This is a thread for ladies who have been ttc longer than 10 months who have started the ball rolling with tests and treatments. We are all here to support each other though these darker days to the baby shaped light at the end of the tunnel!

Evening ladies,

Sorry about af and job hunting and stuff, I really hope there are some positive things happening for you all soon. Nothing going on with me really just checking in and catching up hope you're all having a nice weekend!

mommyhopeful10 · 14/09/2014 00:05

hello i'm new, and i want to seek your advise. I've had 2 miscarriages 1 was last march 2012 and then the other one was oct 2012, until now we've been trying but still no luck will i still have the chance of becoming a mom? i really appreciate you sharing your stories here it gives me hope.

victoria401 · 14/09/2014 10:06

Hi mommy welcome to our group. Sorry you've had a tough time ttc too. Have you been to your GP to ask for tests yet? Its been a long time since you last conceived and things could have changed with either you or your partner in that time that's stopping you conceiving sucessfully again. Might I ask how old you both are? The older we get the harder it becomes, I'm so worried about being the dreaded 35 next birthday! Us lot have had every test going between us so are a fountain of knowledge for you should you have anything specific to ask :-) best of luck x

Morning ladies, I'm back. Had a lovely weekend but definitely shouldn't have worried - af arrived last night at the airport BlushSad hope you all had a nice weekend? x

Lauraqc · 16/09/2014 08:15

Oh no Cooper what a shame :( hope you had a fabulous holiday though?

lildottie · 16/09/2014 11:17

Thanks cooper. hope holiday was great tho.

ladies I've just got my appointment letter through. 8th October, that's not long at all now. hooray! they've sent a massive booklet we have to go through and fill in and stiff we have to send back before appointment. I can give you all more details if you want once I've gone through it all with dh. so relieved to finally have a date.

maybug3 · 16/09/2014 13:22

Hi all.

Sorry for those whom the witch has visited Thanks.
Just back from my first appointment with the fertility team and I have to say it was good. She was pleased gp had already completed all the tests needed. Apart from her getting sidetracked with explaining all about clomid and how it might improve my hormone levels before I pointed out she might want to check dh sperm levels before she got to carried away!
Essentially dh has to go to his urology appointment at the end of October so they can discuss sperm retrieval options and then we can start ivf straight after!

In reality I'll be pleased to have started a cycle before Christmas!
Can't believe how quick it might all happen now!
Going to am open day at the local fertility clinic on 1st october so I can prepare myself a bit more.
It's all scary stuff now. ..Confused

Lauraqc · 16/09/2014 13:48

Brilliant news May, sh*t just got real!!!! Hopefully you feel like you've got an action plan and like you've got a bit more control back again!

Lil that's not long at all! Whoop!

I'm feeling positive today, this month WILL be the month!!!!

victoria401 · 16/09/2014 15:33

How exciting for you may!

Sorry af got you on your hol cooper, it will get me on mine next week too :-(

Good with the positivity Laura. Hope it rubs off on some of the more negative of us on here! I'm in a good mood coz of my hol now tho and I've packed most of the luggage now. Realised that I'd forgotten my swim suits but better now than when we get there! Roll on Saturday!

Great news re: the appointments ladies, exciting times ahead!

Can't believe it's still two days until my pelvic scan, time seems to be going soooo slowly this week...

cooperG · 16/09/2014 18:00

Thanks ladies, rubbish isn't it? Hmm holiday was fab though :)

lil, my next appointment's on 9th oct, I'm starting to get a bit scared to be honest.. Please do give us the details from the form when you're ready, I have no information, just the fact that dh urology appointment went well so next stage is "assisted reproduction" :(

Glad yours went well may but (hugs) re scary stuff.

Hope you're right laura! And no vic, think positive! Smile

Thursday will be here before you know it metal :)

Nonconformist34 · 16/09/2014 20:06

Hi everyone,

Just popping in to see how we're all getting on. Good to see things are moving for some and that we've got some positivity on here.

