Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@MammaGnomes my dd had a space talk watch in year 6 for this reason as I didn't want her having a phone yet but I could track her text/ring. As it has a SIM inside

However if she's in highschool double check the uniform rules as at my dd they are not allowed to wear smart watches so it's a case of hiding it under sleeve or getting taken off them

My teen has asked for some campus 00s in grey. The only colour that I can't find discounted. Anybody got any ideas of how to get them cheaper than £90.

Footlocker have them for £69.99.

Can we talk cameras for a moment?

For a (young) 10 year old who doesn't have a phone, would you opt for:

The instax mini? Or one of the cheaper thermal print ones? Budget isn't too much of an issue as it's a main gift. My fear is the refills for the instax are pricer (from what I saw £1 per photo?) - whereas the ones with the thermal rolls you could be a bit more snap happy?!

Really not sure on what to opt for as the best option?!

My teen just uses an old digital camera. Apparently there’s a bit of a following for them now, cex would be your friend here.

I don't know if anybody has put this one yet, but if you know anybody who does the Parkrun they have some very good clothing deals this week.

This t-shirt is down to £8.80 from £22, or there's a long-sleeved quarter zipped top at £15 from £38.

It might make a nice present along with a barcode wristband although those aren't on offer (top tip — if you want it to be a surprise, use the Parkrun results or 5K app to find their barcode number).

If you don't want the Parkrun branding, but still want running stuff there's more discreet Contra stuff on offer too.

Thanks for this. I know nothing about parkrun but do have someone to buy for who does it. What would they be using for their barcode without a wristband? Just trying to assess how likely it is they already have one, so wondering if they show a mobile phone or paper barcode or something?

hi, someone mentioned that you can get 20% off 3 for 2 in Boots. Does anyone know how, please? Thanks

My local TKMaxx had absolutely heaps of the Spode Christmas tree china. Can't see any of it online.

I got a sandwich platter (£19.99), 1lb loaf tin (£14.99), and fluted edge plates (£9.99 each, larger ones £12.99).

They also had cake stands and large roasting dishes, and a covered pot.

I got the original set bargain from these threads, years ago, and they come out every year and give such joy. I like to add a little to the set each year. These are the best prices I've seen in a while, cheaper than any I've found online.

Edited for typo.

Edited

I wonder if anyone knows if the TK maxx versions differ from the standard 12 piece set? Obviously not the fluted plates but the plainer ones, side plates and bowls. I bought the set online for £71 but it’s not arrived yet and we now have an extra guest so I need to buy more! I saw them in TK Maxx but wasn’t sure if they’re identical. Thanks!

hby9628 · 26/11/2024 13:40

@Keeponkeepigon thanks..I've just looked and when I click on the grey it says page not found. I think it's hard to find them on offer

@MeanMrMustardSeed Thank you for the heads up for Micro Dojo - do you have any other recommendations. Great lovers of Ticket to Ride, Sushi Go etc in this house and on the look out for some new board games. Thank you!

Hi this was me. It's certain items only. If you find the 3 for 2 section and then at the side filter by promotions and you can select "save an extra 20 percent on selected 3 for 2: it's telling me there are 169 items applied

PeskyPotato · 26/11/2024 14:06

@christmaspudding43 my husband has loads of little ones printed off, in every pocket so he can show it when running. I've even heard of someone having one tattooed on their arm! The wristband seems a good idea to me.

What ages are you looking for?

I’ve just bought the Seafarers expansion for Settlers of Catan for DS12, Kingdomino for DD8 and Forbidden Island for me! I love all the Azul series, but DCs aren’t massive fans.

Have you got Splendour or Carcassonne? The (new) classics (like Ticket to Ride) are really worth getting as they are so good.

Bit worried that my soccer04 order seems to have just disappeared? Do they send out a dispatch notice or roughly what time do they arrive? Ordered about 10 days ago but would have thought they’d send a ‘on its way’ type message?

The Revolution advent calendars for £20 look nice for teens
