Please cheer me up with all the wonderful things to look forward to in Autumn.
I have had enough of heatwave after heatwave. Especially as a dog owner. Ive just stuck on Gilmore Girls as a means of escape!

So please join me here if you can't wait for Autumn and share any of your Autumn joys!

Put it in the Christmas section in the hope of finding my kinda people! I

I was thinking about starting a thread on this very topic this morning. I love Autumn. Tights, boots, cosy jumpers, feeling more 'put together' rather than wearing things just because they are floaty and cool, soups for lunch, slow cooker meals, candles, the weight of a blanket over my knees on the sofa while reading. There's so much to look forward too! Plus this year I start a big new job in Autumn and can leave my idiot boss behind so I have even more to look forward to

me me!!! this is me!!! i am looking forwards to tights, boots, cardigans, blankets, candles, dark evenings, leaves falling, soups, strictly, bake off......

it's my favourite season, and we will get there eventually!!

All of this! The only thing I miss is line-dried sheets and tomatoes out of the greenhouse 😊

someone needs to explain how Gilmore Girls fits in here. feel like i am massively missing on something Autumnal.

For some reason it seems to be permanently autumn in the town where it’s set. Apart from the odd occasion where it’s snowing

God i love auto correct 🤣🤣🤣🤣

So much so, I’m not even going to edit it. That’s made me chuckle.

birdysong · 29/07/2026 08:03

I may have to go the range this weekend to have a peruse! I may start planning mine and my girls winter wardrobe and maybe the dogs! Its going to be 31 degrees again today, agh!

Me, I love it, as soon as it hits 1st August that’s me in autumn mode, loving all the new autumn ranges in shops now

QuokkaCutie · 29/07/2026 11:34

I’m a real Autumn lover!🍁🍂

The hot weather is horrible ( only good for drying washing..) I’m fed up with it, the Ddog is always panting, bloody swarms of flies, wasps, bugs- 😱
I was helping my bestie buy clothes for an event yesterday, and her vibe was vey much “ will I sweat in it, it’s too heavy, it’s too warm to wear”

I love all the things mentioned in pp above, the cosy clothes, decent footwear, the air being fresh and sharp, the glorious sunsets, decent tv and reading, and the long Christmas countdown after Halloween and Bonfire Night.

I will finally be retiring in September, and can’t wait to have the time to “cosy-up” the house, I’ve already started moving furniture, and paint testing everywhere! I totally love Autumn, always have since I was little, it’s so much more interesting as a season, it has all the big celebrations and meet-ups in it, and nature is sooo beautiful, and changes almost daily.
Im a November baby, I wonder if that has a bearing on my love for the season?

QuokkaCutie · 29/07/2026 11:36

@Tillow4ever

Do you think they’d have a goat in my size?😁
Love auto-correct, always makes me laugh!

I’m sure they do lol! Someone else pointed out the auto correct fail last night - I decided it was funnier to let it stand and give others a smile too.

QuokkaCutie · 29/07/2026 11:38

Absolutely!! 🙌

Scorpion84 · 29/07/2026 11:40

Hi 👋🏼

autumn lover here and my birthday is 30th October which is perfect imo 😂

does anyone else find August really depressing? I don't know why but I just don't like it and count down til sep , think it's because I miss routine

flapjackfairy · 29/07/2026 12:21

I cant wait. I am counting the days until1st Sept. I love the BER months

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 29/07/2026 12:30

I think when the children start back at school in their new shoes, new uniform, brand new exercise books it just is an exciting time, back to the routine like @Scorpion84 says. My children dont even go to school but I confess I google to see when all my local schools are going back 😂. I remember Alvin, that money guy, used to say that was his financial sensitive spot as he associated September with new clothes and shoes even when he was an adult.

And the first time you open your front door and you can smell the….the mist? Cool air? What is it?

RCMN26 · 29/07/2026 12:31

Me OP, I’m here!! waves like a banshee

Love everything everyone else has said. I genuinely feel energised in autumn and love wearing my ‘uniform’ of check print skirts, roll necks, tights and boots.

DH and I usually do a long countryside walk on a Sunday followed by a roast dinner in a nice pub.

Autumn tv is usually good with new series coming out. And Bake Off starting. I like the Strike series for some cosy autumn vibes even though that’s not what it’s about. Or something like Jonathan creek.

Sitting under a blanket reading while the slow cooker is going. Nice soups, stews, pies and good desserts like apple pie and custard.

Walks where you can wear a proper coat and not end up sweaty and covered in flies.

Candles on!

Oh I can’t wait!

Go to TK Maxx! You can't move for pumpkin spicy and ghostly stuff! Get into the spirit early!

And The Range!
They’ve had Autumny, pumpkiny Halloweeny stuff quietly appearing on shelves for weeks now!

I agree with a pp, the food is so much nicer in Autumn.
We don’t seem to have eaten much apart from salad stuff and light meals for bloody weeks now… I’m suffering from Dumpling Depravation! I need the stews, Sunday roasts and one pot meals! The hot puddings and custard, the crumbles and suety goodness are much missed.

Not long to go now!
I notice the nights are ever-so-slightly drawing in ( hugs self with joy!)

NoCommentingFromNowOn · 29/07/2026 18:18

I’m going to have a go at a pumpkin pie this autumn.

Also love butternut squash soup, cakes, apple pies and crumbles, hot chocolate, all the stodge.

socks1107 · 29/07/2026 18:24

Me!! Oh my goodness I don’t mind the nice summer days but this hell that we’ve had this summer had done me in. Bring on October and all the lovely cooler days

fishbowlee · 29/07/2026 18:38

I love autumn but my cosy jumpers, scarfs etc don’t tend to come out until we approach winter!

September can be hot too, do people just ignore the weather?

I really want to experience rain!

BlackCat14 · 29/07/2026 19:29

I agree so much about the autumnal food, it is way better than summer salads!

I was mindlessly thinking earlier that I wish Autumn greeting cards were a thing 🤣 I love Christmas cards, all the gorgeous scenes and festive pictures decorating my mantle piece, I wish it was the norm to do this for autumn too, and have lots of gorgeous pumpkin and leaves and hot chocolate scenes adorning my living room!

Thegirlwhowent · 29/07/2026 19:35

The cool mornings, the crisp air even when the sun shines, carpets of golden leaves on lush green grass, a bright moon in a clear sky, cool nights...

Washingforweeks · 29/07/2026 19:36

I love autumn!! Getting cosy at home with the candles lit, board games with the kids on a rainy day, roast dinners, stew and dumplings, pies and casseroles. Dresses tights and boots and a big coat. Brushed cotton bedding and heated blanket. Long sleeved cosy pjs. Ooooo I can’t wait!!!!!

Washingforweeks · 29/07/2026 19:38

I always think Xmas isn’t far away when bake off starts. I have butterflies reading this thread 🤣

ZanyMaker · 29/07/2026 21:09

I like autumn but have a (probably irrational) dislike for the word cosy and no one seems to be able to enjoy autumn without it being cosy!! Cosy jumpers, cosy blankets, cosy hot chocolate - someone even mentioned a cosy book.

Maybe that means autumn and christmas threads aren’t for me 😂
