Breakfast on Christmas morning

What does everyone have for breakfast on Christmas morning?

Is it tradition? Do you change it up every year?

We try to have something a bit special and change it up every year, in recent years we've had- pancakes, pannatone french toast, bacon sandwiches (not so fancy 🤣) our favourite childhood cereals, bake at home pain au chocolat. So I'm kind of stuck for this year.... hit me with your suggestions 🥰

Smoked salmon and cream cheese baguettes, or pastries, or fancy eggs 😋

We have Bacon Sandwiches , usually the kids dont finish though as stuffed on chocolate treats from stockings😂

We have something nice, but not ridiculously hard work.

So Eggs Benedict or Eggs Royale or smoked salmon and scrambled eggs or caviar (lumpfish, we're not made of money!) on toast/melba toast. Something like that.

Kids, now teens, generally aren't interested in anything other than stocking chocolate!

A lot of coffee. Bucks fizz, croissants if my parents are with us, bacon sandwich or toast if not.

I like the idea of a fancy Christmas breakfast, but to be honest I like Christmas morning with as little time spent in the kitchen as possible.

This has made me cry thinking of my late parents. Dad would make tea and toast for everyone. Lashings of butter.Mum would be busy peeling sprouts whilst I’d be buried under a mountain of toys. Oh enjoy these family times people. I know our families annoy us but bloody hell you miss them when they are gone...Sorry didn’t mean to bring down the thread! Bacon butties here , as if we won’t be eating enough pig throughout the day with pigs in blankets etc. !

Smoked salmon scrambled eggs blinis.
Eggs benedict, eggs florentine.
Always lovely fresh baked bread.
Had fancy expensive sausages and crusty bread once.
Sometimes full English breakfast.
We eat Xmas meal at 3pm though. Breakfast at 10am ish, after stocking opening. Lots of grazing and booze and presents and chocolates in between 10 and 3.

@Puffalicious

Always scrambled eggs, smoked salmon and bagels with fresh squeezed orange juice. It's a tradition and the DCs love it- I love it particularly as DH does it!

Ooo bagels!

As a kid I always had porkpie & a mug of milk but nowadays I usually have creamcheese & smoked salmon bagels.

I quite enjoy a pork pie 🥧

1/2 tin of quality street if I'm off work and going to have my Christmas dinner.

If I'm working and missing dinner I have a bacon and fried egg roll.

@purplecup

I do croissants, bagels, crumpets, fruit salad and little chocolates with crackers to pull. It's very little fuss as apart from the fruit salad I just have to heat something up. It's become our favourite tradition for Christmas morning.

Why have I never thought of having crackers at breakfast time that is an amazing idea 😍

If we're going to 'do' anything it's bagels and cream cheese. But normally we have a very light breakfast (toast butter & jam) and save all that tummy room for Xmas Dinner!

When I was younger we'd have croissants and Buck's Fizz. As I got older and my parents started going back to midnight mass and there wasn't so much to do Father Christmas wise, we used to drive to Brick Lane's 24 hour bagel shop and buy bagels for breakfast with smoked salmon and champagne.

Now I have my own kids it's bacon and eggs for breakfast. Or pancakes.

Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs on toast with coffee and champagne. Unless we're having smoked salmon as a starter for lunch, in which case we have cinnamon buns (we make them Christmas Eve and they rise over night somewhere cool).

I quite like the idea of cinnamon buns. Are they hard to make?

Now I have a partner and young DC we do Christmas at home so we are at the point of creating our traditions :)

Oldest DC is five this year and will get it properly for the first time so I want to start nailing this down too. Things I have been pondering:

  • Some kind of "North Pole Breakfast" a la Pinterest
  • a Morning Tea (like afternoon tea) with mini pancakes with maple syrup, pastries, fruit and tiny sandwiches/mini hash browns. Served with a tea pot of Apple juice or something
  • Brioche French toast with bacon and strawberries just because they really like it

Oh yes or also fresh homemade cinnamon rolls! But might be too much of a faff for me

There was a great thread on this a few weeks ago. As a direct result of that thread, our Christmas day breakfast is going to be Krispy Kreme doughnuts (they do special Xmas ones!). I can't bloody wait!
