Thread 14 - the one with BLACK FRIDAY!

1000 replies

Reastie · 26/11/2024 07:55

I think I always (or nearly always!) call the one with Black Friday this name. I'm assuming this thread will see us through the weekend and I'm not premature!!! Make sure you keep your Black Friday bargains genuine bargains - not everything that looks reduced actually is as good a deal as it looks.

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

If you have any voucher codes to share (or want to check for any) then have a look https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/5212144-sharing-voucher-codes

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes here . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Could I ask please the people who have ordered the Deans shortbread, how are you getting your 10% discount? I have signed up and registered but not discount code?

Hopefully you've got it x

Nestnearlyempty · 26/11/2024 11:24

Someone was after Cricut- one on Amazon Wow deal today..

snoopysnoooper · 26/11/2024 11:25

For those looking at Fahlo bracelets but not wanting multiple, they are doing all bracelets £10 each for Black Friday Smile

Great for me and dd wanted one and all the offers were either 5 for X amount or buy 2 get 1 free.

RJnomore1 · 26/11/2024 11:25

I'm going to be a right grump here :-) the chat doesn't bother me, I enjoy it, but the seemingly endless stream of "what was the x deal" posts rather than folk using their initiative to look for it, eating up a huge amount of threads, does. It adds nothing.

And yes I'm aware of the irony of my using up a post to moan about it. Like I said, I'm grumpy.

I don't think people are grumpy to have their say, it's a lot of pages and a lot of threads and eventually something is bound to grate on you... But I just ignore the annoying things (anyone got an Argos code? Not even a please) because this is a community and I know it's really sad but it's actually one of my favourite parts of Christmas being here. I feel bereft when it's over! 😁

MeanMrMustardSeed as someone already said the higher the refresh Rate/ Hz the better when it comes to gaming monitors. I bought the best for my son 10 years ago and it actually is only just need replacing now! I got Currys vouchers through the blue light scheme (5% off) and purchased this one:

https://www.currys.co.uk/products/msi-mag-274upf-e2-4k-ultra-hd-27-rapid-ips-gaming-monitor-10262220.html

Which was £300 on vouchers in the end but I know this is going to last until they're old enough to get their own 😂 and it's a ridiculous bargain for the stats!

Can we talk cameras for a moment?

For a (young) 10 year old who doesn't have a phone, would you opt for:

The instax mini? Or one of the cheaper thermal print ones? Budget isn't too much of an issue as it's a main gift. My fear is the refills for the instax are pricer (from what I saw £1 per photo?) - whereas the ones with the thermal rolls you could be a bit more snap happy?!

Really not sure on what to opt for as the best option?!

DD has both. The thermal rolls in all honesty are pretty poor quality and look like old fashioned faxes to me. They do a job, but they don't produce a photograph. I just got DD the instax Sq40 for her birthday last week and she absolutely loves it. The quality is great and she's planning on displaying the photos in a variety of ways. She's taking photos of her art work and planning a nature themed run of pics, so it's really engaging her brain and getting her out an about. They are working out at just under a quid a photo though, so yes, pricey. I'm thinking of seeing if I can get a good deal on subscribe and save.

WatchOutForBabyHaggis · 26/11/2024 11:58

Just a random post to say remember to keep checking Vinted for brand new things before you buy them elsewhere.

I've bought three things this week that were brand new in box on Vinted for far less (inc delivery) than the cheapest I could find online, even with BF discounts.

  • Kids AirUp bottle £18.15 vs £29.99 in BF sale.
  • Gemstone dig kit, £9.52 vs £19.99 Amazon
  • Northern Lights Projector, £11.45 vs £16 on Amazon BF sale

All the exact same product, all brand new with tags. Before I buy ANYTHING now I chuck it in Vinted to check. I'm annoyed with myself I bought so much last month without doing it.

hby9628 · 26/11/2024 11:58

My teen has asked for some campus 00s in grey. The only colour that I can't find discounted. Anybody got any ideas of how to get them cheaper than £90.

Yeknom · 26/11/2024 12:00

Thank you so much for your response @RainbowZebraWarrior, really helpful and I do appreciate it. DH is pushing for the instax in terms of quality too, I just didn't want her to be in the situation of not using it and saving it for "best" if that makes sense. I think the instax will have more longevity into teen years too...

I'm still yet to master subscribe and save - something I must look into!

I think I'll continue to scour a blk Friday deal for the instax

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 26/11/2024 12:02

I don't know if anybody has put this one yet, but if you know anybody who does the Parkrun they have some very good clothing deals this week.

This t-shirt is down to £8.80 from £22, or there's a long-sleeved quarter zipped top at £15 from £38.

It might make a nice present along with a barcode wristband although those aren't on offer (top tip — if you want it to be a surprise, use the Parkrun results or 5K app to find their barcode number).

If you don't want the Parkrun branding, but still want running stuff there's more discreet Contra stuff on offer too.

A friend just bought her 8yo This kodak as apparently the film works out about 30p a photo so not as horrifying.

the thermal ones are fun, and good if you want to take a zillion shots, but for serious photos to keep then they aren’t up to much.

Does anyone have any recommendations for those little pots for yoghurt, with a separate compartment for fruit/muesli?

Thanks.

I have a square version of the Sistema brand another poster linked for you. I got it in Tesco when they were doing discounts on back to school, but they often do offers on food containers. It does a brilliant job, we got it specifically for DIY granola yoghurt pots and don't suffer any leaks!

Yo! Sushi gift cards with 20% off directly from their site
I think would be popular with teens or coworkers etc. Stays valid for one year from load date. Only for the restaurants (so can't use it in the kiosk at Tesco, for example). Minimum value £5, goes up in 5s and 10s after that. Can be emailed, which is handy to have on phone, or posted - but postage is £4.25!

My DD11 will be walking to school by herself next year. Is there such thing as a watch that will fit her wrist whereby I can track her movements but doesn't need her phone?

Assuming you’ve got an iPhone We’ve used Apple air tags for that. Just linked to the find my app
