Please cheer me up with all the wonderful things to look forward to in Autumn.
I have had enough of heatwave after heatwave. Especially as a dog owner. Ive just stuck on Gilmore Girls as a means of escape!

So please join me here if you can't wait for Autumn and share any of your Autumn joys!

Put it in the Christmas section in the hope of finding my kinda people! I

It's barely 9pm... It's dark-dark outside... The lamppost outside my window was shining in my bedroom, I thought it was the sun setting! It's raining on/off... Not too hot or cold... FINALLY! I still don't fully trust another heatwave to sneak up on us though... I'm going to try to wait until mid September to bring out the Autumn decor... Just incase...

My only issue now is that the garden is full of webs. The dark nights and mornings seem to have come out of nowhere, but so have the spiders.

Heat hasn't been an issue here thankfully so no real noticeable change here, although as I said last week, we have had the heating on a couple of times.

Ohhh, I can deal with spiders and webs, first time in a long time we've had GHSs in the house! Seems the Cellar spiders aren't earning their keep 😅 definitely walking through alot of webs while out and about, too. The amount of times I've almost stuck my head through a garden spiders (orb weaver, I think) web though... Atleast the dew and raindrops make them more noticeable!

It's slugs that's bothering me, I found a couple in my kitchen a few nights ago... Then another couple when I went down through night 🤢 We've sealed everywhere we can think of so hopefully that'll keep them out. Never had them inside before but it's really grossing me out and I'm doing a deep clean every morning as the thought of them being near the sink or on the worktops really makes me feel sick. No trails since we've sealed any crevices though 🤞

That night I found two big ones, it was about 2am and I couldn't sleep for thinking about there being more so after checking everywhere inside with a torch, I went out with gloves on and collected 20(!) from outside near my kitchen wall. Hopefully lowering the population there will lessen the likelihood of them finding their way back in again 🤢 hopefully the bigger birds will start coming back, only the sparrows have been around lately but the slugs are bigger than them 😅

Sorry, that's quite the essay but I think I needed the vent, apologies 😅

I’ve got a box full of gorgeous autumn decor… ceramic pumpkins, candles, decorative books etc. I’ve been quite concerned this year as I have a 14 month old and fear he’s just going to break everything, mess with everything, ruin my displays etc. BUT! I’ve been to a garden centre today and found loads of gorgeous soft/knitted decorative pumpkins. I’m so pleased as I can lay these out and yes, he will mess about with them and take them off the units but at least they’re unbreakable 🤣 I’m so pleased

Haha! Yes, I turned our normal sized fan off yesterday, as I wasn’t feeling well… Oooh! the silence!😱 wow! The tv volume went down straight away.

Im not putting the fan away yet, as like a PP, I don’t trust the damn weather to not start being silly-hot again. But I’m so enjoying the cooler weather, and cuddling the Ddog for warmth in bed!

😄 I dont want to tempt fate so its just sat there in everyone's way

Got my electric blanket, its fabulous!

livelovebreathe · 28/08/2026 18:31

Still not got my autumn decor out lol Been to the shops and garden centre today. There was loads of autumnal and Halloween decor, but it's been clammy again here so put me off buying anything. Think I'll wait a bit longer....😒

Little DS still has my pumpkin cushion, so I'm in the process of knitting some squashy pumpkins. Just finishing the first, small one, and then I can scale it up.

Three thunderstorms in 4 days here, and lots of torrential rain.

Candles have been on every evening.

DH is taking the children out "for a bit' this afternoon - I suspect this is to sort out my birthday present for a couple of weekends time - must mean that Autumn is on the way!

WeMeetInFairIthilien · 29/08/2026 07:44

Went for a walk at out local deer park/NT place yesterday, this was just before we goat soaked!

If anyone has any pictures of their front door wreaths/front door decor from previous years, can you show me please, or even when you get them put up this year.
Also if you DIY your wreath, can you tell me how you made a homemade one please, I'd love to try making my own! Any links to a favoured tutorial would be fab too 😍

This is a pic of my Autumn wreath from last year. It will be going back up on Tuesday. It's from Hobbycraft (around £25 iirc) but I have added pheasant feathers, and will be adding some cobnuts and more feathers this year.

Oh and I picked these ornamental quince yeaterday so will be adding those with some florist wire, and some pieces of wheat.

I’m literally itching to light the woorburner to dry the washing! 🤣

I almost caved this morning. Very much contemplating lighting it tonight though as we are due heavy rain all night.

I think it just has to be done, so I've now set it up ready to light later this evening. Been collecting dry sticks from the woods for weeks, so I have plenty of what I call 'lighting parcels' (paper bags filled with sticks, fir cones, scrunched up paper and old wooden lolly sticks we have collected over the summer)

Sasha07 · 29/08/2026 20:42

@RainbowZebraWarrior that looks fab! As does your front door 👀 I'd completely forgot about florist wire! That'd make it so much easier! Thanks for sharing ☺️

September eve! I love that.

Had the stove on this morning.

Very excited to get the wreath on the door in the morning.

Had a blowy day up on the local Iron Age fort, flying kites with the DC and then foraging. Blackberries, rose hips and hawthorns.

Candles will be on tonight, to see through September Eve.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/09/2026 05:13

Happy Autumn everyone!

I changed my bedding last night so I have woken up this morning in my lovely new Autumn duvet cover. Made a cushion out of a cashmere jumper (that has never fit me!)

Wreath will be going on the door at 7am which is when I leave to have my morning beach meander.

Happy September to you all :) I will be celebrating by wearing long trousers to work for the first time in 3 months because if actually feels a touch chilly, praise be!

Lillers · 01/09/2026 06:47

Happy Autumn!

I made my first roast of the season yesterday and it was marvellous. Definitely a chill in the air this morning, although I won’t make the mistake I made yesterday and dress too warm as by the time I was out and about, the sun was really strong again.

Think I might rake some leaves in the garden this morning.

birdysong · 01/09/2026 07:07

We made it! Happy autumn everyone!!

Are you such an Autumn lover, that you just can’t wait, and so you cut off the end of August? 😆🤣🤣 Excellent!!
Mind you, the last days of August were so dark and chilly, I’d have cut it off too!🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁🍁
