Breakfast on Christmas morning

What does everyone have for breakfast on Christmas morning?

Is it tradition? Do you change it up every year?

We try to have something a bit special and change it up every year, in recent years we've had- pancakes, pannatone french toast, bacon sandwiches (not so fancy 🤣) our favourite childhood cereals, bake at home pain au chocolat. So I'm kind of stuck for this year.... hit me with your suggestions 🥰

Children like banana pancakes. I like scrambled egg. And DH has cereal like every other day of the year...

Toast points and home made marmalade on w white linen laid table with champagne and fresh juice.

Then salmon bilinis with more champagne.

Then a little sleep/movie/present opening then we start Christmas dinner.

Starter at lunch time -prawn cocktail.

Main at dinner time- turkey etc

Pudding - pavlova when we feel like it and cheese and biscuits with port or kingstone black digestive later later

@MrsGrindah FlowersFlowers

Also with regards to breakfast I am firmly in the camp of can't imagine having a big/cooked breakfast on the big day. How people manage a full English and then a Christmas Dinner is beyond me!

I'm making for the rest of the family but I myself just fine a few Christmas bits to nibble on. I am one to serve Christmas lunch between 2 and 3pm though, it seems downright weird to me to have it past 4pm 😅

My DH makes a batch of cinnamon rolls with cream cheese frosting. Served with fresh orange juice and Prosecco.

I have spring rolls and DH has mini party pizza bites

the kids usually arent too fussed (we offer but they never seem to want anything until dinner... think its the excitement of toys)

A fluffy bread pudding with hard sauce. I like bread pudding when it's light and fluffy, but not when it's dense and compact.

We have cereal, fruit, and coffee first thing. Then at about 10 we’ll have croissants and pain au chocolat, orange juice and champagne.

I also have no idea how our tradition of spring rolls and pizzas started and Im aware its a bit odd

its not a tradition we brought from childhood or anything but we have done it pretty much every year I can remember since we have been together

DH makes pancakes or we have pain au chocolat. Then lashings of tea and OJ. Good friends have Bloody Marys but if I started drinking that early there would be two lids on the saucepans and half the lunch would be forgotten in the fridge

I love a bacon sandwich. I love a sausage sandwich. A couple of years ago I had the brainwave of cooking some of the pigs in blankets for breakfast sandwiches Grin

Nutella Christmas tree

@KenDodd In Israel, we have this incredibly thick hot chocolate at coffee shops. It’s a decent handful of chocolate buttons, chunks and flakes in a cup, then warm milk (sometimes chocolate oat milk), then frothed milk on top with some chocolate powder. It looks perfectly white, like it’s just milk. You let it sit for a moment, and the solid chocolate begins to melt. You stir quickly, and the chocolate takes hold of the whole drink - it ends up more like hot, drinkable Nutella. It’s generally served with an additional chocolate, just in case you want a palate cleanser.

My eldest had it for the first time last Christmas, and he discovered that if you lift the spoon up mid stir, you get a curtain of chocolate you can catch with your mouth. I might show him that a spoon can be replaced with a flake for maximum chaos Grin

Chocolate. It's the only day of the year you get chocolate for breakfast. Although my DC have their usual cereal first as they're weird.

@LunaLoveFood what about Easter Sunday?

Growing up we always had slices of the Christmas ham on buttered toast with mustard and I have stuck to that tradition all my life. Now, with both my parents gone it feels like another way to stay connected to them.

Plus it's delicious Smile

Nothing, or just something small and basic like a slice of toast. We've gone to my grandparents for Christmas dinner for years, served at 1pm, so we wouldn't want to have a lovely breakfast then not be hungry for lunch time. The kids tend to snack on chocolate so that's enough.

This year will be different because we can't go to my grandparents. I'll be cooking just for the four of us and we'll probably eat late afternoon, so will have a decent breakfast. Maybe egg on toast or bacon sandwiches.

And of course Boxing Day breakfast is trifle

Report
Angel2702 · 27/09/2020 20:42

Usually rushing out the door as soon as presents opened and we’ve dressed. Usually breakfast consists of satsumas and chocolate from stockings and a hastily grabbbed slice of pizza from our Christmas Eve tea
