My scan showed that my level of amniotic fluid is a bit low. They've booked me in with a specialist consultant on Saturday who will do a more thorough scan of the placenta, fluid, blood flow etc. All I can do between now and then is try not to worry!

My fab GP has done a throat swab and ordered more blood tests to try and establish what's wrong with me.

So I'm being well looked after at least! My GP and the antenatal team at the hospital are all lovely and proactive. I feel very lucky to be under their care.

pickle162 · 16/01/2017 17:07

Oh shoes my lovely I hope everything turns out ok! Saturday seems ages away but try not to worry (too much) until you know more. Sending lots of love xx

Latenightreader · 16/01/2017 17:15

Oh shoes, will be thinking of you.

kwick · 16/01/2017 17:39

shoes what an awfully long wait. I really hope you are both fine - glad that you are being monitored. Flowers are you working this week? Anything you can do to not think so much about it?

I did not have a hycosy - probably for same reasons... do not recall really discussing with first consultant - until new consultant said it would be a good idea to do - I did this after IVF and before natural IUI, I got BFP with next round of IUI that was medicated. Wish I had done it way back when as even as there were no problems I believe in the post fertility boost it can give Smile

Had a schnooze on way out and just woke up from schnooze now... I WANT MY BED!! But first I want some food. Lunch was a buffet affair full of rare beef, soft cheese, rare tuna and cured meats: ALL FORBIDDEN!!!!

Oooh can I join too? I'm 32, single, and planning to start TTC in a few months. I've chosen and visited a clinic, visiting my GP on Saturday to discuss referral. Still lots of decisions to make around choosing a sperm bank/donor.

I'm nervous but excited! It's quite an emotional rollercoaster and I've not even started TTC yet :) It's so nice to see other women in the same boat and know I'm not alone in making this decision. I'm totally confident it's the right decision for me :) I've started a blog where I've been writing about it, I could share if anyone is interested (and I feel brave enough!)

Hello everyone!

INeedNewShoes · 16/01/2017 18:15

Welcome to the thread Snork Smile

Thanks for your support Pickle Late and Kwick. Saturday does feel like an impossibly long time away but they deliberately wanted a gap of a few days so that they can see if there is any change over that time. All I can do between now and then is try to remain positive.

I am working this week but working from home so as to not overdo it. (My commute to the new London office is 1hr45mins each way now which seems like a daft thing to do in my current state.)

On the subject of hycosy, my clinic strongly recommended I have one because before my first IUI (and I knew it wasn't to get more money out of me because I had the hycosy in the UK so the clinic stood to make nothing out of it). Although the hycosy costs around £400, if your tubes are blocked then every IUI attempt is far more money down the drain with no chance of success. Also the stats that show that women have a slightly raised chance of conceiving during the three cycles following a hycosy also point to it being worthwhile. Its also a good opportunity for speculum practice before the IUIs start Smile

Kwick - sounds like an amazing buffet - for anyone that's not pregnant! I hope you find something nice for your dinner!

CautionHormone · 16/01/2017 18:23

Oh Shoes, I'm sorry to hear that. What could that mean? I'm sure it's going to be nothing to worry about, but that's easier said than done! Try & remain positive, like you said, & try & keep yourself busy but in the safest/best ways possible. I'm glad your GP is doing more tests too & that you're being well looked after. Thinking of you Flowers

Welcome Snork :)
Sounds like you're ready to get the ball rolling. If you feel brave enough, I'd like to read your blog! That's such a good way of keeping a record of everything that's happened :)

Pez82 · 16/01/2017 18:39

shoes, I can only echo the rest of the thread and hope Saturday comes quick. It's comforting to see you are well all looked after by the doctors. Is there any way you can avoid that journey into London?

Welcome snork! The more time I spend reading our messages the more I realise how strong women are - it's empowering really!!

So on the topic of the hycosy, I had one too. I am 34, no known issues or previous STDs but like Shoes I didn't feel comfortable to spend lots of money on IUI cycles before checking my tubes were open. At least if they know one tube is blocked they can work around the other and skip a cycle if you're ovulating from the wrong side.

kwick, I feel your pain seeing all this yummy food you couldn't have today. I actually have started to be careful myself as I've decided I'm pregnant until proven otherwise!! This is my version of PMA Wink

StorkAhoy · 16/01/2017 19:06

Bravo late those access deals are good value, I did that too. And March? That means you might be cycle buddies with me and pickle!

