Thread 11 - the one where I’m nostalgic for a cinnamon bum kit

Reastie · 13/11/2024 15:09

Thanks @Beautifulsunflowers for the title. It was close between that and E.L.F on a shelf and some others - too many to choose from!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

@Famousthehero I think I bought one of those sets maybe not for £20 but for £15. The range is really decent (Sali Hughes is the Guardian Beauty Editor or similar). I have ended up buying a couple of the items full price. Definitely a steal at £2.99 for stockings!

I was out and about today, picked up a Kevin The Carrot plush for DS at his request. Lots of toys in Aldi. Also popped to Asda, tons of Grinch clothes - I'm sure someone was asking on here about them.

Got DH a brill 'Tis the season for being greedy' Mr Men Greedy T-shirt which will make him laugh!

Yes, definitely into avoiding waste and tries to buy any material from charity shops. I am not a sewer so wouldn’t have a clue. She’s quite short and slim and into quite casual clothes- jeans, wide leg trousers, the odd dress in a casual style eg pinafore. What sort of price for pattern books? Thanks so much @MissStilton

The Japanese art of sashiko which a technique for mending and repairing clothes - is popular at the moment. There are a range of kits including some that have preprinted patches for applying to mend/embellish clothes and iron on transfers to work an area that incorporates a patch etc.

MissStilton · 17/11/2024 17:06

@Ardagusdubh casual style narrows it down a bit: have a look at https://merchantandmills.com/ and sewhouse7.com, also namedclothing.com and mademywardrobe.com. For pinafores, the Cleo pattern at tillyandthebuttons.com is well regarded. I’d avoid fabric unless very confident- part of the appeal of sewing your own is being able to choose and also, you need the right amount and type for the pattern/machine/skill level etc. If looking into knitting, she might prefer a yarn producer with a sustainability focus such as Garthenor, De Rerum Natura or CaMARose.
alternatively you could take her interest in upcycling and look at something like Elvisandkresse.com (accessories from fire hose) or Upcircle (lovely skincare from waste ingredients- but also a book on how to do this at home). For full disclosure, I have a £10 referral code on that thread.

I think it was back on Thread 6 we were talking about individual Christmas biscuits as gifts for colleagues. I saw some in Aldi today for 99p each and they were definitely vegetarian.

I’m pretty sure this is the one as I bought it for my niece but it was a lot cheaper. I paid £15. Might be worth waiting until black Friday.

You generally won’t find a good discount for Jellycats (unless selling off seasonal stock/shop closing etc). Quite often, a massive discount will appear for an online company, but you can guarantee this company will be fake.

I recommend looking on Vinted or eBay, as you can get some real bargains on there (new with tags). If you want to buy from a shop, if it’s a shop you haven’t heard of before, then I recommend you look at their reviews first.

I was worried this might be the case. Thanks for the info

@BrieCamera my daughter has asked for these and this is what I have done. Have you checked your Amazon promotions? Some accounts, have £5 off £10 spend and £3 off £10 collection point orders.

Currently Amazon have price matched the dolls with slime and pet for £21.99, I used the £5 off to get it for £16.99. I also found a like new one in the Amazon Resale (used to be amazon warehouse) for £9.99 and had £3 off for click and collect. The only thing wrong with the resale doll was the packaging had a tiny rip which I had to look for.

Could you tell me where you found your promotion tab please? I can't find it and AI help is useless.
