Tesco delivery - Mini Disaster!

IamChipmunk · 22/12/2016 22:10

Anyone else suffer this today?

We have delivery saver so booked slot ages ago. I do a Sainsburys shop for fresh stuff (luckily) so Tesco is all the drinks, random bits like jam and trifle stuff and everyday things like bread, milk, loo roll etc.

Slot booked for 4-5 today. Voicemail at 1.30 from Tesco to say that due to a system failure in store the order has been cancelled! Xmas ShockXmas ConfusedXmas Angry

Cue dash this afternoon to asda after printing my Tesco list off to get the shopping. I couldn't face trying to do it all at sainsburys in the morning with a 2yr old and 5mo baby in tow!

Tesco apologised and have given a £100 'refund' as a goodwill gesture which is nice.

I'm feeling lucky that it's only the 22nd and im on maternity leave so I can just get it sorted without much bother. Feel sorry for anyone who was relying on the online delivery though.

Never happened before, typical it would be the Christmas Shop!

I just had an email from Asda to say my order this evening would have 17 substitutes. All random, for example Yule Log replaced with 'Party Cake'. Also one item with no available substitute - the Turkey! I just cannot believe there is not one Turkey or Turkey related item in the whole of a massive superstore. Not even a chicken, duck or goose! It is ridiculous .

MerlinWizzard · 23/12/2016 20:38

Mine arrived minus the hobgoblin and missing 3 other items, but they weren't essential so all is good! Xmas Grin

Northernlurker · 23/12/2016 20:47

I did my shopping th old fashioned way by going to Waitrose at 8.30am. It was fine, as long as you were self scanning. Queues at tills were grim.
Turkey was preordered from huge m and s football to collect tonight - and that's where it went wrong. I couldn't quite work out the problem but basically they are moving very slowly and there seemed to be a lot of arguments at the tills. After forty minutes queueing I got my turkey and gravy and free milled wine which neither of us like. Think I'll just risk it and buy one in the shop next time.

StubbleTurnips · 23/12/2016 20:57

Northern it's still infamous in our local m&s about the turkey fight that happened at 7am on Xmas eve 2013. It was epic, police called and everything, we were about 6 people back in the queue eating complimentary fruit toast with coffee. That's entertainment!

Rachie1986 · 23/12/2016 20:57

Mumofblueeyes what are you going to do?
Another poster had 25subs and managed a refund so try similar at least?

Sunnysky2016 · 23/12/2016 21:01

Ocado delivery arrived and everything correct with no substitutions- only an addition
Of a bottle of wine as a present of Ocado Smile one happy bunny here

GloGirl · 23/12/2016 21:08

Ocado didn't give meee a present. It was my first Christmas shop with them and I'm really pleased.

YesThisIsMe · 23/12/2016 21:20

Ocado and Abel and Cole for me, they always come through reliably at Christmas (at an eye watering price for A&C, but their turkeys are fantastic). Ocado texted me cryptically to say "Sorry your order has the following substitution: 1x WR Frozen Peas for 1x WR Frozen Peas". This turned out to mean that they've sent me a 500g packet rather than the 1kg packet I ordered. And Tesco Metro provided the chestnuts which Ocado had run out of at the time of ordering.

Tweasels · 23/12/2016 21:20

This thread is strangely compelling. I do wonder if we all need to rein it in a bit though?

I went shopping today and had 'a moment' at the checkout where I looked around at the chaos and thought these fuckers have got us good and proper. Why do we buy in to it? (I thought this whilst buying a whole host of unnecessary shit - no judgement)

The cost of the food, the presents, the fucking jumpers. We are mugs I tell ya. In the New Year, I'm planning to overthrow capitalism....Sat here on my Apple IPad, eating quality street, drinking Prosecco...fuck

