Off to the shops this morning to pick up something for tomorrows dinner. What do you eat for dinner on New Years day?

I'd like to do roast lamb but lamb is so expensive!

Roast chicken, nothing special. DH wants to start a diet in the new year and when he does he literally weighs every item of food, so it'll be a nice last blow out meal for him.

Doing a party food buffet tonight.

loudbatperson · 31/12/2022 12:21

It's always a beef roast for us with all of the trimmings. Pretty much a re-do of Christmas dinner, but only one meat.

YellowMonday · 31/12/2022 12:24

BBQ, seafood and salad. 34 degrees here in Melbourne tomorrow.

MistyIsle · 31/12/2022 12:24

Usually steak pie but feeding 15 so doing a homemade Chinese and a Kinder Cheesecake 😋

CharlotteStreetW1 · 31/12/2022 13:00

We're having minted lamb steaks from our local butcher. They're pricey but delicious.

I want to get back into doing proper Sunday lunch so tomorrow is as good a day to start.

mydogisthebest · 31/12/2022 13:08

We spent Christmas Day with family and cooked for 16.

Tomorrow is our "Christmas Day". Just me and DH our our dogs. We will do our presents to each other and the dogs have presents too.

We are having nut roast, roast potatoes, yorkshire puddings, roast parsnips, mashed parsnips, carrots, peas, cauliflower, brussel sprouts. veggie pigs in blankets, bread sauce and stuffing. Dogs are having roast chicken.

Really looking forward to it and we are cooking far too much just so we can have bubble and squeek on Monday! Probably enough to freeze some for future bubble and squeek too!

VeganStar · 31/12/2022 13:11

normal Sunday vegan roast

MintJulia · 31/12/2022 13:11

There's only two of us so chicken tray bake with potatoes, black olives, cherry tomatoes and broccoli.

Then DS will clear more mince pies. 😊

Keekabooyou · 31/12/2022 13:14

lentil soup, steak pie and whatever pudding I pick up today 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🥳

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 31/12/2022 13:25

We usually have PIL round and do a roast pork Sunday lunch but it's just me, DH and DD(13) this year.

DD has asked for "Dads Amazing Leftover Turkey Lasagne" so he's making that for us. (The Turkey was frozen a few days ago so safe to eat lol).

Favouritefruits · 31/12/2022 13:44

I’ve bought a chicken and some nice bread which we will have with a nice salad and dressing. I really cannot be bothered cooking another roast for everyone to not eat and Moan.

Minfilia · 31/12/2022 13:50

Chicken and pork
Cauliflower cheese
Pigs in blankets
Sprouts and bacon
Mashed potatoes
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire puds
Stuffing balls
Carrots, peas and broccoli
Gravy & apple sauce

So basically similar to Christmas dinner! No parsnips or red cabbage though…

snowmanshoes · 31/12/2022 14:06

boxing day ham as haven’t done it and got all
the sides etc

Always4Brenner · 31/12/2022 14:06

Beef mash Yorkshire puds cauliflower cheese sprouts carrots.

AudTheDeepMinded · 31/12/2022 14:13

Maple glazed gammon (which this thread has reminded me to get out to defrost, thanks!). Probably with Dauphinois potatoes and veg. Rhubarb and Honeycomb icecream for pudding. I'm veggie so will settle for a quorn escalope.

Purplebunnie · 31/12/2022 14:13

FlamingJingleBells · 31/12/2022 10:17

A salmon wellington with roasted veg and a lemon cheesecake.

I'm getting my coat, can I have directions please

Crispynoodle · 31/12/2022 14:13

Beef bourginnon with mashed potatoes and fine green beans

WinterFoxes · 31/12/2022 14:15

I love something fresh and light on NYD, so usually poached or baked salmon in a fresh lemon and dill sauce with new potatoes and lots of minted green veg. That's what we're having tomorrow but I need to work out how to do a tofu equivalent for the veggies.

FestiveCrunch · 31/12/2022 14:22

Duck pancakes with hoisin sauce and lots of spring onion and cucumber 😋

stargirl1701 · 31/12/2022 14:24

Always a steak pie here on Ne'er's Day.

Nofurme · 31/12/2022 14:31

I’m having lamb, managed to get it in Tesco when they were half price. Such a bargain 😁

Snap. My freezers half full of them. And beef. Will see us until Easter.

ginslinger · 31/12/2022 14:45

kedgeree

Inkpotlover · 31/12/2022 14:45

Normally on a Sunday we have a roast but none of us can face it after an epic Christmas dinner so we're having sausage, mash and beans!
