Afternoon.

Here we go again! It feels slightly bonkers setting off again before today is over, but it's tradition, so who am I to argue?!

They're in the fridge!

WreckTangled · 21/01/2020 16:39

I hate it at the opticians when the lenses touch your eye lashes it's freaky

NoWordForFluffy · 21/01/2020 16:58

And when their face looks right up at yours! 😱😱

NoWordForFluffy · 21/01/2020 16:59

I need to give an electricity meter reading and I'm dreading it Sad we pay a monthly direct debit but I'm so worried we will be in loads of debit and they'll want to put it up loads

NoWordForFluffy · 21/01/2020 19:14

I always refuse the increase and cancel the DD. They soon see sense!

I always refuse the increase. Our last bill showed a bit increase in usage and we don't know why. Also we've got a whole new heating system which we're using for the first time. But we also have solar panels now so who knows. I can't compare with last time as we have a new meter too and have gone from two readings to one.

I saw that thread. Ours is by no means excessive but we've got from storage heaters to an air source heat pump on a standard rate. We decided not to go for the deal with the peak/off peak rates as all the off peak times were either when we are at work or in bed so wouldn't be able to take advantage of them. I'm just nervous because we literally can't afford any more. Apparently the solar panels are only for the water. Also a few years back we always started sinter in credit ££££ but since they brought in the rule where they have to give you the money if you're in a big amount of credit we've had to switch so end winter in debit and pay it off over summer if that makes sense? I really do understand why some people prefer having a key meter!

Wreck I'm so glad they reached you! DH came home with an extra 2 packs so we shared one and I sent the extra one on up - seemed pointless to send you just 1 bag!

It's when the optician is right in your face for me too Fluffy. When they shine the light in and get up close to have a good look 🤢

I hate the way they calculate fuel bills. Like you Wreck we always end up in credit over the summer and debt over the winter - why they can't add it all up, average it out and stop faffing is beyond me!

I'm just home. I went out for tea (was good and had steak with jacket potato) then did the food shop so I can make sure I behave for the rest of the week!

WreckTangled · 21/01/2020 21:10

Thanks flouncy. I'll see what the bill is before I panic too much. Still worried though!

That's so kind crazy, I checked the massive Tesco in the city again yesterday and they still didn't have any!

Mumbassa · 21/01/2020 23:35

What are you looking for? wreck, I can keep an eye out for you

WreckTangled · 22/01/2020 06:58

Mrs I think they're only available in Tesco! Thanks flouncy Grin I promise not to put them on eBay if I get more 😋

Mum it's the chocolate orange mini eggs.

Nothing exciting today. Just work. Oh actually I'm awaiting a special delivery so that I can get the blood sugar readings from my flash glucose monitor straight onto the screen of my Fitbit. Should be delivered today Grin it was expensive though.

WreckTangled · 22/01/2020 06:58

Oh and it alarms if I'm going too high or low which is brilliant as I spent all night last night hypo and didn't realise until I woke up and looked at the data.

Morning!

I've not been in a Tesco since you showed us those eggs. I'll go next week though as they've sent us more money off vouchers!

Another gloomy day here. Not raining but not dry either.

That's a fancy bit of kit, Wreck!

whydoesitalwayshappentome · 22/01/2020 08:06

Good morning everyone. Just caught up as I have been working and for some reason the mumsnet app does not work in the staff room. On a late today so in bed for now.

Quite an adventure with the car Fluffy. You are excellent at sorting things though so go flatten them :D

okiedokieme · 22/01/2020 08:13

I thought you were all crazy when I first saw this thread BUT just had an invite for New Year 2020! Talk about organised, ive not paid my credit card bill for this years fun yet!

Mumbassa · 22/01/2020 09:23

wreck there’s a Tesco superstore not far from me so I will keep an eye out for you love. Your fit bit sounds very swanky.

It’s cloudy and quite foggy here, you’d expect it to be warm, wouldn’t you?!. I can’t hack this side of winter.

We’re watching alphablocks and they’re spelling out sleep and peace, it’s making me awful tired😂. I don’t have much on today, I might have a looksie into the high street later as DS1 needs some new school shoes as he scuffed his up at nursery. Have a good day all!

Mrsmadevans · 22/01/2020 09:26

Morning everyone 😀
Weather is dank and dark, mild and miserable 🙄
Wreck l have been finding Oreo eggs, M n M eggs , tiny cream eggs , you name it l have seen it , except the ones you want Wreck 🙄🤪
That blood sugar device sounds excellent 👌. I know it was expensive BUT... I feel it's such a necessity to be proactive & look after our health . So well done to you Wreck🤗👏💐
Fluffy your weather sounds like ours 🙄 l hate the misery of it all 🙄
I have news on the house front , DD is eligible for a Cardiff council housing initiative , namely they have 8 x 2 bed new build houses for first time buyers on a Bellway new build site . The house is a 2 bedroom semi detached new build. It's a 20 mins commute from her work, it's on a bus run as well, bus stop less than a min away.
Cardiff is on a terrible flood plane but this site is called Highfields so guess what , it is up high and not affected by floods from anywhere 👏😄👍
So basically, I registered her name last December with the scheme, just because it was worth a try never dreaming they would accept her for the scheme. So we went to look at this house on the Bellway site yesterday it is perfect for her. Across the way within walking distance is Pontprennau with loads of shops, a retail park , Drs dentist's etc . The house is on a shared equity . Dd2 can buy 65% with a mortgage/deposit and the Council/non profit charity organization Harmoni Homes hold 35% until she wants to move or she can stay in it forever until the day she dies and not have to pay anything else. No rent to pay either just mortgage .There are no service charges either. Only thing is there is some noise from the motorway because they are up high and sound travels. It's not terrible, you can hear it in the garden but not in the house. No pylons or electric substation , a drive for her car , south facing, small private garden , when we were there we saw neighbours popping into each other's houses , which we thought was brilliant. They are youngsters by the look of it. It's not rough or at least not yet lol 😂 wait till Dd2 gets there .So we are going to see it again on Tuesday to make our minds up. I am on tenterhooks as you can imagine. These houses are available for every first time buyer but the application form and the information they want is absolutely off putting to say the least , it is nigh on impossible to negotiate the website and l have just rung and rung ppl for explanation after explanation. I have been like Fluffy and turned over every Stone 😄
Dd2 can 'staircase' if she wants to buy the house outright, after 3 yrs in 10% stages, the Housing officer said 'why bother and l suppose she is right. I did worry about reselling but in all honesty I don't see her needing to sell ever. It seems perfect , l do have my worries of course. It seems very safe there though, it's on a Bellway housing site the other house are all private, next door to her is a 3 bed Bellway house the ppl have paid 260k for , Cardiff council are trying to get first time buyers on the housing ladder with these initiatives. So what do you all think? Pray tell 🤗.
The house is not under any covenant , only thing is she cannot sublet it until she owns it outright. She can rent a room out while she lives there though. The house on the open market is £195000, Dd2 has to pay /mortgage £126,750 ie 65%
So what do you all think please let me know what you all think 😊 l would really appreciate it 🤗
