Breakfast on Christmas morning

What does everyone have for breakfast on Christmas morning?

Is it tradition? Do you change it up every year?

We try to have something a bit special and change it up every year, in recent years we've had- pancakes, pannatone french toast, bacon sandwiches (not so fancy 🤣) our favourite childhood cereals, bake at home pain au chocolat. So I'm kind of stuck for this year.... hit me with your suggestions 🥰

Always porkpie, maybe a slice of ham and then some pickle including a pickled onion. Has to be done.

I have croissant with butter and apricot jam and some scrambled eggs with avocado. Used to add smoked salmon but am veggie now.

DP prefers strawberry jam.

Also Bucks Fizz (though American and Aus best friends call it a mimosa 🙄)

Bucks fizz and fancy pants chocolate biscuits whilst opening stockings - Hotel chocolat or M&S Belgium chocolate ones normally. Been doing this for at least 40 years. There would be uproar if we tried to change it as it's now tradition set in stone!

You do realise this is the Christmas topic board Giraffey1. You know, the board where people discuss things related to Christmas Grin

As a kid we always had a traditional fry up with all the extras like black pudding, fresh fried tomatoes, mushrooms, kidneys sometimes Envy (not envy) , fried bread and toast, fresh juice, bucks fizz, coffee etc. It was a long drawn out affair which built up the excitement for tree presents. I always wanted to do the same because I don't like all the presents to be open immediately (we have stockings first thing). But DH has bacon and eggs most days so they aren't special and he doesn't like all the extras and the kids aren't too keen either. So we always tried to do something special but it changed the first few years and now all of them have become our tradition and we all have our favourite breakfast food. So we do pancakes, which the kids have with fruit and squirty cream in Santa faces, I have smoked salmon and homemade hollondaise sauce on mine, DH has streaky bacon and maple syrup and blueberries. We have pastries too, and we have Brew Co tea, nice coffee, Bucks Fizz or Snow balls. We used to make everything from scratch including pastries and now we buy everything ready made except the hollondaise (pastries from Lidl). So it's nice and easy but still special and drawn out. This keeps us going until an evening Christmas dinner.

Normally bacon baps, slug of whiskey in my tea and then start on the champers.

This year we are to MIL for Xmas lunch and her cooking is shocking so I might stuff face before I go. I like to make dates stuffed with blue cheese and wrapped in Parma ham to take to hers. And cranberry and pistachio cookies. No other bugger makes or takes anything as they are bloody tight and selfish. We all have to take our own alcohol though

I keep thinking about changing it but we enjoy ours.

Freshly squeezed OJ.
Large cafetière of good coffee.
Bacon rolls.
Freshly baked pastries - either M&S frozen ones or JusRol tubes
Fresh fruit salad - made day before or on the morning, and only using orange juice (from the orange peels cut off to segment the orangeS and maybe a small bit from the jug of juice) rather than stock syrup to keep it moist.

We don’t open alcohol until late afternoon as we go out to mass and for a family visit so need to drive for those. This year, we might go to the very local church rather than top of the hill one, and no visit, so I might do a Buck’s Fizz with breakfast.

DH makesc festive pancakes (shaped like snowmen, FC etc) and we have them with syrup and a selection of fruits. DS will be 3.5 this year so will probably let him have some chocolate with his stocking! DH always has biscuits too.

Bucks Fizz is a must.

Croissants, scrambled eggs, smoked salmon, fresh orange juice. We have our Christmas roast late afternoon / early evening once it's dark, lit by log fire and candlelight. So sometime after the Queen's speech. Sometimes there might be something light in the middle of the day to tide us over. DD made sushi last year which accompanied a glass of bubbly for grown-ups.

Love this thread!!
Love that anyone daring to challenge saying it's too early is soon shot down!!

Normally we have Bucks Fizz & biscuits out of the posh tin. Kids have Christmas tree crumpets.

I'm gonna take inspiration from this thread though.
Krispy Kreme do nuts for breakfast is a winner!!

I just have a bit of cereal and a brew, to be honest. My dad always likes to have Christmas Dinner at lunch time, and I never eat anything normally between breakfast and dinner, so my body always struggles with eating such a huge amount at lunchtime .. therefore I eat as little as possible at breakfast (normally have a good breakfast at 10.30 ish to see me through until dinner time) so that I'm sure I'll actually be hungry.

I have no idea why he insists on having dinner early. None of us eat our main meal in the middle of the day, and it just means he ends up getting up ridiculously early to start prepping things.

Smoked salmon omelette

Ingredients

3 free-range eggs
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
15g/½oz unsalted butter
40g/1½oz smoked salmon, roughly chopped
½ tsp olive oil

Method

Gently beat the eggs together in a mixing bowl and season, to taste, with salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Heat the butter in an omelette pan until foaming. Pour in the beaten eggs and cook for a few seconds, until the bottom of the omelette is lightly set.

Push the set parts of the omelette into the uncooked centre of the omelette. Cook again, until the omelette has set further, then push the set parts into the centre of the omelette again.

Repeat the process until the eggs have just set but the omelette is still soft in the centre.

Place the smoked salmon into the centre of the omelette and cook for 30 seconds.

Remove from the heat and tilt the pan slightly to move the omelette to the edge of the pan. Slide the omelette onto a serving plate, then shape it into a neat roll. Brush the omelette with olive oil and serve.

A real treat, enjoy your meal

Cereal for the kids. We go to an Indian on Christmas day about 1pm so we save ourselves for that. No cooking for me!
