This is a thread for ladies who have been ttc longer than 10 months who have started the ball rolling with tests and treatments. We are all here to support each other though these darker days to the baby shaped light at the end of the tunnel!

Hello All

I'm very late to this thread but reading it has made me realise that if I belong anywhere it's here - if you'll have me?

The stats:
Me: 37, Him 42
Came off BC 2 years ago. TTc No. 1.
Nothing so far. DH had urology surgery this summer and has been referred for sperm tests but didn't notice that the date clashed with a work thing and now those tests have been rescheduled from today til late November (Gah! Why did he not notice this sooner?). I've had no tests yet as OPKs seem to show everything working and I don't want to have tests until we know that he's OK, as I'm aware the rest of the hard work will be mine so he may as well have the first go!

I was made redundant a year ago, still struggling to get work. I have just had a fight on the phone with my mother who loves a bit of negative drama and who was just calling to say that my 99 year old grandma has fallen and cracked a rib, and to ask exactly how bad my work situation is. When I asked not to talk about it she put the phone down. So I can't really tell her about TTC as well. Nor can I tell her I'm waiting to hear if I've got a job 500 miles away from home which would help us financially but be problematic to say the least in all other areas of life. So that's going round my head a bit....

I'm just a few days into the 2ww. Second day in a row reading forums. I feel I am going to have to surrender to it all or I really will go mad. Because I'm thinking, oooh, irrationality and overly emotional, that's a sign, isn't it? Sigh. I think it may be a very long 2w, in every respect....

xBlueberry88x · 24/09/2014 15:56

Welcome View

Have you been ttc since you came off BC??

I would start your checks as soon as possible because it takes such a long time to get through.

So far its taken me about 8 months and I dont know what the problem is yet.

Also when you get put through to gynae if there is a significant time frame between your DH's checks and yours he may have to have his again anyway.

You also might find theres a problem with you both or neither of you its hard to tell until all the tests have been carried out.

lildottie · 24/09/2014 17:02

hi view I agree with blue the checks take ages so I'd get them underway. we saw doc Jan, had bloods for me and sa for dh Jan/Feb then referred and waited until April to see nurse at clinic. had more tests for me (us/hsg) before finally seeing consultant July. been waiting to go back since and finally have appt 8th Oct. plus if its you and something simple to fix then you'll kick yourself for not getting tested sooner.

also opks don't confirm ovulation, just LH surge. other than blood tests only way to confirm ov is temping.

fx Vic and Lindsay

blue I swear our men think we should resort to immaculate conception sometimes!

victoria401 · 24/09/2014 19:18

Hi girls

Sorry about the bfn Lindsay :-( I wonder what's happened this cycle?

Welcome view. I agree u should get the tests moving as they do take months! Though they should rush things forward due to you being over 35. We've been having tests since February and still no diagnosis!

I guess I should inform you of the latest. Not sure if cd32 or cd1! Spotting and cramps. Not checked lots today as can't afford to pop into public loos abroad all the time! Started to spot about 11am and popped in a regular. Only took it out 7pm and just a bit on the end, tmi! Post again tomorrow. 16dpo btw.

Thank you Blue, Lildottie and Victoria - that's good advice that only those of you who've been there can give! I'll get myself booked in for the 21 day blood test that the GP mentioned then. DH's SA isn't due til late November but the length of time it's taken to get that appointment proves I suppose how slowly it can all take down here. I'll call the GP's tomorrow and get that booked in. Scary stuff...

victoria401 · 24/09/2014 21:55

Oh just noticed! lil we also have consultant appointment October 8th! We can compare notes afterwards!

Lauraqc · 24/09/2014 22:30

Welcome View happy to have you in the circumstances..! Defo get going on tests as it does all take a while!

Vic I'm hoping the time away has worked wonders for you :)

Most of us appear to have partners who aren't as fussed as us about it all - I've come to the conclusion it's a boy thing and there's other little ways I know he's worried about it all...

I feel like crap tonight with the start of a cold or something, upset tum and been sick tonight. Joy. Dtd will have to take a raincheck tonight I think! Will do some competitions instead (oh and chit chat on here)!

victoria401 · 25/09/2014 06:57

Hope you feel better soon Laura

Full blown af for me this morning with lots of pain waking me up before our breakfast alarm :-( Just filled my face with pills so I'll be ok to face the day. Gonna be wet and only 17 degrees here in Croatia today. No idea what to do!

