Off to the shops this morning to pick up something for tomorrows dinner. What do you eat for dinner on New Years day?

I'd like to do roast lamb but lamb is so expensive!

Always a second roast with red meat. Play games, watch movies have special treats - it’s still Christmas season for us.

Same here. While the kids are still on their holidays, the tree stays up and the fun and games continue.

Scottish , so steak pie for us.

Will be served with roast tatties, buttered mash, steeped peas and truffle pigs in blankets 😋

cheshirecatssmile · 01/01/2023 08:38

Roast as it's a Sunday
Asked the troops what meat they wanted, lamb or beef. Went Aldi and managed to get ham, lamb and beef! As was all half price!
Now to vote which we are actually having

TheChristmasElf · 01/01/2023 10:21

HNY everyone!! 🥳

Im Scottish but grew up in a house where my English DF did the cooking so steak pie wasn’t a tradition for us as we generally had family visiting for a nice dinner and party day. DH grew up with a much simpler NYD, steak pie etc and MIL likes to make a big thing every year that we don’t have steak pie!! 🤣

This year we are having

S - Celeriac, hazelnut and Truffle oil soup.

M - HM Beef Wellington (Salmon en croute for the veggies) (DH picked up a bargain filet chateaubriand) Brussels with pancetta and chestnuts, carrots cooked in butter and fondant potatoes

D - Christmas pudding and Brandy cream.

dementedpixie · 01/01/2023 10:22

Salmon isn't vegetarian @TheChristmasElf

vinoandbrie · 01/01/2023 11:09

Roast chicken dinner here, and then Christmas pudding, can’t wait!

familyissues12345 · 01/01/2023 11:11

We're going out for an Indian! Can't wait Grin

Theemptychair23 · 01/01/2023 13:21

Gammon with new potatoes, roast potatoes, parsnips, veg etc.
We have a nice cheesecake for after.

Theneverendingdrama · 01/01/2023 14:01

I am stuffed!

With the lamb being so expensive, I didnt buy anything for starters but had chicken wings in the fridge. I made half bbq flavoured and half peri peri and breadcrumbs.

For main it was lamb, roasties, carrots, sprouts, stuffing, yorkshire puddings, bread sauce and gravy.

I've had to come for a lie down but will be up again shortly to go to Dsis for dessert.

Happy new year to you all. I hope you enjoy your dinners.

Steak pie, mash, veggies, skirlie!

BEE08 · 01/01/2023 14:53

As a child/teen we always had, scampi, peas, onion rings and chips. So we have that as are tradition as well in our house. (DS who is 3 will probably have fish fingers and a couple do scampi to try.)

OrangeCinnamonLatte · 01/01/2023 15:18

I'd love to see some steak pies too!
I'm sitting here scrolling when I should be peeling potatoes for Chicken, leek and ham pie (topped with mash).

I want to start a steak pie tradition though 😋

SenecaFallsRedux · 01/01/2023 15:28

I'm in the Southern US; we are having the traditional New Year's dinner of black-eyed peas, greens (in our case spinach although collards or turnip greens are more traditional), pork (leftover Christmas ham for us), and cornbread.

AdoraBell · 01/01/2023 15:40

Pub lunch 😁 local wasn’t an option, they clearly had a good party 🎉 last night. Next one, walking distance, does better food anyway. Had roast beef, delicious 😋

Mirabai · 01/01/2023 15:57

We usually have fish as no-one can face any more rich roasted food by the 1st.

Today we had monkfish with prawns and sauce verte, roast fennel with lemon and olive oil, fine beans, and garlic mushrooms. Then we had a selection of sheep, goats and cows cheese. And for pudding - tarte tatin with fresh custard.

Is it the food or something else? @Theneverendingdrama

Blossomtoes · 01/01/2023 16:18

We’re having pasta. I’m sick of food, it would be beans on toast left to my en devices.

Blossomtoes · 01/01/2023 16:18

Own devices, even!

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 01/01/2023 17:33
