Read lots of posts on here people saying they are looking forward to a nice break over Christmas.
How long do you have off? Do you have to book leave?
I work shifts. They've fallen ok just before Christmas so I break up on 21st but then I'm back in on period between Christmas & New Year.

I work in retail. So this year im off Xmas eve and Xmas day. But I have used the last of my AL to take off most of January 😂

Sprogonthetyne · 11/12/2022 07:52

I work in a university, last shift is on Wednesday then that's me until the 10th Jan. Its my first Christmas in this job so can't wait.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 11/12/2022 07:55

Works been mad busy all year so haven't been able to take as much leave as I would have liked so I'm taking a big block over Xmas. I finish on 16th and go back on 5th Jan, and I'm still carrying 2 weeks of leave over to next year which I'll have to use by end of March.

Lucky91 · 11/12/2022 09:42

I finish on the 16th and go back 3rd January.

CeriB82 · 11/12/2022 09:59

local government so i have to book leave. Off 26/27 anyway. Then work 28/29/30 as im busy. We can’t be off.

FlamingJingleBells · 11/12/2022 10:06

I finish on the 23rd Dec and return on the 4th of Jan. I deliberately went for a term time job to fit in with family life plus I didn’t fancy the annual Christmas holiday allocation fight.

Dreamwhisper · 11/12/2022 10:12

Since having DC I've either been off on mat leave, working part time so have extra days off around Christmas or I've been fortunate to have my leave approved.

This is the first year I'm not booking off any annual leave; we finish at 3pm on the 23rd and then will have bank holidays and closure days taking me through to 3rd January without having to book leave.

Next year I'll probably try and book leave again but I started a new job in the summer and have a larger team, and I WFH now anyway so it's not quite the same as being out all day while the DC are home from school.

Finish on the 20th and back on 3rd. Can’t wait

MakingNBaking · 11/12/2022 10:23

I'm in care home management and covering several overnights, which means basing myself at one office (no wfh) but ready to travel to other setting if needed so I'm working Xmas night and Boxing Night, then a few days off, then NY Eve, NY night, and the BH night. Next year the rota falls even worse for me!
But it comes with the job...sigh.

rotree · 11/12/2022 10:28

DH off work from 16th-3rd
I'm off from 24th-3rd.
For many many years either myself or DH only had Christmas Day off (one of us then having Christmas Eve and the other having Boxing Day).

Now we have both changed career and one of the best things about it is having time off (paid) over Christmas. My company give us the time off paid in lieu of a Christmas bonus- so we get to keep our holiday and we also get a Christmas party. I don't want to miss out anymore

EwDavid · 11/12/2022 10:47

Husband and I are both nurses so we've had many years of patching Christmas together around our shifts. I left nursing last year however (still in the NHS) and have managed to book three weeks off. I break up on the 23rd and don't go back until the 16th Jan. There are no words to say how excited I am.

CrackersCheeseAndWinePlease · 11/12/2022 10:48

I break up on Friday the 16th and back on the 3rd

Darby3785 · 11/12/2022 11:10

I break up Wednesday 21st, I've booked annual leave until 9th January

I can't wait, need a break from the office politics!

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 11/12/2022 11:39

Work is open but skeleton staff. Last year I worked one day between Xmas and new year. This year I have it all off

snowmanshoes · 11/12/2022 12:27

Finish 23rd this year - couple of days to do in between Christmas and 3rd but my choice so can pick and choose so not complaining at all. January always hectic though - most stressful months Jan and Feb

Givenhud · 12/12/2022 06:46

I break up at lunchtime on the 21st then am only in one day up until 9th January. I don't mind going in for one day as it's a break from the kids!