AF arrived on cue at the weekend combined with a cold so was feeling sorry for myself! On the positive, I'm booked on for my HSG next Thursday 25th so in a weird way, kind of looking forward to getting sorted. I'm hoping DH will get time off work otherwise I'll be on my lonesome. The fertility department said that they will tell me there and then what the next decision is, either a laparoscopy or starting IUI fingers crossed!

lildottie · 16/09/2014 21:11

Sorry about AF non Flowers and good luck for the hsg.

may glad appointment went well and you kept them on track!

vic it might not get you, you never know!

metal good luck for the scan

cooper I've started going through all the forms - I have to go on bcp the month before IVF treatment!!! lol! that will be weird

Ok so they've sent an information booklet explaining the treatment a bit more, some facts and figures about the treatment, the clinic, what might happen if certain things happen and stuff like that. I can't find the current version online but the outdated version is here slight risk of outing myself with that one but Devon is a big county and I like you ladies so...! I haven't checked what the differences are but the purple text on there is different on my newer one so not sure if that's the only thing.

They've also sent a booklet of which there are 2 copies - we complete both and give one to them and keep one. the booklet contains consent forms about egg collection, fertilisation, cryopreservation (freezing to you and me!). It also contains a HFEA CD form, one each of these and an MT form for dh like this and a WT form for me here

then there is a welfare of the child form for each of us like this

There is also supposed to be a patient information form but it's missing! I think it's like a medical history form for me that they need before the appointment so will be on the phone tomorrow!

Weird thing is they want copies of our passports! Mine is still in my maiden name so will also be phoning to ask if my drivers licence will do!

cooperG · 16/09/2014 21:46

Wow, thanks so much lil, that's a lot of information! (Yikes) am going to have a read now, probably give myself nightmares Confused

lildottie · 16/09/2014 22:44

no worries cooper, feel free to ask questions. there is so much to think about! I'm quite glad I have 3 weeks to mull it all over.

victoria401 · 17/09/2014 12:47

The problem with being back to undiagnosed is I'm bloody symptom spotting again!

OP posts:
GingerbreadBabyPlease · 17/09/2014 13:03

Ahh lil and may! How exciting! We finally have some real progress! Definately be seeing some 2015 babies then Grin

cooper bloody sorry about AF. at least the evil witch didn't get you in the midst of your holiday though.

non sorry also about AF, and cold, you poor thing. Good news about your hsg though, that is the magic one I am looking forward to, if nothing is revealed after that I feel like nothing more can be done Confused

I have FINALLY had an appt date through, going for an ultrasound scan on 29th Sept. It says they may do the dildo cam too if required, does anyone have much of an idea of what they will actually see/determine from the scan? Will it just be able to rule out PCOS and not much more? I rang to chase up the gynae appointment too but she said the waiting list has gone up to 26 weeks, not 22, I am currently on week 20. In the next breath she said I would get a letter 6 weeks before my appointment to ring and book one....err, 6 weeks before 26 weeks is 20 weeks right!!? Anyway, the appointment clerk is back from her hols next week so hopefully she will have more of a clue.

Also rang about private treatment, £180 for a 40 minute consultation 'chat'. Is it worth it do you think? or should I just wait until after my NHS gynae appt? I feel like it would be good to chat to a fertility specialist, but after scans we might have a clearer picture of what is going on......dilemnas!

vic SS is impossible to stop isn't it! Just try to think the best symptoms of pg are no symptoms at all, so it's not worth symptom spotting basically!

metal, guess your scan is today then? good luck with it, let us know how you get on and what they think is the next step.

Nonconformist34 · 17/09/2014 22:03

Hi Ginger,my advice would be to have your dildo cam first.I had mine done 2 weeks ago. It was absolutely fine, smears are so much worse! Politely ask the sonographer if they can talk it through with you when they can. They tell you there and then if there are any cysts they can see.I also asked if I had a tilted uterus and she said no. I would maybe wait until the appointment clerk is back to double check the wait before you book privately.Good luck with it all.My DH came in and was very good holding my knickers and the look on his face was priceless when he saw the size of the dildo cam Smile (they only put the top bit in you, although it was v funny that they put a condom over it with loads of lube causing me to leave a huge wet patch on the blue roll!!!!

victoria401 · 17/09/2014 22:10

Hi ginger. I think dildo cam does just look for PCOS. When they gave me another one at my clinic appointment I asked what the difference was. The nurse said she was looking at the shape and position of uterus and cervix and my ovaries compared to just looking for cystic structures at the first one. She told me that my uterus was fine, the tubes would show up if they were seriously blocked, and that my cervix was slightly tilted. She said if we went for iui to have a partially filled bladder on insertion of the sperm to adjust the cervix to normal. Maybe I should be doing that with sex?! Very odd! Also, if I were you I'd wait the few more weeks for your gynae app rather than forking out for the private consultant where he might tell you the same thing. What's 6 weeks if you've already done 20?! Hang in there. But boy does your area suck, what a massive wait. I may have been messed around but our waits between apponts have been good compared to some of the country!

lil I remember all those forms! Took ages to fill out!

