This thread is for anyone trying to conceive... or thinking about doing so through donor IUI or donor IVF. Nothing TMI - feel free to join, we are a lovely group here to support and help keep the cray-cray away!

Ooh I'm definitely going to have a look on catch up kwick to see if I can find it. Any Dr motivation would be very much appreciated at the moment! Grin but you're right - iced buns are definitely not a carb Wink
Good luck with your day trip to Brussels tomorrow

Ah that's great pez!! I'm sure your body is reacting fine, positive thoughts to your womb is always great. I've heard that visualising conception can something be handy?!
Aw that's lovely about your friends. It's nice they feel they can come to you in dire times... Do they not know about you TTC?

pickle I have to say I'm the same with notebooks and brochures. It's good to be organised!

CautionHormone · 15/01/2017 17:51

Kwick I'm 15 mins into How To Lose Weight Well and I'm hooked! I think I'm going to try the Military diet this week - you can lose up to 10lb in a week, and that's more than what I need to lose - I'll be well away if I can do that!!

And Dr Xand is hot! Blush

Pez82 · 15/01/2017 18:09

Thanks caution, no not many of my friends know about it and in my family only my parents, my gran, my brother and sister-in-law. I also have lots of paperwork with the clinic logo and some pregnancy magazines lying around Smile

Good luck with the diet but don't do anything too extreme! And make sure you empty your bladder before they put you on the scales at your appointment Wink

HopingForALittleOne · 15/01/2017 18:11

pez not sure if helpful or not but I googled videos of conception so I knew what I was visualising when the time comes, there are some good short videos that come up that are on YouTube.

I'm like you guys I have pee
Sticks aplenty in box in my loo, my little glass jar, a notepad with pee sticks stuck into it ( so I can track as it gets darker each day) and my FC folder on the table. I'm also glad you mentioned you have bought things as I thought I was a sad crazy lady! I have a beautiful little jump suit and a collection of Beatrix potter books

Hope tomorrow goes quick for you kwick X

CautionHormone · 15/01/2017 18:48

That's fair enough pez - not many people in my life know about what I plan to do either!
I'm yet to buy magazines - I don't want to feel like a crazy broody lady on top of everything else Blush is it only the weekend your friends will be staying?

Thank you, it's not as extreme as it sounds.. You fast for three days (eating up to 1,000 calories) and then on the remaining four days, you eat up to 1,500 calories. There's meal plans and things online so I'll just follow them Smile

Hoping, you're most definitely not a sad crazy lady! We're all the same here and all do the same, it's about being organised Wink

Pez82 · 15/01/2017 22:11

Thanks hoping, I did do that this morning and found some lovely videos Smile

INeedNewShoes · 15/01/2017 22:18

Just watch the start of Look Who's Talking... pretty much covers it Wink

But the bit later on in the film where the friend thinks that the sex of the baby can be influenced by what the mum-to-be eats is most definitely outdated advice so take no notice of that bit Smile

tygr · 15/01/2017 22:24

Hi

Can I join? About to turn 40, single, and think I need to make this happen now (or never).

Looking to learn as much as poss.

StorkAhoy · 15/01/2017 22:32

Welcome tygr, you've come to the right place!

Look at the first page of this thread to catch up on who we are, but most of us are single or in same sex relationships, and all using donor something to aid our conception.

Ask away!

Perhaps you could tell us how far along this journey you are? Do you have a fertility clinic or have you just decided to start ttc?

tygr · 15/01/2017 22:40

Totally brand new to it. Has been on my mind as an option for several years and every now and then I look at sperm donors online (like last night) but I don't have a clinic yet or know what the best option for me is.

I started my own thread and someone suggested booking into an open day at a clinic so I might do that to find out more.

Pez82 · 15/01/2017 23:01

I'll look for it shoes, thanks for this

Welcome tygr! this is how I started, by researching clinics online and attending an open day. Good luck with the start of your journey, we're here to help!

