A restaurant voucher. Email print out.

I feel really flat and deflated. Aibu to feel like this? Obviously said thank you but just seems like he couldn't be bothered.
Wouldn't even pay for a whole meal anyway.

merrymelodies · 25/12/2023 22:44

One Christmas, my XH gave me ONE earring, saying I would get the other for my birthday the following October. 😡

I would like this! As long as it's a nice restaurant. You can have a lovely meal out together.

What? She's so she said it wouldn't pay for a meal. Why would she pay for his?

ConsuelaHammock · 25/12/2023 23:30

A step ladder! I win! 🤪

I got no gift as we decided ( well I did) not to this year, I've few vouchers I haven't used for clothes from.hubby and I find them pressure then as I haven't used them yet. So I kept saying don't get me a voucher even though he wanted to.
I usually tell him exactly what to get and it's usually a voucher. As unless I choose it I don't like alot things. And if its jewellery I have to choose it.

@Scalottia did you mean to be so rude. I don't give a flying fuck about your nasty opinion. Go and piss on someone else's chips

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 26/12/2023 18:59

@roundcork I'd steel yourself for some abuse for writing that as I got a lot for the same thing

CRD67 · 26/12/2023 19:00

Next year in early December.
"As you're shit at buying presents I'll buy my own this Christmas, the budget is £200, just let me have the cash and I'll even wrap them for you".

Supersares · 26/12/2023 19:03

Is he normally more imaginative? It’s ok but not brilliant. I know some couples who don’t bother exchanging gifts at Xmas. One year I had a few Clinique items and had to pretend to be chuffed but inside I was disappointed! I now give him pointers on what I’d like. What did you get him?

restingbitchface30 · 26/12/2023 19:26

I got anti wrinkle cream one year and a duvet set another! Some men are just genuinely rubbish.

That sounds so depressing though, and even doing the wrapping?

My DH is a terrible gift giver and yesterday I had finally had enough and shouted at him to return it all as I didn't want it. It's not much to ask for someone you live with and speak to every day to know your likes and dislikes and be able to pick out a nice gift for you a couple of times a year. It's the least we should expect actually.

I disagree with the posters saying "at least you got a gift as I got nothing". I would rather get nothing than receive something that is so far removed from my taste it is actually hurtful and insulting to receive.

CRD67 · 26/12/2023 19:33

It's a solution, obviously not an ideal one but gets results and stops disappointment. You like the OP are setting yourselves up for disappointment unless you take charge. I, (as a man) am a fantastic present buyer, I don't understand people, men and women who aren't.

shearwater2 · 26/12/2023 19:34

I got a cashmere sweater, a book, socks and a box of chocolates. Pretty good.

Nottodaythanksforplaying · 26/12/2023 19:59

I got a bunch of nice small things (yoga socks, charbonnel & walker champagne truffles etc.), & a sensilift face anti ageing device. Not sure if I should be offended. I am 50 and I do take care to buy anti ageing skincare and have a day and night skincare regime, so he says he wanted to get me something I’d like but don’t have. Or does he think I look ancient 😂

Thisworldsnofun · 26/12/2023 20:52

I got a book. That he'd also brought me 2 years earlier. With the excuse that he didn't know which one came next in the series. Its fucking Harry Potter- not exactly obscure! Apparently the concept of Google is beyond him.
He also asked me for the new assassins creed game. Then decided he was going to buy it for himself on Xmas eve about an hour before I left for work so I couldn't even get him anything else. Partners really suck sometimes!

Mrsgreen100 · 26/12/2023 21:18

kicked my ex out , the joy of no shit presents from him is fantastic,
last one he got was measuring spoons !
before that oven gloves
this year his poor daughter got gifted free shit
he gets from work ( beer related)
she wept last year when he was so thoroughly thoughtless ( same free shit ) again this year he’d nicked from his work customers
she laughed and said “ stupid mean twit”
she’s not about the thing but some small gift he’d taken the time to buy and wrap ffs
she said today that she realised that all the birthday and Christmas presents over her life to date had been me and he just wrote on the label
hes not poor
as he so stole from us both for years !

SuperBlondie28 · 26/12/2023 21:19

I got a dressing gown which was vile, looked like a pensioner would wear it. In Large size. I'm a Medium or Small . Evidently that was only size in Sainsbury's on Friday! Some briefs in a size too large. He told my elderly parents there's room for growth with the undies. Also from Sainsbury's. And socks.

I then got told by my mother that I'm ungrateful! Both gown and undies straight back to Sainsbury's this morning

Scalottia · 26/12/2023 21:21

@teaandtoastwithmarmite yeah I did.

Reading comprehension seems difficult for a few people on this thread. Go start your own thread if you want to brag about your presents.

Happilyobtuse · 26/12/2023 21:23

Well I think that is quite a nice gift unless you don’t like that particular restaurant. Food is always good and I love trying out new restaurants.

I got a perfume gift set, a woollen bobble hat and a set of next lounge wear pyjamas. I was happy, we don’t really make a big deal for Christmas as we aren’t even Christian. I bought my DH a bottle of Christmas whisky, a Christmas jumper from next and lounge pants from DKNY. He was pleased too.

Good lord another one who can't read the room. Nobody is asking about your wonderful gifts. Go post about it somewhere else.

vickidoodah · 26/12/2023 21:36

I don’t understand how people think this is a win? I feel so bad for couples who can’t be arsed to get each other gifts .
