the right care - who can?
? and again when?
? Have they identified the reasons for m/c and if not why not and
? when we conceive again what care will they offer me - weekly/daily scans?/bloodtests? so that they can identify any potential issues and sort asap.
? what they will do, what the alternatives are,
? types of medication?
? timescale for it all
? what sucess rate different procedures offered have
? what can be done about adhesions,
? what can be done about strep B in womb to maximise chances of IVF working
? If we go for a given option and it fails will that preclude other treatments being possible/offered

take out any qs that dont apply. HtH

Sorry had to do some work (). And this is great, thank you VERY much. Brilliant.

lissie · 13/06/2007 11:16

you may find it handy to take notes too. they give you so much info its tough to take in. and take dates of you cycles, and notes on any other therapies you are using. i was told to stop temping as it puts too much pressure on you.

oh, and ask about high dose folic acid, vit B6 and low dose asprin.

Soreheart · 13/06/2007 11:41

Can you come with me??? Consultant patient! Have just had a call from his secretary asking questions about my visit as he has a 2/3 month waiting list if I ask to postpone. Incredible. I'll be 43 then and post past it for IVF! So, I think I'd better go, don't you. Jeez.

Soreheart · 13/06/2007 11:44

DP really needs to have been for another test. He leaves all this stuff to me. Abdicating responsibility and I find it so hard to keep mentioning it. I've been a bit of an idiot, I know. I should just go for the full-on nag and just get it sorted.

scorpio1 · 13/06/2007 13:57

how is everyone? i'm not too bad today, apartfrom the act that EVERY bugger is pg....

lissie · 13/06/2007 14:24

hi scorpio! whats happened?

soreheart. wish i could but think im too far away. remind dh that this is his life too. mines exactly the same. has been putting off w*nking into a pot for months coz he's worried, while on monday i had a bucketload of dye shoved up my cervix/womb/tube via a catheter in my fango in front of 5 strangers. i know which i'd rather do!

scorpio1 · 13/06/2007 14:26

oh lissie, hi no nothing specific has happened, jus tactually realised how many pg people i know! am not feeling too many nasty feelings today though...maybe i should leave the hut??

how are you?

lissie · 13/06/2007 14:28

not too bad. think i may have ov'd already that would be 4 days early, but got distinctive ov pain so not sure whats happening.

scorpio1 · 13/06/2007 14:29

go and shag anyway

i dont really know what is going on with mine....

Soreheart · 13/06/2007 17:49

Argh, I wrote a nice long message but was not logged on and it'd disappeared.
So, Scorpio1, it's always the case that there are way too many pg people out there. They keep having sex, that's the thing. It should be rationed.
Lissie, I'm so glad my DP is not the only reluctant one out there. It gives me strength to just give him a time and a date that he has to be 'donating' and just get it sorted.
I will go to fertility expert tomorrow with questions - especially on what we need to be looking for on DPs fertility test so maybe we can read results at GPs without having to wait 3 months to see expert just to interpret results. i.e. what scores show reasonable levels of fertility.
I will be an expert eventually whether I like it or not.

duchesse · 14/06/2007 08:01

Bugger. day 1 again.

I'm going to need moral support if I'm going to make this month Proactive Seek Medical Assistance and Kick Them Up The Bum Month. I'm a bit chicken when it comes to arguing my corner. I'm more of a stiff upper lip "I'm all right!!!" type. Just ain't working though. Need to get my thyroid treated. It's now 4 years since I stopped contraception. This is just not funny.

OP posts:
lissie · 14/06/2007 09:55

oh duchesse, how utterly shit! they have to do something about this now.

soreheart, tbh its a relief to have someone else looking after your fertility. good luck for today let us know how you get on

Impatience · 14/06/2007 13:08

Yes, good luck today, Soreheart.

Duchesse, what do you need from us? We are Team Hut: Behind you in any corner. See another GP? Don't leave till they agree to write the letter. Sit there and say it's time you saw a fertility specialist: It's been 4 years TTC. They can't dispute that. Stick to the facts. Say you need your thyroid sorted out for it's own sake, and you need to get it balanced before any fertility treatment starts. Just sit there and keep coming back to the facts if they start waffling off topic. I'm sure once you've run over your allocated 3mins they'll start getting rather keen to get you out, and that means writing the letters for referral. I guess you need an endocrinologist for thyroid, and the fertility one. The GP isn't going to be able to do much for you anyway, you just need those letters of referral.

The south west is far too far for me to pop down, but if you like you can imagine me standing behind you with a 'do as she says' fierce look on my face. I can be quite scary, especially when I'm tired and things aren't going how I'd like them. So that's all the time ATM!

beansprout · 14/06/2007 13:20

Duchesse - so sorry you are on CD1. I like the team hut notion. It's been suggested to me before now to imagine that you are taking a group of people in there with you, who are right there behind you. What would you be able to say if we were all standing right there with you?

Hello to everyone else. I'm sorry it's so difficult. I'll leave a pile of chocolate and booze on my way out.

Impatience · 14/06/2007 13:23

How are you doing, sprouting-sprout?!

beansprout · 14/06/2007 13:27

I'm ok thanks Impy, so far so good. Miss you lot though. A lot.

Impatience · 14/06/2007 13:50

Why, too chirpy and upbeat on the preg threads?

(Pah, can't think why, lucky devils)

scorpio1 · 14/06/2007 13:52

x 1 000 000 000 000

beansprout, glad you're doing ok

Soreheart · 14/06/2007 15:39

Ferty McExpert advises that I get used to the idea that it's just too late, regardless or sperm quality, I'm too old. He now advises a 1 in 5 chance with IVF. So the implication is that it's just not going to happen. I'm sure it's based on loads of Empirical data and experience but it's not really what I want to know.
Duchesse, you MUST press on and not be stoic in any way. You have age on your side so maximise this NOW before you get the same story I've just been told.
Did I miss Beansprouts good news? I feel very pleased and very heart-heavy all at the same time. Good luck - make it stick!

Soreheart · 14/06/2007 15:42

Like the idea of Team Hut going into together, very much!
With that kind of positive intention, perhaps we could simply create good quality ovum (is this the fertilised egg??) by ourselves?
What a very good idea.

lissie · 14/06/2007 15:43

oh soreheart, will they do any tests? can you get a second opinion?

btw, miss you beansprout.

Soreheart · 14/06/2007 15:52

Happy to do more sperm tests and do the dye test on me to ensure clear tubes (whatever that's called) but there doesn't seem to be any reason to do anything else. Age is the real issue against fertility and there's nothing they can do about that.
I asked about extra Folic acid and B6 but he wasn't particularly enthusiastic.
Pooooooff.