Pez82 · 15/01/2017 23:03

And yes caution, they're only staying for the weekend

Right, I'm off to bed, socks on and hot water bottle on my feet Smile

tygr · 15/01/2017 23:25

Thanks Pez

It's exciting. Feels like I have something positive to focus on after years of head in the sand hoping it might somehow 'just happen'.

kwick · 16/01/2017 07:04

What exactly are the magazines that should be purchased? Confused

Welcome tygr!!!
I too started my journey by looking online and then attending a couple of clinic sessions... in the end I opted for the clinic my cousin had used and one I did not visit!!! The HEFA website can be helpful.
Any questions just ask Grin

Completely shattered - not up to early mornings anymore! - am on Eurostar on way to Brussels... hope I can get some shut eye 😴

Welcome tygr

I went to londons women clinic for a seminar thing about donor iui was really informative and have been with these girlies on here for about 15months but have been learning and saving but would have done earlier if hadn't needed to do stuff to the house and have surgery so needed to save.
But I had my 1st appointment on Friday so things are finally happening. Hope to have my first medicated iui beginning of march :)

Best place to start, start looking up clinics in your areas, -I did a free 1-2-1 at my clinic where u get shown round and have a chat with non medical person for about 20mins. I loved my clinic straight away but worth visiting a few and look up how prices vary.
Whereabouts in the country are you?(vague area u don't have to say where you live)

Monday again 😫Why?!?!??!!

INeedNewShoes · 16/01/2017 07:25

Welcome tygr Smile

I'd second the suggestion to start finding your nearest clinics and look up their prices and success rates.

I went abroad for my treatment, but this only really worked for me because I am only employed three days per week (I run my own business the rest of the time) and have a supportive boss who afforded me the flexibility to swap my days around in order to facilitate my visits to the clinic.

I'd also suggest, when you have a few hours to spare, following the links in the opening post of this thread to take you to the two previous threads. There has been a lot of useful advice and discussion in those threads (as well as a lot of irrelevant chatter Wink) and it would be a good place to start and may answer a lot of the questions you might have.

kwick - I hope your day goes quickly and that you're at home in bed before you know it!

I'm feeling sorry for myself. I have now been ill for ten days. Back to the GP this morning! Baby doesn't like it either and has gone quiet so the antenatal unit want to scan me this morning.

INeedNewShoes · 16/01/2017 07:26

Pickle - I keep meaning to ask, then forgetting to... have you had a hycosy/HSG?

Pez82 · 16/01/2017 08:45

shoes, so sorry to hear you're still feeling poorly. I'm sure the scan will confirm that baby is ok, look after yourself

kwick, I couldn't resist a couple of months ago while I was back home and bought a couple of maternity magazines; there was a special edition at the time which covers all aspects from birth to one year old. They're in French but I'm sure there are plenty of equivalents here; they compare products, talk about breastfeeding etc. A nice read for your train journeys!

pickle162 · 16/01/2017 08:47

shoes the consultant recommended not to have the hycosy as said there was a 98%chance they were fine as never been pregnant and no sti's and my age so to save my money so listening to his advice, he's been doing this longer than I've been alive :)

HopingForALittleOne · 16/01/2017 09:29

Welcome tygr that might have been me who recommended an open day at clinic to give you idea of options?

I've found this group really helpful, supportive and great to get advice from people going through the same thing. I'm 34 but I have been thinking about this since I was 31. I joined mumsnet and went to LWC open day in October and I will start my first natural iui in about two weeks X

HopingForALittleOne · 16/01/2017 09:30

puckle I didn't get hycosy for same reason/ advice X

HopingForALittleOne · 16/01/2017 09:30

I meant pickle in last post lol

Latenightreader · 16/01/2017 14:48

I also didn't have a hycosy for the same reasons.

I've just signed up for a two cycle programme of ICSI via Access Fertility! I'll probably be starting in March. The next thing is to pay (gulp) and have the lessons on injecting the drugs! Isn't it amazing how much lighter making a decision can make you feel?

CautionHormone · 16/01/2017 15:03

Welcome tygr Smile
I pretty much second everything everybody else has been saying. Researching clinics in your area is a really good thing to do, and I'd recommend writing everything down if you can too, as it always makes more sense on paper!

Shoes I'm sorry to hear you're poorly Sad I'm sure your scans going to be fine; let us know?

Hoping that's great! March isn't too far away and you can be cycle buddies with pickle & stork Wink

CautionHormone · 16/01/2017 15:03

Oops I meant tygr. No idea why I put it in italics Hmm
