Breakfast on Christmas morning

What does everyone have for breakfast on Christmas morning?

Is it tradition? Do you change it up every year?

We try to have something a bit special and change it up every year, in recent years we've had- pancakes, pannatone french toast, bacon sandwiches (not so fancy 🤣) our favourite childhood cereals, bake at home pain au chocolat. So I'm kind of stuck for this year.... hit me with your suggestions 🥰

100% better, not 10005. Fat bloody fingers!

We have one of those electric hot stone thingies with little mini pans that sits in the middle of the table. So I put out chipolatas, thin bacon, black pudding, eggs, pancake batter, mushrooms, tomatoes and everyone cooks their own. It's incredibly social and very little effort. We tend to rise early and don't eat dinner til 7 so a good breakfast is welcome. My teens love the novelty. We tend to do it for Christmas and birthdays.

@ktp100

If you have a local farm shop with a freezer section they tend to have ready to bake pastries that you prove overnight then bake fresh. 1005 better than shop bought and a real treat.

Hmm, yep, farm shop croissant with crispy streaky bacon and a bottle of fizzy before 10am.

Everyone else can have what they want

Ooh good ideas here! My oh is pescatarian. Tempted to make something like cream cheese, avocado and salmon on toast!

My son will likely stick to his crunch corner yogurts and croissants :) x

@crazyhairbear:

"I quite like the idea of cinnamon buns. Are they hard to make?"

Absolutely not, especially as we use a packet mix, this one: bakedin.co.uk/products/iced-cinnamon-buns-kit

(NB it's far cheaper from Waitrose).

Cinnamon and raisin bagels as of last year. Prior to that it was bacon sandwiches but it felt like a bit too much effort Grin

Coffee and panettone for us

Kids have those mini packs of Kellogg's cereal, which I only buy on special occasions and so they consider to be a huge treat!

Chocolate from stockings, pain au chocolat, croissants and Prosecco - orange juice optional Grin

As kids, we’d get a Kellogg’s mini cereal pack in our stocking so we’d have that with chocolate.

As we got older, it’s bacon sandwiches.

DHs family always have ham & cheese croissants so think we will probably go with that option, as it’s quicker to do.

Standard 3 coffees as I don't function without them and then usually porridge to line the stomach before everyone turns up for present giving (family all live locally) and the booze starts flowing.

Fucked if I'm going to cook anything before a big roast 🤔

Bacon sandwiches made with white sourdough from our local bakery. Usually a platter of them to share with whatever set of parents we aren’t hosting for Christmas dinner.

I thought the tradition was a selection box Grin!

Actually I usually buy those Christmas tree crumpets and frozen pain au chocolats I can chuck in whilst I'm prepping lunch. We aren't early risers. I'm secretly hoping that covid means it's just dinner for 2 this year!

@LatteLover12 I think most people eat Sunday dinner after 2pm and don't have three breakfasts beforehand... still, if it makes you happy it sounds lush.

Full English round the table, with Christmas morning muffins and butter. This is our tradition after all the pressies are unwrapped. We don’t need to worry about filling up before our Christmas lunch, as that happens on Boxing Day in our house! Christmas afternoon is about playing with the kids, watching telly and chilling. We then have a cheese a biscuit style buffet in the evening....perfect (for us!)

Tip if you like pastry / cinnamon buns but want something different - Aldi do a tear and
Share brioche loaf, one has vanilla filling and the other chocolate. Serve slightly warm with a fruit salad - unbelievably good (and not just at Christmas!)

Nigella's Christmas Morning Muffins with cranberries. Prepare everything the night before, bake for 15 minutes in the morning, smell gorgeous!
