Please cheer me up with all the wonderful things to look forward to in Autumn.
I have had enough of heatwave after heatwave. Especially as a dog owner. Ive just stuck on Gilmore Girls as a means of escape!

So please join me here if you can't wait for Autumn and share any of your Autumn joys!

Put it in the Christmas section in the hope of finding my kinda people! I

I am an absolute candle obsessive and have over 100 squirrelled away for the winter months (as well as making my own) yet I had never heard of Druid Edinburgh. I have now signed up and am loving the sound of the Hibernate candle. I may have to indulge!

Also loving the coat. Reminds me of something similar I had in the late 80s.

Their candles are amazing. 😍

Another Druid candle fan here!

I love Cathedral - all incense and old books
Hibernate is also waiting for when it’s time to light a fire

woken up to the sound of rain outside!! That is never usually a lovely sound but this summer!

LeahCariad · 04/08/2026 17:57

Count me in as an autumn 🍂 lover. Started crocheting a new sofa blanket on holiday and am de-summer-ing gradually. I'm collecting a pile of books to read through the autumn and winter - I read throughout the year, but there always seems to be something else to do in the spring and summer.

I considered putting up fairy lights in my office today, but will resist for a little while longer.

I've had the Cathedral candle in my living room over the summer and a Midsummer reed diffuser in my downstairs toilet. This is reminding me I need to get ordering!

I’m just looking at all the cosy bits on the Next website and adding the gorgeous stuff to my notes 🍁

Seahorsemama · 04/08/2026 18:28

we spotted leaves on the turn today as was pointing out to my younger ds who hates autumn where as I adore it! I am done with summer now.

I love my annual autumn purchases/rituals. In August I order candles from Druid Edinburgh; Balmoral for September, Saddle for October/November and Woodlands for December. In early September, I light the candle and watch the only autumnal episode of The Darling Buds Of May, then The Halloween Party (Hercule Poirot) and then various episodes of The House of Eliott. And drink a couple of mugs of really good hot chocolate.

And speaking of purchases, I love this jacket! Don't need it but really, really want it!

God that just sounds so perfect. I’ve never heard of those candles but I bloody love a candle so will be buying!

We picked loads of beautiful autumn leaves on our woodland walk yesterday and now have them steeping in glycerine to preserve them.

Love a candle and had never heard of Druid Edinburgh before this thread.
Does anyone have any other candle recommendations for autumn ? X

TKMaxx have lots of autumn things on their website. It rained yesterday! It was bliss!

This is dangerous for me and DD. Last year, we bought a huge pumpkin 'pillow', which is actually a stack of 3 pumpkins 4ft high which has to stay out all year round.

I've just been to have my hair done, and my stylist informed me that Home Bargains (and possibly Primark?) is full of Gilmore Girls merchandise. Lukes coffee cup cushions, bedding, pyjamas.

I did question my eyesight at the weekend I must admit!

We were driving under a long canopy of leafy trees and I said to DP, “I’m sure those leaves are on the turn, it’s a bit early this year” He (such a city boy) said something like “what leaves?” 🙄🙄
So I had a proper look yesterday, and yes! some trees look very parched and their leaves are crispy, and there is a definite colour change in other trees.
Surely, this is a good month too early?

I think some of the leaves are dying (as in brown and crispy) due to drought as opposed to the true Autumn colour change. Fairly usual for it to begin here in the North East of England in mid August but possibly not so much further south.

I keep driving past a new build development thats being built called Autumn Ford. It sounds like a place that should be in Gilmore Girls (or a Christmas Hallmark film) It is definitely an over romanticised name for it's placement here near Newcastle city centre!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 06/08/2026 08:33

We found a wild plum tree yesterday in the woods, so had a good old foraging time - or as my DD calls it, Harassing Trees - There are nut trees growing next to it and blackberries a plenty, so I am just thinking of some sort of warming fruit crumble with a creamy, nutty topping. (If you see cob nuts around at the minute and shell them now while they are young, they have a lovely, creamy texture).

Where are all the Autumn lovers?

Ooh, I’d love to have that as an address!🍁🍂
And you’re probably right about the leaves dying off early due to lack of water.

I’m working from home today and it was lovely to watch actual, proper rain this morning while making my morning brew! And it’s cool enough to need my fleecy gilet on, yay!

Last weekend on my walk I went past a load of blackberry bushes and it smelled really sweet and delicious. I always think blackberries are an autumn/winter thing but I suppose they aren’t. Maybe it’s the thought of pies more than the fruit itself…

I was just wittering on on another thread about how the October half term used to be known as Blackberry Week, however, we are now picking them in late July and August.

Here's a link if you wish to be bored further on the subject 😆

Blackberry Week

As a kid growing up in the north-east of England in the 1970s, the half-term school holiday that occurred early in October was always referred to as “Blackberry Week”.  A quick on-line …

When I let the dog out late last night I said to my husband it smells like cold. So chilly here first thing as well. Strange when it’s so crazy hot in the daytime still!

I made the ultimate Autumn comment the other evening… “the nights are drawing in now… it’s gone dark really quickly” 🍂🍁

Currently baking american cookies and watching hocus pocus with my DD!

yes the fact that the nights are drawing on means it is cooler at night for sleep . I can just about cope with the heat if I can sleep at night but I just cant wait for thos summer to be over.
PS the nights are drawing in by 3 and a half minutes a day now so I feel like we are on the downward slope finally to autumn , winter and Christmas.

🍂♥️🍁♥️

Love chilly nights, decent telly, warm pjs, warm bed, Ddog cuddling up, it’s dark and quiet out
(sometimes I hear an Owl)
I just love it!!🪾

QuokkaCutie · 07/08/2026 20:23

To add… it is really getting darker by over 3 mins a night?
When I was at school (many years ago ) I’m sure we were told it was 2 mins a night, so around 15 mins a week. I could, of course, be mis-remembering!😄

it draws in at different rates. So a few seconds at first then it gradually increases until it is 4 mins plus a night. Then it levels off and then after the longest day it does it all in reverse ( which i hate).
If you go on the website time and date you.can track.exact times for wherever you live. It really cheers me up tracking the day getting shorter on there.