Update metal! Hope you're ok x

Lauraqc · 17/09/2014 23:05

Hi Ginger, I had that cam when I also went for my scan last week - she mainly just looked at my ovaries to rule out PCOS. She said she could see the follicles on the scan so I take it that's a good thing that I have them!! I didn't ask about tilted womb or anything like that but I was just relieved there was no sign of PCOS...as for the private consult i'd wait til you've had the scans and then take it from there. Now we know there's no issue with me (except being overweight) we want to give it a damn good try for a couple of months before we embark on more investigations, altho I'm still having the day 21 and 25 bloods done and then DH is also going to have his second SA. At least we'll be able to take those results with us if and when we go private. Just ask for copies of everything!

I think I'm going to be inconsolable if af gets me at the end of this month - I really believe I'm going to have a June baby! All I can do is think positive and keep going at it like rabbits!!!!

lildottie · 18/09/2014 07:48

I think they use trans us to check for ov too as when I had mine it was not close enough to ov so they made me go back!

victoria401 · 18/09/2014 10:26

Oh, it was also in my notes (not told to me by the radiographer) that my ovary contained a corpus luteum so proved I'd ovd. It was day 21 I had the first one, but not on purpose!

Today's symptoms are cramps and I'm sure I can smell more intensely.... Stop doing this!!

OP posts:
victoria401 · 18/09/2014 10:29

Also to you bigger girls.... A lady got on my bus with her partner last night clutching a wad of hospital notes and a guide to pregnancy sticking out of her handbag. She was a big girl, so don't worry too much! X

OP posts:
Metalhead · 18/09/2014 13:49

Hi all, so I had my date with the dildo cam this morning and the ultrasound lady said everything looked normal. She measured my lining which was 5.3 mm, and although I'm still a bit concerned that that's on the low side she said it was normal for this stage of my cycle. (I've read it should be at least 6 mm right before ov, but as I'm still getting negative opks I guess it's still got a few days to grow.) She also said my ovaries had "a slight polycystic look" as there were multiple follicles growing, but again this could be normal and because I get a period every month she wouldn't be too concerned about it.

My mum also just phoned and said she'd spoken to my brother's girlfriend who's a gynaecologist about my fears regarding Ashermans syndrome. She said she's never seen a case in five years at her hospital, and that scarring would only develop if they scraped really deep into the muscle during the erpc.

So, although it all seems to be good news, I don't know how to feel tbh. I'm still thinking there must be something wrong, now I'm just not so sure what?! And I wish my ovaries would just hurry up and pop an egg now so I can get my day 21 test done!

Good luck with your scan Ginger, I'm glad you've finally got an appointment! As for going private, I'd probably wait until you've seen the NHS gynae, you've come so far now and waited so long for it! If you feel like they don't give you any answers or ways to go forward then you can still go private.

Hope everybody else is ok. x

Afternoon Ladies,

Good to see some appointments coming through and some of your moving forward.

Mommy Definitely get checked out its been a long time since your last pregnancy. Sorry I cant help any more ive never been pregnant but investigations will help you know more and tell you if you can do any more to help.

May wow I bet its good to have something to aim for. I had a conversation with my dp the other day about ivf and he said he didnt want to do it but he couldnt explain why, but if thats the only way we can have a baby its happening whether he likes it or not.
I hope we will be hearing about a bfp soon.

Non Id advise to have someone there at the HSG I was glad I asked my mum to go its quite a weird and emotional experience and kind of painful. Your not ment to drive after either.

Vicky no body can avoid symptom spotting I try my hardest every month not to but I still manage to depress myself

Ginger the dildo cam showed my uterus and ovaries (ovaries are more clear in HSG though) i think if theres anything abnormal it will show up though, I expect your next step will be HSG though.
I would also wait for the NHS once you get started it doesnt take to long.

Laura Ill be the same if AF arrives my birthday is in June so id love a June baby. Plus who wants to be heavily pregnant over summer lol.

Nothing much happening with me lots of dtd action as due to ovulate next couple of days. Doctor has put be on high iron tablets as im anemic due to my coeliac disease.
Getting more nervous for my gynae app next week hoping they didnt find anything bad in my blood tests and scans.
Feeling very down now we've reached 18 months of trying, fighting my hardest to be positive but its really hitting me hard!
