Beauty advent calendars 2018

Just noticed vogue published their favourite beauty advent calendars for 2018 - with prices and release dates here (don’t look if you want surprises as you can see what are inside some of the calendars.

Is anyone planning on getting one or more this year? Which looks the best?
I know my dd would love the look fantastic one, I can only dream of the diptyque one, or Liberty if they release one again this year [santa]

I also like the L'Occitane calendar purely because it doesn't contain make up. I am very happy to try all the different body and skincare products that are included, but I would consider it a waste of money to buy one that was full of make up products. I have occasionally considered buying the m&s or one or two of the others that have decent reviews, but the amount of make up they contain would make them far too expensive, especially as I have no one I could pass any of the products to (neither of my DILs are big on make up and I have no daughters or nieces).

Does anyone know the date that the Liberty calendar is released this year? It's normally the 20-something-th of October, but given it normally sells out within a few days I'd like to mark the precise date in my calendar so I don't miss out!

Fstar · 09/09/2018 23:23

It might depend on which one you want, the higher end ones sell out pretty quickly but now they are more popular you might have a better chance of getting one.

I got the cheapest body shop one which is on sale now. Utube show lots of advent openings which is great. Also check these out

Ive had loccitane and rituals and liked both.

The Liberty calendar seems very quiet this year. I'm on their mailing list so I'll report back. Yes, it's about the middle of October.

MorrisZapp · 10/09/2018 13:42

Yay! It's that time of year when weird Percy and Reed haircare items end up in landfill. See also: freebies on magazines.

Nobody believes it's a luxury brand, they can't give it away!

I got the M&S one last year. It was OK but a few doubles (two night creams) and an unusable nail polish.

But, the packaging was divine. I emptied it and filled it with sweets for DS. Then filled it with cosmetics again for neices Christmas!

This years doesn't look as pretty.

Nanasueathome · 10/09/2018 13:48

Liberty launch is 24th October

moocowmrs · 10/09/2018 13:48

Does anyone know if you can have the loccitaine calendar delivered on the day it is released, so a pre order really I suppose the 20th sept is my sis 40th and would like to get it for her to be delivered on the day.

NothingWithoutEffort · 10/09/2018 14:06

I had the L'Occitane one last year. I really liked it for toiletries to take on trips etc. I dithered about buying it for a while, then there was a good offer that could be used for a reasonable discount.

bananasandwicheseveryday · 15/09/2018 08:22

sign here for early notice of loccitane calendar release date for anyone who is interested. @moocowmrs I think that is first date you can place an order, but they arrived quite quickly last year - could you make her a 'gift certificate' in the meantime? If you have a shop near you, they might let you have a couple of their sample sachets to give her a taste of what's coming? I'd definitely be happy to wait a few days for this.

WhatchaMaCalllit · 21/09/2018 17:27

I was in a local Boots store on Wednesday and they had the Sleek advent calendar available for I think either 45 or 50 euro.

moocowmrs · 21/09/2018 17:29

Well in the end they took an order on the 19th was delivered on my sisters birthday and she was thrilled so all good !

changedToday · 23/09/2018 16:40

As others have said, I'm also looking for one without makeup, had the occitaine one last year but it looks like this year's is virtually identical unless I trade up to the luxe version. That's a bit more than I was hoping to spend though. Had a look at the Vogue list, the Morris & co one seems to have quite a few repetitions, and the Kath kidston is mostly lip balms and hand creams/cuticle creams? The body shop ones have too much make up and 'things' I'd never use. Has anyone got any clever suggestions or am I too picky?

Sunflowers79 · 23/09/2018 17:32

Am toying between Espa or Loccitane - can’t decide. Anyone have the Espa one last year?

Nanasueathome · 23/09/2018 18:21

Decleor have their 2018 advent calendar on the website
Costs £80 with value over £250

EZA15 · 24/09/2018 00:15

I bought the Decleor one last year, I was really disappointed in it. Lots of mini tester size products which I didn’t feel was worth the price of the calendar

ChoccyJules · 30/09/2018 19:14

I was looking at the Sleek one on the Boots website, not heard of the brand, is it ok?

Nanasueathome · 30/09/2018 20:19

The Fortnum and Mason calendar is available from tomorrow, 1st, October

The beauty one? it is available now?

Nanasueathome · 30/09/2018 21:05

The Fortnum one is available now for pre-order and delivery is after 5th October
I’m my excitement I was confused with the dates....sorry

ArrivisteRevolt · 30/09/2018 21:35

I am completely confused (but into) these advent calendars. It would be amazing to get one as a present but I don’t really see how buying it for yourself works out.

I get that they are great value of you use all the products - but who uses all the products? Would it not be better just to take the cash and buy the full size products?

Didsomeonesaybunny · 30/09/2018 21:48

@arriviste - beauty advent calendars are a great way to try new products as there are lots of sample sizes, indeed I’ve fallen in love with new brands this way. Travel products come in really handy too when I’m away. Some of the beauty calendars include full sizes and sample sizes, a bit of a mix!

TruelyTruelyScrumptious · 30/09/2018 21:59

I sold the ones from the liberty one that I didn't like on ebay and got back almost the entire cost.

imp2007 · 30/09/2018 22:15

Does anyone know if you can buy the Fenwick calendar online? I'm in Cornwall with no chance of getting to a store?

PurpleFlowersInMyHair · 30/09/2018 23:23

Does anyone know of fragrance advent calendars

I had the liberty one last year and was disappointed- too many cleansers (I think there were 5). Also some crap products I wouldn’t use like cuticle cream and Brow Oil. But it is down to individual preference I guess.

In contrast I loved the look fantastic calendar- it was amazing and I used the vast majority.

I’ve not bought anything since except mascara and still using most of the products so they’ve both been good value combined- my skin and makeup has improved- plus I’ve discovered great new products I will rebuy. So I’ve actually saved money.

This year I’m considering the M&S calendar but I night not get it as I still have lots of product left from last year!

Nanasueathome · 01/10/2018 10:22
