Thread 10 - the one with a rubber dick each

1000 replies

Reastie · 09/11/2024 06:18

Thanks @CalliopePlantain for the title. Lord of the Rings rubber dick anyone?! Grin

Greetings and welcome one and all to a friendly and joyful corner of mn - the Christmas bargain thread. Here, we share Christmas present purchases, ideas, links and discount codes, with the aim to spread the Christmas magic and joy and reduce the financial stress.

It's a very busy thread, so see the tips below for helping everything run smoothly and avoiding repetitions of Cookiegate etc al. It's a lovely, friendly bunch and I'm so grateful to each and every one of you for building such a warm, fuzzy and generous spot on mn. I know I've save so much over the years and am so grateful to all of you for sharing.

Pull up a sleigh and relax with a mulled wine and mince pie, for Christmas has nearly arrived!

@ me if you need anything or you want to let me know anything - the thread moves so fast I can't always keep up so this really helps

A few pointers to make everyone’s life easier and the thread be as useful as possible:

  • It’s handy to put in bold the bargains so they’re easy to spot
  • No affiliate links
  • No need to place mark or post messages of hello or thanks at the start of a new thread - use the ‘watch thread’ button
  • Be nice or leave

The current referral thread for sharing referral codes https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/christmas/4940918-4940918-bargain-referrals-thread-6 . Please use this rather than this page to share referral links to make the sharing fair.

To make clicks links, you set it up like this only without any spaces apart from between the website and the word(s) you’re writing: www.bargainsahoyeveryonecomehere.co.uk

Thanks @RainbowZebraWarrior for the instructions below.
To make something bold, put this star * either side of the word you want to bold (with no spaces in between)

So starhellostar would look like this.

hello

Obviously use the * not the word star

Some of the below is copied and pasted from previous years, so do @ me if the links don't work

Papier have their gorgeous rollerball pens in the sale for £6. I've given many of these as gifts and use them myself,

Popped my referral code in the referral thread where you can get £10 off your first order.

Thanks for the new thread @Reastie.

Has anyone seen Estée Lauder Beautiful body lotion at a reasonable price? Boots show it at £37.50 instead of £50 but it’s out of stock

Debenhams have it at £39 with free devivery
Also go through Quidco (2.25% )or TCB (2.55% / 4.55%)

Lidlisthebusiness · 09/11/2024 11:07

@christmaspudding43 and @BourbonsAreOverated I've just found a selection of HiSmile toothpastes half price on Superdrug. There's probably other discounts available to track on top as well somewhere.

Didyeaye · 09/11/2024 11:08

@pinkchampagne1 would you recommend olaplex? I’ve never used it but my hair could be doing with some proper care and attention!

Lidlisthebusiness · 09/11/2024 11:09

In fact, at that price I might get one for each of my children for their stocking!

evtheria · 09/11/2024 11:09

@Lidlisthebusiness
I always go to TKMaxx around this time of year as they tend to sell the Marvis ones, which also look quite snazzy in metallic ornate packaging. Approx. £3-6 depending on size.
DS gets cinnamon, ginger, etc. in his stocking to go along with all the sweets! I have seen them (and wider range) on Amazon but the prices are usually not as good as in TK, unless buying a boxset of different flavours.

I'm a known tea snob person, so I get a lot of tea presents and they never live up to Bird and Blend and they end up in the staff room at work for public use (teacher).
I'd much rather one little tin of B&B to massive selection boxes of tea that I do get...if your son already has a taste for it, I fear it's too late for him too!
You do get two tea bags a day in the advent calendar so it would do for two people!

Thank you. He’s only a 13 yo boy but already turns his nose up at my offer of a cuppa in favour of his B&B blends 🤣. You’ve basically now made me realise it’s this one or a chocolate one….

in case there are any other tea fans out there who need a gift, just wanted to say that last year we got him a single tea pot from the Brew Tea Company and it’s bloody brilliant. Great non-messy, no fuss way of making loose leaf tea. I’ll link to the actual company below but not they are a couple of pounds cheaper on amazon. My son loved this and then his friend got one too and then my aunt saw it and wanted one too so that was another gift sorted 😃.