OP posts:
Lauraqc · 25/09/2014 08:26

Argh Vic that sucks sorry to hear that. Sounds like a day for drinking games in the bar to me....

Lindsay81 · 25/09/2014 08:40

AF must've made a mad dash over to Croatia after visiting me late last night victoria! :-(

Hi view :) I'm 16months actively TTC and can also vouch for how long the tests take. We started in Jan and have had my bloods (twice), DHs SA and our first fertility appointment. My ultrasound and HSG are over the next couple of weeks. I'm hoping I'll have some plan of action before Christmas.

Metalhead · 25/09/2014 13:12

Just popping in to say sorry about AF vic, I hope you feel better as the day goes on. Also hoping you're feeling better today laura, I think I'm coming down with a cold too, just in time for the weekend...

Lauraqc · 25/09/2014 13:47

Argh Lindsay was really rooting for you then! Sorry to hear that.

Luckily I'm off work tomorrow so looking forward to having a chill out day and a bit of a mooch up the shops. Hope you feel better too Metal!

Nonconformist34 · 25/09/2014 14:59

Vic and Lindsay Sorry AF got you,it really sucks.

View Welcome, I'm sure you'll get loads of good advice and help here.

I've just had my HSG done today. Everything went well, only a bit niggly now but easier than period cramps! The only thing that was picked up was that my uterus is tilted quite a but to the left so they found it hard to clamp it open as it kept slipping off which hurt me more! They said that this tilt was within normal range and everything else was perfectly normal. The staff were all lovely and very professional.

They are sending me out an appointment which should be within a few weeks to discuss starting treatment!

I've obviously googled ttc with uterus tilts, the jury's out on whether it affects ttc or not. One tip I've picked up is to lie on my right to counterbalance the tilt post ttc. Worth a try as I often favour my left side post legs up in the air! I better get cracking now with DH.............

Viewofhedges · 25/09/2014 16:55

Hello everyone
Thanks to your advice I've bitten the bullet and booked in for blood test number 1 on Monday. That will be 22 days on a 29 day cycle (as instructed by Mr GP) so I hope it'll do... I really did have no idea that these tests can take the best part of a year! So thanks all. I'm really glad I posted on here as I could have waited for a lot longer...

victoria401 · 25/09/2014 17:05

HSG booked for next Thursday! Felt a bit weird phoning to book it from holiday!

Got the boat into the main town today where it proceeded to chuck it down and we had to retreat into a bar and drink wine! Just got back to the hotel, still feels like I'm on a boat tho! Wheeeeeee!

Viewofhedges · 25/09/2014 17:28

Victoria, we were on holiday last week, on our last day it completely tipped it down all day. Lots of time for ahem activity though but wrong week of course! The wine drinking sounds very good. I have just looked up what an HSG is and have instinctively crossed my legs.

cooperG · 25/09/2014 17:45

Hi guys, sorry af got you vic and lindsay :(
Glad the hsg went well non
Welcome hedges, hope you don't end up spending too long in here with us!

I am being organised, I dug out last years' diary with all of my appointment dates and notes in it, and I have bought a shiny new hard backed notebook from paperchase, and I am going to write everything down ever so neatly, in chronological order, ready for my next appointment on 9th oct. I'm going to write my questions down and take it to all future appointments with me, because every time I go to an app I seem to forget to ask at least one vital question - not any more! I mean business!
Ok, back to not obsessing...

xBlueberry88x · 25/09/2014 19:17

Evening ladies

Had my second gynae app today.

Turns out that even though im getting positive opks my LH was pretty low or as they say equivocal.

So he gave me two options either i wait another month and try and loose more weight or take clomid.

I said to him i couldn't stand waiting so ive got 6 months worth of clomid to take from days 2 to 6. I will get a scan 13 days after to see what my eggs are doing and see if the dose it enough.

Pretty sad to be honest and me and dp have been arguing loads last few days the stress has finally got to him and im pretty depressed to be honest. We only dtd once on positive opk day and none after so pretty sure this month is a no go.

Sorry for the me post hope every one is ok.

