Beauty advent calendars 2018

InfinityGauntlet · 26/08/2018 23:00

Just noticed vogue published their favourite beauty advent calendars for 2018 - with prices and release dates here (don’t look if you want surprises as you can see what are inside some of the calendars.

Is anyone planning on getting one or more this year? Which looks the best?
I know my dd would love the look fantastic one, I can only dream of the diptyque one, or Liberty if they release one again this year [santa]

ESPA one looks beautiful, just the packaging alone is gorgeous! Realistically the Cath Kidston one is more my price range!

VanillaMapleSyrup · 27/08/2018 08:54

I'd like the Liberty one again. There was a thread about it last year which I had to hide as everyone was moaning about it - " so disappointed in this Stila blusher, I don't like the colour" - but I loved it.

DH wants the Aldi wine calendar again Grin

FannyAdmin · 27/08/2018 09:17

I got the L'Occitane one last year and really liked it. I'm not sure what I'd like this year, maybe the Milton Brown one 🤔.

nothanksbyenow · 27/08/2018 09:19

Squee, I am totally getting myself one this year, maybe liz Earle. Also want the rituals one for a good friend, glad to see it’s a 24 days one.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/08/2018 09:22

Ooh, might be the Rituals one for me...Xmas Grin

I like the look of the Look Fantastic and M&S but I'd need to check the contents before (which kind of spolis it) to make sure it's all Cruelty Free .

FannyAdmin · 27/08/2018 09:27

😄 at Clinique's 14 day one - does that have some significance that I'm not aware of?

I think I'm out actually - these are only good value if you'd use and appreciate all of the products. I think I'll just buy myself some nice hand creams (which I'll definitely use) from L'Occitane, and a limited edition hot cloth cleanser from Liz Earle.

InfinityGauntlet · 27/08/2018 09:39

So exciting isnt it!

I didn’t see the thread moaning about the Liberty one - I thought it looked really nice though!

My mil would love the espa one, but may be weird to give an advent calendar as a Christmas gift Grin

I agree it’s only worth it if you use the products, it’s definitely a novelty, but I do really like them! I hate when you have an expensive calendar and get a few crap filler gifts though - was it clarins that had gift tags behind a door last year? Hmm

I’ve had the Liberty one for the last 2 years.....am hoping again
I kept the empty boxes and last year I made one for my Sister using the first years empty box
She loved it
I still have last years empty box and have looked at it again today, after seeing this thread
Not sure whether to make another for my sister or not

FannyAdmin · 27/08/2018 09:50

Aw, Nana, I think you should since she loved it. What did you fill it with?

Nanasueathome · 27/08/2018 09:57

I’m a beauty shopaholic and had loads of stuff that I hadn’t used
She also smokes (she’s tried no end of times to give up but has never been successful) so I got my son to bring 200 Marlboro from abroad and put 2 packets into 5 of the boxes for her
She lives away from me but her friend lives nearby and she was going to visit her on 2nd December so took the calendar down then
My sister has no willpower whatsoever and I know she peeped and took out the cigarettes straight away....she just couldn’t wait

PurpleWithRed · 27/08/2018 10:09

I loved my M&S one last year because of a) the price and b) it wasn’t all one brand. It was also full of stuff I had no idea what to do with which was quite entertaining. Will be getting that for myself again this year definitely.

Fstar · 27/08/2018 11:58

PrimalLass · 27/08/2018 12:14

I'm always happy with the M&S one.

Deux · 27/08/2018 13:49

Thanks for the reminder. I’ve only bought the M &S one, mostly because it's a good price and I’m always in M & S getting Xmas presents. I don’t use all the items but I give my student niece the items I won’t use. The calendar has kept my 10 yo Dd is elasticiser too.

I quite fancy the Holland and Barret beauty one.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/08/2018 13:56

I wonder what's in the H&B one , is it all cruelty free?

I don't wear make-up but I like a few shower gels and soaps.

I did my own Advent for DD last year , I bought travel sized , some sets I split up , free gifts in magazines and some make-up things, in clear bags with a ribbon and a fancy 1-24 sticker.
She was so pleased she wants the same this year , so I need to start looking Xmas Grin
DD is cruelty free and high end (I applaud her ethics but she is an £££ girl to maintain)

HLBug · 27/08/2018 14:01

Ohh this is exciting news. I've had liberty for the last two years - swore last year I would try something different this year...but...it's so beautiful! M&S always good and the John Lewis one looks good too.

Does anyone remember the poster who did a day-by-day account of the House of Fraser one last year? The calendar was truly awful, but the thread was hilarious! Guessing they won't be bringing one out this year.

InfinityGauntlet · 27/08/2018 16:19

Thanks for the extra links! I’m torn with the feel unique one for dd, I’ve made ones before so not sure for this year, she’s had he benefit ones as she loves them but I think they’re crap tbh!

I love the Charlotte tilbury one too, but I’d rather spend the money on something I’d really want rather than lots of minis I might not use.

Interested to see what’s in the Holland and Barrett one....

I had look fantastic last year and M&S the year before. I was really pleased with both. This year though I really want the liberty one! Might have to tuck the pennies away and save up for it.

violet0805 · 27/08/2018 16:46

I really wanted the Essie nail varnish one last year but it was about £80. My birthday is early December and by my birthday it was reduced to £25! I'll never buy one before the 1st again

The M&S one wasn’t good last year

Didsomeonesaybunny · 27/08/2018 16:58

Watching with interest - I am obsessed with beauty advents. Last year I had the Liberty calendar which I loved. This year I may treat myself to the Diptyque, I love the brand. I hear Harrod's is very good.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/08/2018 16:58

H&B is a 12 item calender (well that's no good )

The M&S one is only available till end Nov , it vanishes on Dec 1st. (So no chance of a cut price bargain)

I bought an Aldo one a few years back, IIRC it was £20 , there were glass phials of various serum and maybe 4-5 tubes that lasted a couple of days. I haven't seen it repeated though.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/08/2018 16:58

Aldi not Aldo

nickdrakeslovechild · 27/08/2018 20:29

I was hoping there would be a NYX one again this year but cant see it mentioned.