Had an email from Amazon with £3 off next order using a pick up location- will be account specific but worth checking your offers.
Also email from craft gin club offering Nov box half price if I resubscribe

Lidlisthebusiness · 09/11/2024 11:20

@evtheria thank you! I'll have a look online and see if they're on there, I'll need 5 so the bigger choice the better.

Silverstag · 09/11/2024 11:21

I know the Hismile toothpastes look fun but the amount of fluoride is less than is recommended for anyone over the age of 3 so ok as a one off Christmas treat but I wouldn't recommend using it all the time.

InbetweenDreams · 09/11/2024 11:21

@Webbb does it have speed settings? Or do you just control it with your foot? I don’t want one that would go too fast for my daughter!

ProbablyOnlySellOne · 09/11/2024 11:29

CeeceeBloomingdale · 09/11/2024 10:42

Try the app. There's a discount for using the app too.

Thanks very much for this. I have downloaded the app and it is better but still no pictures of any of the products! Maybe my internet provider thinks it's a porn site or something! Going to try it at my parents' house later as they will have more lax internet security.

GirlWithTheYellowHat · 09/11/2024 11:41

Does anyone have a free delivery code etc for boohoo? I need to buy 2 sizes so will get stung when returning also!

PoisedGoldBiscuit · 09/11/2024 11:48

Montanna15 · 09/11/2024 09:39

Does anyone know how to get some discount from halfords ? Need to buy a very expensive bike for christmas for DS. Black Friday? Is it certain items or over all store discount ?

I can send you an 8% discount code if that's any help?

Dolphintrainer · 09/11/2024 11:51

@Didyeaye my hair was in need of massive TLC last winter. The hairdresser recommended Olaplex shampoo and conditioner, and I’ve used it ever since. I also use the No 7 oil for a little calming after blow drying. You only need a little bit of the shampoo, it goes quite a long way.

fishfingersandchipsagain · 09/11/2024 11:52

Can anyone recommend bargainous tea towels please? Pattered rather than plain.

The Ulster Weavers ones from last year were such a hit that people would like similar this year, but I can’t bring myself to pay the £7-10 that they cost most places, given that they are “extras”.

I thought Whistlefish might be good, but most of theirs are Cornish places which wouldn’t have any relevance.

bumblebeedee · 09/11/2024 11:54

Clark’s are doing spend £100 save £20 atm. Discount applied at checkout.

TryingToHelpBut · 09/11/2024 11:58

Morning all. Just wanted to say in all the heated throw chat that I used Lakeland just over 2 years ago when they had a good sale on to buy one. My throw has just broken (I've never had one that lasts and lasts) but noticed in the order email that their returns policy is three years! So it's just been collected from my door by Evri and they are going to refund me over next couple of days! Super friendly email and phone chat too.
Definitely going to get another one from them when this refund goes through.

Didyeaye · 09/11/2024 11:58

Thanks @Dolphintrainer do you use it as normal shampoo or less regularly? I’m so not clued up

Elphaba17 · 09/11/2024 12:02

I haven’t tried it but just ordered a deal from them that I saw on HUKD. Code PRESENT adds a 50ml No3 hair perfector ornament to your basket for free (worth £16) and you can choose a free sample at checkout too (all generous 20ml sizes).

Delivery is free so I got a 100ml shampoo, with the free hair protector and a serum sample for £11 delivered. You can use the code with the bigger sized bottles too but I’m happy with this as a way to try out the range and see if it’s worth the hype.

@Didyeaye I use it for most washes rather than as a treatment. But I only wash my hair twice a week. If I was a daily hair washer it would be too expensive to use it that frequently.

DeathStarCanteenGal · 09/11/2024 12:08

TREAT15 takes 15%off everything at Lisa Angel - it's on their Christmas catalogue that came in the mail so will be generic
might be useful for those looking for jelly cats though, as they stock a few of those

How did you get the free sample? I’m getting the hair perfector ornament with it (code is also advertised on their website) but no free sample
