Thread 10 - the one with a rubber dick each

Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

50% off again at Not on the highstreet. I got a nice make up bag to pop some of the beauty haul bargains in.

Is there a link? I cant see it on their site...

Has anyone seen the large bars of dairy milk on offer anywhere?

They're £9 on Amazon, slightly cheaper at Iceland apparently.

mumonthehill · 13/11/2024 12:50

@GirlWithTheYellowHat i just checked email and it was early access as i am on their mailing list I think. Sorry.

Justhereforthechristmasthreads · 13/11/2024 12:50

@dancemom £8 at Tesco with clubcard

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 13/11/2024 12:51

@mumonthehill not to worry, it'll be coming to the rest of us soon then!

Howisitnovember · 13/11/2024 12:52

Not so Christmassy, but looking for some help. DP has asked for an electric ice cube maker if anybody has any recommendations?

ChoccyJules · 13/11/2024 12:54

Joe & Seph’s Gourmet Popcorn have 14% off with the code BDAY14 until midnight tonight, and a free bag of popcorn if you spend over £30.
Plus they are on TopCashback.
I just sorted out the godchildren. Also got free shipping although I can’t recall what the spend was for that to kick in and can’t see it on their homepage right now.

welshgirl666 · 13/11/2024 13:11

Large dairy milk bars are £8 in tesco.

I've found the Home Bargains Xmas wax melts are really strong and lovely! I struggle to smell a lot of wax melts so highly recommend.

Just a heads up but Olaplex has ruined a lot of people's hair- check the Facebook group out.

Snackverse - we've had them twice for 6 months and will do it again for DC this year. Always a massive hit, I think they're good prices and worth it. Can't say I've noticed about the outside of Europe thing at all. A fun gift.

My ELF order has shipped , reverted back to one free birthday lip gloss rather than the two it let me add .

Mine too but I can’t complain. 3 orders, 2 lip liners, a lip gloss, 2 lip oils, a putty blush, a brush and lip filler for £17 delivered.

sansou · 13/11/2024 13:28

DD had a dry cut (£26) at our local hair salon. They used this fancy hairspray. It's been a long time since I bought hairspray but I'm never spending a tenner on one! £6 is more palatable and it's going in her stocking as a treat.

hby9628 · 13/11/2024 13:30

This looks quite good. My DD often likes to sit on her bed & draw. Could be useful for that

I agree the concept is brilliant and to give them their due, since the Advertising Standards Agency got involved, they do now advertise 25% off the first box (it used to say "25% off subscription plans).

However if you have a teen who has an interest in Asia or further-flung countries, you won't get a box that isn't European. You're right, it's still fun and not terrible value, but it's not what they're advertising.

Check out the less-positive reviews on Trustpilot and you'll see an emerging theme.

Jackie994 · 13/11/2024 13:32

in need of something for my Son in Law… a couple years ago we got a great bargain for holister stuff off this thread. Anyone have anything similar they can suggest??

DaffodilsInAJamjar · 13/11/2024 13:32

My Olaplex just arrived. The free gift "bauble" was included, suprisingly.

I'd ordered the dry shampoo- both that and the no.3 in the bauble are 50ml bottles. Good travel size I suppose.

Junibug · 13/11/2024 13:34

Does anybody know of any Yoto player offers coming up?

WimbyAce · 13/11/2024 13:39

Real life shopping, pretty successful although some things already oos which seems ridiculous.

Anyway, picked up the magic mixies lamp reduced to £15 at Sainsburys now in clearance. Wasn't looking to buy it but bargain I thought?!

OliverBabish · 13/11/2024 13:55

@RainbowZebraWarrior i saw the squishmallows advent calendar in Sainsburys this morning 😀

fourormorecharacters · 13/11/2024 13:55

I'm another one that wouldn't recommend Snackverse. I used them back when they were Snack Surprise – we had some great boxes and the subscriptions were really appreciated as a gift. Then they started being late, double payments being taken and no answers to emails. Even better they disabled the ability to cancel subscriptions on their website. They racked up loads of bad reviews (see https://www.reviews.io/company-reviews/store/snacksurprise-com for instance) then closed down and came back as Snackverse. Buyer beware!

Thank you so much for this. As luck would have it, I'm headed right for a large sainsburys now before the school run 🤞

Georgieporgie29 · 13/11/2024 14:01

I got my DD a snackverse subscription for her birthday in May, I just did it for 6 months. I was able to cancel my subscription online and when I cancelled they offered my my next box with a discount, I didn’t accept it though just continued to cancel and everything went through fine. All the boxes we had were Europe based and that was fine for us. I hadn’t heard of them as snack surprise though so maybe they took onboard the reviews and fixed it for snackverse.

fishfingersandchipsagain · 13/11/2024 14:03

I have a niche bargain request. I need to buy a Steam Deck OLED (the newer one).

ljbmum76 · 13/11/2024 14:07

Another Hot Diamonds code. WOJ30 30% off site wide apparently. I don’t know if it stacks but often their codes do. Or if you login and leave something in your basket you might get another code for 10% off.

@Dropthepilots That's not correct, the terms state, spend a minimum of £30 (excluding VAT & postage, so £37.50) at any of the Rakuten partner brands within 90 days of signing up to the website. Once your purchase is confirmed your £25 bonus will be available in your Rakuten account. Cashback is paid out automatically to your linked PayPal or bank account on the 15th of every month when you have a minimum confirmed balance of £5.01. The £25.00 bonus cashback IS included as part of your confirmed balance so you don't need to do any other shops through them to cashout once it's confirmed.

If you are making a purchase anyway, as I'm sure we all are at this time of year, it's a click of a button extra than you would have done, and £25 coming back to you. It's helped me so I hope it helps others.

Hi, just wanted to clarify. Do you need to use a referral code to sign up to Rakuten. I’ve just done it, spent £50 on Boots and have £6.50 pending in cashback.