Bedsheets4knickers · 23/12/2016 21:24

I don't know but I did my main shop at Tesco at 6pm this evening and the shelves were bare.. it's quite a big store aswel , I've got to shop again tomorrow now . Something's gone horribly wrong

mumofblueeyes · 23/12/2016 21:50

Turkey update. Turkey update. After a long call to customer services ("I cannot believe you don't have any turkeys etc") they seem to then 'find' one which is now nestled in my fridge. It was £20 but free on the order. Am easily pleased. Rejected most of the other substitutes. White iced party cake with balloon decorations on went back - even I couldn't make that into a reindeer Yule Log. Kids alternative Xmas pud of Treacle Sponge Pud replaced with Xmas Pud so that went back as well. Slightly gutted about the macaroons being replaced with cheap frozen mini cheesecakes. Back they went. Xmas
Cake replaced with two Iced 'bars' but I will try and stick them together!! The driver said the last order he delivered had every single item substituted. He also told me tonight he had to deal with a man who ordered a whole salmon and was delivered two packs of prawns as the substitute. It is clearly all go with Asda tonight!

Rachie1986 · 23/12/2016 22:00

Glad you've got one Mum. Weird substitutions. Would still fight for a refund personally, but I guess it would be worse without the turkey!

I agree with a PP with what have we got to. Very materialistic (and I'm exactly the same so no judgment) and so much of the food will end up going to waste I'm sure :-(

mumofblueeyes · 23/12/2016 22:13

My Xmas shop was £70 for a family of 5 so I am happy with that (pre turkey refund). We ordered really sensibly and did give quite a lot of thought to not over ordering. I hate waste. Although am a bit worried the fridge looks rather empty!

I forgot cauliflower and my local ALDI was all out. Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow.

Joz157 · 23/12/2016 22:51

On a home town page I'm on nearly everyone has complained about Asda. I did shopping the old fashioned way and have to say it wasn't too back. The best was Morrison's seven o'clock tonight, fairly quiet and all shelves stocked up.

snozzlemaid · 23/12/2016 22:58

Got my Tesco delivery earlier. Had to go for a late slot of 9 to 10 pm, but they arrived much earlier at 7.30, which was actually much better for us.
No awful sustitutions, nothing missing and got a really lovely free gift box from tesco full of goodies!

DropZoneOne · 23/12/2016 23:06

I forgot to book my delivery slot when the email came through my Tesco, so had to do click and collect for today. Pretty good, I rejected 2 of the 3 substitutions but was impressed most of my food was available. I'd already got Christmas pudding, desserts and turkey from Aldi earlier in the week though, and still had time to pop to Sainsbury's to see if I could get the extras there (I could, pretty well stocked).

DropZoneOne · 23/12/2016 23:07

Oh, and I got a free little box of chocs too!

WellErrr · 23/12/2016 23:15

Oh I'm so bloody annoyed.

Tesco shop arrived, a few subs, nothing major. But loads of stuff is just missing! Things I vividly remember clicking on. Like cheeseboard selection and cheese biscuits. They've brought biscuits but no cheese. There's bloody loads missing but not even on the order list, when I KNOW I ordered it.

Anyone else had this? Dunno what I'm going to do, it's a three hour round trip to fucking Tesco!!

GloGirl · 23/12/2016 23:18

Did you get an email with a list when you ordered it that you can check?

WellErrr · 23/12/2016 23:23

I got a confirmation but I never check them as they're always right. Ive just checked now and the stuff isn't showing up on the order. It must be a problem with the app as I really genuinely remember ordering them, DH was watching anchor remembers too. It's not just one or two things either it's around ten.
But they won't believe me, will they? Can't believe I'll have to go to the sodding shops tomorrow.

StarsandSparkles · 23/12/2016 23:28

I didnt get 4 items i ordered and they had loads of them when i went to the shop. Was raging as i hadnt wanted to go out in all the rain today hence the home delivery Xmas Angry

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 24/12/2016 01:39

My delivery arrived on time and with only a couple of substitutions.

No red cabbage to be had but I can just about live with that.

Oh and I got a tin of shortbread, some finest mince pies, a mini Xmas pud and some chocolate coins free!

Well done Tesco.

Parker231 · 24/12/2016 07:55

This has been my best year for online shopping - all presents, cards, wrapping paper, food and drink all ordered and delivered to either home or my or DH's work. Would recommend it to everyone- saves so much time and hugely reduces the stress levels!