StorkAhoy · 16/01/2017 19:11

Welcome snork! Do you need a GP referral if you are paying? My clinic didn't need one, so tell us all!

shoes oh blimey, I didn't even know that was a thing! How many weeks are you now? Fingers crossed all is well!

pickle162 · 16/01/2017 19:12

Welcome snork good luck on your journey :) would love to read your blog.ps love your name, was a big moomin fan back in the day :) roughly same age too :)
Darn it with the lack of food kwick I'm glad I looked up about food as I like pate (although don't eat it often) but it's high in vitamin a which apparently isn't good-knew shouldn't have when preg but hadn't thought about when tcc

The consultant I saw just said hycosy would be a waste of money and risk of infection or damage to tubes so best avoided unless necessary so gonna go with the flow and re-review if needed.
Going to ring tomorrow morning if brave enough 😬

pickle162 · 16/01/2017 19:13

....the clinic that is to book the nurses and counsellors appointment. I hate ringing people 😫

kwick · 16/01/2017 19:21

Welcome snork!!!

shoes I am glad you do not have that CRAZY commute to deal with. Try and have lie ins and early nights. Flowers

I got a fish pie for dinner - second tome I have eaten one of these - last Monday was first time!!! I am making a concerted effort to eat more fish.

pez you are indeed PUPO!!!!

Hi everyone Grin

kwick mentioned this thread on another I am on, so here I am! DP and I are a lesbian couple, currently TTC #1. DP is the one having the treatment (I had uterine cancer in 2014, so had to have a hysterectomy). So far, we have had 5 cycles of unmedicated IUI:

Cycles 1 & 2: BFN
Cycle 3: BFP but low HCG; turned out to be ectopic at 7 weeks Sad
Cycle 4: BFN
Cycle 5: currently on day 3 of 2ww

We are having our treatment at Create in St Paul's - it's not that close to home for us, but we're happy with them. We're using sperm from their in-house stocks (they buy it in from Cryos).

If the current cycle doesn't work, we will have 1 more IUI attempt. After that, we have been advised to try IVF (no apparent problems with DP - clear tubes, good ovarian reserve etc) but our consultant thinks if IUI hasn't worked after 6 tries then it won't.

Oh, and I am 31 and DP is 33. Lovely to 'meet' you all Smile

kwick · 16/01/2017 20:07

I feel honoured you took my advice miri Grin
IVF I guess is more of a "sure thing" than IUI as they transfer an embryo but it is so much more invasive and costly. That said if you do repeated failed IUIs it ends up costing the same!
The ectopic proves that a BFP is possible - although what an awful thing to go through Flowers
Are you always using the same donor? Maybe worth switching up?

Have my scan tomorrow and just in case it is bad news, I just want to say that today I am 6 weeks and 2 days pregnant. Grin

Indeed Kwick Smile

I hope you see a little bean on the screen and that all is well Smile

pickle162 · 16/01/2017 20:30

What time is your scan kwick hope with all
My bones that everything is ok
Welcome miri

Ooh so many newcomers this January :) welcome everyone

hopingandwaiting · 16/01/2017 20:35

Will be thinking of you tomorrow kwick x

Nice to see all the newcomers to the thread - it shows just how many people are going through similar things and it's so good to have the support of other people.

Shoes - as hard as it is, try to relax and know that if they were truly concerned that there would be no way they'd let you wait until Saturday. I had a scan to measure baby and the dopplers to check fluid and placenta on Thursday as little one has stopped growing - back tomorrow for another one and chat about possible induction (39+2, so not too early thankfully, though I'd rather not have one). Just keep an eye on movement and call if you are concerned about anything at all.

Pez I also cut out all non pregnancy foods in the TWW. Nearly 40 weeks later and you have NO idea how much I want a runny egg, brie and a can of coke!! Good luck with it all - sending positive pregnancy thoughts x

Pez82 · 16/01/2017 20:39

Hi miri, how funny, I'm also on day 3 post IUI and using Create St. Paul's! I had mine on Friday at 2.30pm and I know there was just another one booked the same afternoon, it must have been you and your DP!!!??

MiriAmmerman · 16/01/2017 21:14

Haha Pez it must have been us - our appt was at 12.30, but they were a bit delayed so we went into theatre more like 1.45. How funny! Fingers crossed Friday 13th will turn out to have been a luck day for all of us...

kwick we are very fickle with our donors - we used different ones for cycles 1, 2, and 3. We then planned to keep using Mr Cycle 3 as he actually got DP pregnant, but he has been 'blocked' as he has fathered a baby with significant disabilities. The baby is undergoing tests ATM to determine whether or not the sperm donor's genetics played a role; until then, he's off limits. So, we chose someone else and have used him for cycles 4 and 5 - if it's a BFN this time, we'll probably change again Grin The clinic embryologist must think we're batshit - we've completed matching forms for most of the male population! TBH, the longer this goes on, the less fussy we're getting re: donor characteristics. Virile is now my sole requirement!

pickle162 · 16/01/2017 21:21

Ooh small world ladies :)

Pez82 · 16/01/2017 21:29

Indeed! Mine was booked for 2pm and they said they were just doing another IUI and then I was next - it was definitely you!

Aside from IUI being on Friday 13th I haven't told you ladies but I put the date in the due date calculator and it gave me my birthday!!!! That has to be a sign, right?

I didn't realise they were importing the sperm from Cryos... I'm using ESB, they have a deal with them and I only pay €100 for shipping.

pickle162 · 16/01/2017 21:41

Oooh wow that's so cool pez ! I have to admit this is why I wanted to get preg in may so it may have a similar birthday to me as I love having a Feb birthday
