Thread 11 - the one where I’m nostalgic for a cinnamon bum kit

Reastie · 13/11/2024 15:09

Thanks @Beautifulsunflowers for the title. It was close between that and E.L.F on a shelf and some others - too many to choose from!

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Thank you @Cantthinkofadifferentname for the argos code 😁
I'm now after recommendations for a very basic crochet for beginners kit for 10 yo DD who wants to learn and would be starting completely from scratch. I'm not at all crafty so not much help to her.

InbetweenDreams · 17/11/2024 12:55

@TimPat If you are a total beginner yourself and can’t offer any help, it might be worth looking for bloggers doing “craft along” projects with videos either on their own site or on YouTube so she can watch and copy them. I am fairly well established now and I still watch YouTube videos for stitches I haven’t tried before, and I had to find videos for my daughter because she is left handed and I am not!

InbetweenDreams · 17/11/2024 12:57

@TimPat also worth noting that most crochet patterns are in US terminology (there are more Americans than us and also they are more crafty in general) and probably worth learning US rather than UK for this reason!

Scout2016 · 17/11/2024 12:59

@Babynumberthreeee have sent you a code by PM

EvilHerbivore · 17/11/2024 13:00

I'll have an o2 decoration code if anyone else needs one?

CoffeeAndEnnui · 17/11/2024 13:01

@Lifeisart I was quite sceptical the first time I placed an order at BO, in the spring. I ended up buying a few £2 palettes and gradually building (until I was stocking my gift drawer with abandon!) from there. The only thing to watch for is the word Tester in the title/description of anything that seems even cheaper than the rest. There are a few scattered among the different makeup brands and obviously they wouldn't be in sealed wrapping.

bigchanges1 · 17/11/2024 13:01

O2 priority code below for the free decoration if anyone still needs one:

TimPat · 17/11/2024 13:04

@InbetweenDreams thanks for the tips 😊 I am completely clueless and am also a leftie while she's right handed as well!

SootspriteSearcher · 17/11/2024 13:20

Me and both dds have o2 priority so have 3 codes I can share for the decorations. I'm just popping out but will upload them later once everyone is home! I think they only last 15 mins once requested if they are like the other rewards. 😊

Starabella · 17/11/2024 13:21

M&s had these happy land advent calendars reduced. My dd had one of these 4 years ago when she was a toddler and still enjoys playing with the figures now.

If I could be cheeky and ask for 2 sent by pm I’d be really appreciative

I would really appreciate O2 Christmas decoration code for 4 year old twins if anybody would be so kind.
Thanks

If you have a Hobbycraft near ypu they do crochet workshops which are good value and great face to face teaching

Going back a few weeks to the bargain Nespresso Vertuo machine … I remember discussion of there being a subscription discount. Possibly a code in the box? I stupidly didn’t pay attention at the time and assumed mine would be in the packaging somewhere, but it isn’t.

Can anyone who got one please shed any light on it? What was it and where should it have been? I’m at the point of ordering more because I only use the double espresso ones.

I can send you my double espresso ones! I only use the mugs 🥰🎄

Mytribeof3 · 17/11/2024 13:56

Does anyone have an Argos code they don't need please? 🙏

N96 · 17/11/2024 13:57

LazyDaisy unfortunately code has already been used but thank you for posting.

InbetweenDreams · 17/11/2024 14:00

@TimPat the struggle is real lol. My sister taught my daughter the basics and she really got into but I had no idea how to help when she got stuck at home. I started learning myself so that I could help but had to use left handed videos for her and right handed ones for me while we practiced. Now we’re more confident we can face each other like mirroring and that can work! And now I have a new hobby too :)

Does anyone have an electronic diffuser they can recommend? Teen DD wants some candles for her room. As she can't remember to turn off a light, I'm saying no as she'll just leave the candle burning. A diffuser would at least give her the scents she is after. I know White Company do them but both the item and the scents must be £££ and so DD wouldn't be able to get more when she ran out or fancied a change

I bought the Tisserand one from Amazon a couple of Christmases ago. I think I paid around £20 for it. It’s a bit more expensive now but worth watching to see if it comes down in price for Black Friday.
