Please cheer me up with all the wonderful things to look forward to in Autumn.
I have had enough of heatwave after heatwave. Especially as a dog owner. Ive just stuck on Gilmore Girls as a means of escape!

So please join me here if you can't wait for Autumn and share any of your Autumn joys!

Put it in the Christmas section in the hope of finding my kinda people! I

Thank you! I will look into these!

We spend the evenings shouting
“ tail” as she comes wafting past… cups of tea get dipped in, cans of beer get swept away…good job we love her!

And I love the expression “Alsatian arson” 😆🔥🐕‍🦺

I grew up with them, I can clearly picture everything you mentioned 🤣😁 it was a GSD that helped me to start walking, it was either that or get dragged along, apparently 🤣 fond memories of lying infront of the gas fire cuddled into her, me being so small and her so big and fluffy/hairy 🥰

@RainbowZebraWarrior what are the best candles to buy? I get completely overwhelmed whenever I look or very disappointed when I light one.

I usually dread this part of the walk as it gets so boggy but even with the on and off rain, it's barely even muddy! It's also my favourite though, the way the trees lean to make an arch and the leaves falling around me 🍂 was quite windy which was nice as it's still a tad warm, even with a t-shirt on.

Plenty of crows in the fields that have recently been... Mown(??) (not sure what the word is, the tractors have been and cleared them all anyway,) they soon flew off and it was great to see, must have been atleast 100 of them, taking off in a wave. They don't seem to like seeing me as much as I like to see them!

I keep forgetting to take a tub to collect some blackberries! How do people 'prepare' them? I remember hearing they're full of worms but last year, I soaked some in water/vinegar mix and nothing emerged, should I have frozen them first?

We're slowly getting there, folks!

Gosh, where to start. Trudon if you have the money, followed by Diptyque. I also like Neom as they only use essential oils.

Mid range price though, I love Pintail candles, especially the Log Fire and Incense and Embers ones. I also like Toasted Crumpet candles. They do some lovely Christmas scents (look out for sales) I also love Aery who also do some incredible seasonal scents like Winter Thyme - again, look out for sales or on Vinted. Floral Street's Fireplace is another lovely autumn and winter scent. Definitely get looking on Vinted or T K Maxx.

Most of Aldi's seasonal offerings are also great bargains. Worth a look at the minute as they have the new Autumn range in now. I just picked up these two (at the front of the photo) in Aldi this morning. £3.99 and £6.99 I think

Edited for typos

That looks like an enchanted forest, and a bit like the One we go to every day (going in 10 mins!)

Have the fields been harvested like ours here? Or have yours also been ploughed already? Either way, all Very Harvest Festival 😊

I’m a huge fan of DW Home ones, they sell them in TK Maxx. They do so many amazing autumn scents and the designs are all gorgeous and autumnal as well!

Chocolateteabag · 18/08/2026 14:41

@Sasha07 - I always look at each blackberry I pick and chuck the ones with an obviously brown core as they will be wormy
you want the shiny ones with white cores really
but if you are cooking them up a few worms will just add extra protein and you won’t notice them
only if you are eating them raw (and then I’d always give them a quick rinse)

You have just described my life!
Shepherds are Velcro dogs at the best of times, but the current one is an abused rescue, ( only 10 months when we collected her..) so I do not get to go anywhere without her… bath, shower, toilet, loft space etc!
As much as I would love some lovely Autumnal candles, they are going to be for decoration only, I think!. She has no idea there is a tail at the back of her and she’d be smouldering all the time🙄
Last years Christmas decorations ended up being trashed
“re-arranged” by her. My lovely snowmen cushions got beaten up, and died, so I am trying to be wiser this year!😁

Tiddlywinks63 · 18/08/2026 17:49

@Sasha07 i tip the blackberries into a deep bowl of cold water, insects and debris float to the surface and can be skimmed off. Lay them out on a tea towel covered with kitchen roll and leave to dry.
I then freeze them if not using straight away.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 18/08/2026 18:13

I don't like blackberries or the thorns but I leave them for any birds or animals that might fancy them.
The past couple of days have been cool first thing then warmed up.Autumn is in the air. I think there will be no autumn leaves on the trees this year the trees are losing them already with the drought.
No candles here the cars are a massive fire risk

MightGetAFringeCut · 18/08/2026 23:29

Hooray, I’ve found my people! I love all the seasons but autumn is, without a doubt, my favourite. I’m most looking forward to…

Darker nights and snuggling on the sofa in front of the log burner

Turning the Aga back on and having a cosy kitchen

Making soups, stews, crumbles and scones

Tailgate/car boot picnics with my kids (if it’s chilly they make a den in the boot under a big blanket and we sit on the tailgate)

Swapping my crumpled linen and toenail polish requiring sandals for boots, Aran sweaters, thick flannel shirts, tweed and scarves. Bliss!

That ‘back to school’ fresh start feeling. I’m always so motivated in September and have loads of energy (if only it lasted all year!)

Going for walks wherever I fancy, rather than picking routes with plenty of shade from the relentless sun

Rain, mist and that feeling you have when it’s raining outside but you’re warm and dry in your home/car

Spending more time with family. Lots of family birthdays in Autumn and the holiday season is over so we get together more often

Watching the leaves change

I don’t manage it every year but I try to give myself a treat day where I’ll go antiquing, go to a nice bookshop and bakery and just generally mooch around

I’ve never seen Gilmore Girls but will definitely give it a try!

We foraged rose hips and elderberries from the hedgerows yesterday. Going out later gor some more so that we can make rosehip syrup and elderberry tonic. Both absolutely amazing for getting through the winter. Rosehips have 20 times for viramin C than oranges and are also anti inflammatory.

Here's an article for anyone who might be interested in doing the same. I just need to dig out my elderberry tonic recipe now.

Oh, I've also bought some nice brushed cotton checked shirts, fondly remembering some I had in the 90s. Currently wearing them already (open over a vest) but they will be great for layering with long sleeved tops as the weather gets chiller. And some Autumn tea towels. Just getting out some seasonal Reed diffusers that I've had squirelled away.

I have been working on some new candles myself since I see these ones with pumpkins and leaves atop are everywhere. I don't use colourings in my candles, but am going to experiment with these fir cone designs using turmeric and cinnamon for colour (I also have a leaf design mould) Gosh, I love making candles at this time of year!

Gorgeous.
It's dark and rainy here. Lovely...but I've got some washing I need to dry 🤦‍♂️😮I don't really want to relentless and bring in my airer from hell 😮😂

magicalmystery · 20/08/2026 15:11

It was really Autumnal this morning when I left for work at 5.30, we even had some mist which looked lovely amongst the trees. Cannot wait for Autumn now!

MaryasBible · 20/08/2026 15:26

It’s most definitely autumnal today in Hampshire. I’ve got the dehumidifier on trying to dry washing. Hold it back!! I’m not ready to have to dry indoors!! Can I have a few more days of sun to get one more full change of bedding/towels/blankets/cushion covers washed and dried outside.

I love wearing the 90s checked shirts with either jeans or a skirt and tights and DMs 😊

Top Poster for this thread!!😁

It was definitely autumnal at 5.45am today when I was heading out to the gym. Glorious sunrise, chill in the air. Perfect start to the day...although I was less enamoured with 2 sets of 20 press ups than I was with the sunrise and chill 🤣

LyndaSnellsSniff · Yesterday 19:49

I had a longish train journey today through countryside. The trees were definitely looking autumnal but I fear that may be more due to lack of water. I can dream though!
