How many days off from work over Christmas?

Read lots of posts on here people saying they are looking forward to a nice break over Christmas.
How long do you have off? Do you have to book leave?
I work shifts. They've fallen ok just before Christmas so I break up on 21st but then I'm back in on period between Christmas & New Year.

None. Working between Xmas and new year and on call both weekends and all bank holidays.

silverclock222 · 10/12/2022 08:36

We close on 23rd and return on 3rd. Need to keep days from leave to cover this though I'm more than happy with this but others aren't but you can't please everyone. As a Manager I will probably work a couple of days in the office as likely will get a couple of weeks work done with no distractions which will be brilliant!

pinkpixie83 · 10/12/2022 08:38

Office is closed from the end of day 23rd till the 3rd Jan, I've booked two extra days so finish on the 21st.

Will have to log on occasionally to check for anything urgent but its nice to have a reasonable time off at Christmas after years of working in retail and hospitality.

familyissues12345 · 10/12/2022 08:38

I finish on the 20th and back on the 3rd. The office is closed between Christmas and new year, I work part time so have gained a few extra days at the start/end and I had one last AL day to take so I've taken the 21st off.

Looking forward to it!

Hardbackwriter · 10/12/2022 08:39

My work is closed from midday on the 23rd until Jan 3 - but I've got the 22nd off and don't work Fridays and I'm then on leave until the 5th (because that's when DS1 goes back to school) so I'm off for ages!

rookiemere · 10/12/2022 08:40

I have to say when DS was younger, I really enjoyed working right up to Christmas and in between ( office job). I never normally got to go for lunches out because of childcare rushing around, but as DH was home it was a lot more relaxed than normal.

BamBamBilla · 10/12/2022 08:41

I've booked 3 days leave but have 10 days off. So break up on the 23rd for the weekend, 2 Bank hol on the Mon, Tues, my 3 days leave, 2 day weekend and then bank hol for the new year.

YoSofi · 10/12/2022 08:42

I break up on the 15th, back at work the 28th and 29th then off until the 3rd January.

BrieAndChilli · 10/12/2022 08:42

My work is giving us an extra 3 days annual leave to cover between Xmas and new year so we all finish on 23rd and then back in on the 3rd Jan.

LaurieFairyCake · 10/12/2022 08:44

Finish 19th, start 2nd

Longest break I will have had off in 12 years Shock

Itsthewhitehat · 10/12/2022 08:45

Our work closes on the 24th and opens on 3rd. We get bank holidays off. So it’s 3 days leave.

Some years it’s 4 days. They always tell us at the end of one year, how many days we need to keep for the year after.

AriettyHomily · 10/12/2022 08:45

I've run out of holiday so working the days in between Christmas and new year this year.

Els1e · 10/12/2022 08:46

I’ve booked 2 days leave on 22nd and 23rd. Back to work on 27th. So looking forward to it. 🍷

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 10/12/2022 08:47

2 days for me, it’s nice Christmas is linked to the weekend

Numbat2022 · 10/12/2022 08:48

The office is closed from Christmas Eve until the new year, so I don't need to use holiday for that - a wonderful thing! A lot of our clients are closed too.

I finish on the 21st and I think I'll go back on the 4th or 5th, haven't decided yet as I have holiday to carry over.

I have worked in retail and hated it, I was working when shops first started opening for Boxing Day and it ruins your Christmas knowing you have to get up.

neveradullmoment99 · 10/12/2022 08:48

I finish on 22nd Dec. Not back until the 9th Jan!
Cannot wait😃

Museya15 · 10/12/2022 08:50

I'm on an early Christmas eve, late Christmas day and off boxing day.

MajorCarolDanvers · 10/12/2022 08:50

3 full weeks off.

I finish on Friday 16th December and start back on Monday 9th January.

I have a lot of leave and TOIl to use. Work for a charity.

Athenen0ctua · 10/12/2022 08:51

I have Christmas eve and the three days between Christmas and New Year, taken out of holiday entitlement. I'd prefer yo take the days in the summer to be honest.

We are closed but we still have to take it as holiday. Do you get paid?

BringBackTeletext · 10/12/2022 08:53

I work in a primary school.

Finish on the 16th - SLT are gifting support staff an hour off, so can leave at 2pm. Back for new term on 3rd.

Will dip in and out of stuff when I can though, as I support vulnerable families - either remote or will pop into school as it’s 10 yards from home and we have a holiday club running 🎄

gogohmm · 10/12/2022 08:54

I'm taking annual leave, my choice to save them up. Dsd's work is shutting 23-3, dd is on leave for 2 weeks.

2pinkginsplease · 10/12/2022 08:55

Ai used to work in hospitality so there were no days off at Christmas . I don't understand why people don't stay at home on Christmas day anyway I now work in early years and I finish the 23rd until the 4th Jan.

My teen is working 12-5 Christmas eve and 1- finish on Christmas Day. Finish can be anytime between 8 and 9.

Angelicapickles1 · 10/12/2022 08:56

I only work 3 days a week one being a Saturday so taken both Christmas Eve and New Years Eve as AL so off 22nd back in for 28th /29th then off till the 4th. Will be nice to spend some quality time with DH who works in a school so is also off for 2 weeks

mumonthehill · 10/12/2022 08:56

Off from 21st, we are gifted leave between Christmas and new year so go back beginning of Jan.