GingerbreadHead · 25/09/2014 21:00

Blue that is an amazing result! Obviously not so good that your LH is low, but amazing that they have given you clomid, everything crossed for you that it works. Try not to get your hopes up immediately though, I have heard it can take 2 to 3 months to get going, but hopefully within 6 months you will have a BFP! Sorry that you are feeling sad, but try to see this as a very positive step forward, they have found an issue with you and given you something to fix it, so this could be it for you!

cooper I love the idea of buying a new diary, esp from paperchase Grin my ttc diary has run out, (weird diary that ended in august) and I keep meaning to get a new one, sounds like a good idea to keep a track of everything you have had done and any questions you have.

vic sorry AF got you on holiday, lindsey too, but at least you were able to spend a rainy day productively drinking! Fab news about your hsg next week.

non glad it went well at your app today, interesting about the tilt, let's hope that is the problem for you and it can be easily fixed by changing position. I remember mama saying a while back they had told her hers was tilted and she should dtd doggy style and lie on her front after dtd.

Laura sorry you're not feeling too good, it's getting to that time of year isn't it! Hope you win lots of money on a competition, and share it all with us of course Wink

View welcome to the thread. You've already made some progress with appointments but I would just repeat that definately get things going as soon as you can! I have been waiting 6months just for a bloody gynae referral, and at this rate my day21 bloods and DHs SA will be out of date!

I have my ultrasound scan on monday, so hoping to get some answers from that. Still not doing too well with losing weight, we do eat healthily but it's just the blummin chocolate and cake I can't stop eating because I'm fed up. Have started up again taking Bvits and folic acid, and just bought some EPO but can't actually remember what that is meant to be good for... I have been feeding DH his vitamins and am going to drink raspberry leaf tea for the next two weeks before ov, and try and find a fertility acupuncturist. Also going to try and dtd as much as we possibly can, started yesterday on cd5 so will be burnt out by the end of this month!

Lauraqc · 25/09/2014 21:23

Evening all! Just read the last few posts and i have an overwhelming need to tell you all how inspiring and supportive you are! Girls - we could run the world with all the stuff we've got done recently!

Well done Cooper, Vic and View, for kick starting the next step, and Blue it's very exciting you've been given the Clomid and fx for you, try and be nice to each other....

Ginger great to hear the plan is in action...!

cooperG · 26/09/2014 19:21

Aw laura, your post made me a bit emotional! :)
Hope everyone's well Wine

victoria401 · 26/09/2014 20:34

Bit sad to be flying home tomorrow, was just starting to relax into the holiday :-( Back to work Monday, HSG Thursday followed by follow up with an actual fertility doctor Oct 8th! No rest for the wicked eh?

Great that you've got some meds blue. I hope things get better with DP. This stuff does put a strain on relationships. Me and dh have been at each other's throats lately too :-(

Viewofhedges · 26/09/2014 21:07

Hello all - firstly just to say thank you for the warm welcome I've had here. It definitely makes me feel both less alone and slightly less crazy in such good company! I have a question though - Ginger, you mentioned feeding DH his vitamins. What is he taking? I find worming the cat easier than getting a tablet into my DH but he has promised he will try - what's good?

Wishing everyone a good weekend. And while I'm too new to be qualified to give opinions - Blue, surely it's good news, as the others say? They would not prescribe if they didn't think it would help. I hope you're feeling brighter.
I swear I was followed round the supermarket this evening by a pregnant lady, it was like she looked at me and KNEW x

GingerbreadHead · 26/09/2014 22:34

Ahaha view! We do seem to attract them wherever we go! A month or so before DH had his SA I bought him some wellman conception vits, (I think that is what they're called) they're pretty hideous looking things, but I take one out of the packet and bring it to him with a glass of water after we have finished dinner Grin I guess I am lucky in that he is quite obliging with dtd when I ask (within reason!) and popping the pills. he used to take multi vits as a child so figured it's not going to do him any harm? he would definitely forget to take them though if I didn't bring them to him! He did stop taking them for a while after his SA was all normal, but he --I-- have decided he should start taking them again. Wow that was a very long winded answer sorry!

Sparrowlegs248 · 27/09/2014 20:12

Good evening ladies. I have very quickly scanned back - Vic I am so sorry AF got you, i was so hopeful for you.
