Thread 10 - the one with a rubber dick each

1000 replies

Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

My adult ds has just discovered audio books, he doesn't read normally, I have found the gift subscription on Audible. Is there any way of getting it cheaper

Put on the last thread then realised you were racing along over here....

There's a lovely Sol de Janeiro body retreat set reduced from value of £70 down to £40 at both John Lewis and Look Fantastic.....but if you open a new account through a link on the referral page, you can get another £10 off at Look Fantastic...lots of referrals on there

And don't forget to also try discount code 40PLUS as it sometimes works on already discounted items to give a bit more money off.

I try this code whenever im buying anything on look fantastic. What it works on can also change from one day to the next

Didyeaye · 09/11/2024 14:18

Thanks for the olaplex advice. I ordered to try! Thanks
for the alternative too @Yalz - I’ll check that out!

Crackersnap · 09/11/2024 14:20

Not very festive but Audible almost always offer discounted subscriptions when you cancel, so it may be that he sets it up for a few months then you can boost it for a bit with offers after - I'm currently paying 99p a month for 3 months again. Spotify also allow a certain amount of audiobook hours in their premium subscription.

Can anyone recommend bargainous tea towels please? Pattered rather than plain.

The Ulster Weavers ones from last year were such a hit that people would like similar this year, but I can’t bring myself to pay the £7-10 that they cost most places, given that they are “extras”.

I thought Whistlefish might be good, but most of theirs are Cornish places which wouldn’t have any relevance.

Primark have some lovely Christmas ones in at the moment

IfyoushouldmeetaCrocodile · 09/11/2024 14:39

Character.com has free delivery (for the first 200 users), with the code 200ADFS. I had to use their customer service recently and they were absolutely outstanding. Spoke to a real human, who called me back within the hour with an above and beyond solution. 100% recommend.

Can PM a referral code if you’d like one?

Didyeaye · 09/11/2024 11:08

@pinkchampagne1 would you recommend olaplex? I’ve never used it but my hair could be doing with some proper care and attention!

I find it really good and my hairdresser also recommends it. 🙂

@Lidlisthebusiness @christmaspudding43 @BourbonsAreOverated Just to clarify, HB do a dupe version of Hi Smile, but they also have the actual Hi Smile toothpaste as well (need to be careful as packaging is identical!). I got some last weekend, the peach flavour but they do other flavours as well. I believe you can get them on the HB website as well

Ohhh that’s useful to know I didn’t know they do dupes as well.

previous Christmas I’ve done Marvis ones but I thought I’d change it up with the different Hismile flavours

BourbonsAreOverated · 09/11/2024 15:07

TinyGingerCat · 09/11/2024 13:42

Thanks for this - best price I've seen them at. Bought for DDs birthday in January 😊

They are a thing of beauty aren’t they

BourbonsAreOverated · 09/11/2024 15:10

Silverstag · 09/11/2024 11:21

I know the Hismile toothpastes look fun but the amount of fluoride is less than is recommended for anyone over the age of 3 so ok as a one off Christmas treat but I wouldn't recommend using it all the time.

Fucking hell for the price they should be the nuts!

Eggmcmuffin · 09/11/2024 15:28

Thanks for the olaplex deal, been wanting to try it for a while. Sone also have 25% off too (for singles day, didn't realise that was a thing?!) and the code and samples still work with those.

SweetBaklava · 09/11/2024 15:30

D6Q4 gives 20% off at Boden at the moment (with thanks to Microsoft Edge for finding it for me during a purchase online earlier today) I hope that helps someone!

20% off virgin experience days with Xmas20 - I'm looking at a race experience for DS in 2 super cars for £39 which I'm hoping he'll love!

BoilingHotand50something · 09/11/2024 15:42

Can anyone recommend a karaoke machine? Joint present for the DDs. Both love their music and one has singing lessons. Definitely need to be able to Bluetooth to it but feel a bit bewildered by choice. Budget probably £100-150

Webbb · 09/11/2024 16:10

InbetweenDreams · 09/11/2024 11:21

@Webbb does it have speed settings? Or do you just control it with your foot? I don’t want one that would go too fast for my daughter!

Just your foot :)

Vimaybe · 09/11/2024 16:11

Does anyone know the dares ASOS normally does black friday? I heard it was 80% off last year but not sure if that's gospel...
