Ah my favourite thread. I have just bought Saint Nicholas (Sinterklaas) and his little (terribly non-pc) helper Zwarte Piet (Black Pete - apparently black because of the chimney ashHmm) with the white horse that Saint Nicholas rides on here

belgo · 17/11/2010 12:41

and this is ChristKindl and Saint Nicholas as celebrated in Austria.

See, playmobil is culture Wink

SoMuchToBits · 17/11/2010 13:11

Ah, I can see the differences now stealth! Different beard styles, cloaks etc.

Belgo you keep making me Envy with all the things you can already buy that we won't get until next year! But I agree with you that Playmobil is culture - we even have a Playmobil minister for Arts and Culture in Norman's cabinet. She is always looking for new ideas.....

belgo · 17/11/2010 13:15

So- I am a bit disappointed that I can't buy the Austrian figures here in Belgium! I might have to go on holiday to AustriaGrin

stealthsquiggle · 17/11/2010 22:08

Oh Saint Nicholas would really put the cat amongst the pigeons in the whole "which-one-of-us-is-the-real-FC" debate, wouldn't he?

Mrs Claus is embarassed to admit that she can't actually remember which one she is married to and needs me to check playmodb to see if I can find a picture of the set they both came in.

In the meantime, she continues to produce trays of croissants and pizza from the aga for all of them, as well as assorted elves and angels. I am not asking!

Grin
SoMuchToBits · 18/11/2010 11:54

PMSL at Mrs Claus!Grin I don't suppose she has any clue as to the whereabouts of the missing FC?????

stealthsquiggle · 18/11/2010 16:34

Interesting thought, SoMuch - but Santa's House doesn't have a patio...

SoMuchToBits · 18/11/2010 16:36

Does it have a chimney? Maybe he got stuck up it.....

stealthsquiggle · 18/11/2010 16:42

Turns out she is married to the one in the middle in the photo - so maybe it is him I should be questioning about the whereabouts of Santa #4?

Bear - I just like that - sorry!

belgo · 18/11/2010 17:02

We really need a playmobil emoticon!

Slubberdegullion · 18/11/2010 17:25

OMG

belgo's St Nikolaus is THE BEST.

I must have one.

He would complement the Nativity in a most perfect way.

Slubberdegullion · 18/11/2010 17:26

Christkind is a bit freaky. Who is she btw?

belgo · 18/11/2010 17:45

Christkind brings the gifts to children in Austria on the 24th of December, so my Austrian friend tells me here

Slubberdegullion · 18/11/2010 17:52

That is quite interesting. I've never heard of it/her before.

Francagoestohollywood · 18/11/2010 17:56

I love Playmobils more than my children do.
Having said that, dd is currently playing with her camper van.
She'd like the farm or the boat or bits of the zoo this christmas.

SoMuchToBits · 18/11/2010 18:23

Oooh yes, a Playmobil emoticon would be fab!

Where did you find the PomBear emoticon stealth???? I can't see it....

stealthsquiggle · 18/11/2010 18:32

It's [ bear ] - I spotted it on another thread. I am assuming a children in need connection, probably wrongly.

I am sure there is some sort of Dr Who-type space-time implosion if you bring all these different cultures together - hence the Playmobil caution in selling them only in the right countries.

hockeypuck · 18/11/2010 20:05

Bear just had to check that out.

I received the fruits of my weekend playmobil ebaying in the post today.
One outdoor hill goatherd type thing, with an allotment, some cauliflowers and little animals etc, boxed. Also, 2 of the winter scenes which each had an ice-hockey goal and a player, along with sticks and pucks. Oh and a random selection of playmobil people including a dog-training team, a clown and a chimp in a nappy - obscure!

I want to play with them now, but I'm wrapping them up for DS.

Tikkabillajive · 18/11/2010 20:11

I'm so happy this thread is still going! My dd has been off school sick today and we had a lovely time getting all the Playmobil out - although I'm now surveying the living room floor which is covered in the stuff.

I'm amazed at StealthSquiggle's different FCs - I can only find 2 of ours to check and they are BOTH EXACTLY THE SAME! I feel robbed! The two of them are currently playing on the slide in the playground by the way - taking a break from fireman duties!

SoMuchToBits · 18/11/2010 23:36

Bear just testing.....

Actually we have several Playmobil bears in various colours (at least two different browns, yellow, and even a blue one!).

I have caved in btw, and ordered a nativity set and 3 wise kings today....... for myself Blush

SoMuchToBits · 18/11/2010 23:39

The bear worked! I think the connection is actually with a thread which was running a few days ago in which PomBear crisps were mentioned, rather than children in need.

The temptation to play with new Playmobil is great, especially when it doesn't come in a sealed box.....

SoMuchToBits · 22/11/2010 16:59

The nativity set and 3 wise kings arrived today! Can't wait to set it up.....

Am having visions of Norman the Foreman arriving proffering gifts of a kettle and mug for the Baby Jesus..... Grin

TabithaTwitchet · 22/11/2010 19:22

That's it, with all this talk you guys have persuaded me to buy the new nativity set and 3 wise men for DD. I have managed to persuade Dh that it is in fact a vital tool to help DD understand the true meaning of Christmas Wink.
I'm sure she will love it, she is always talking about Baby Jesus (sometimes getting him mixed up with her cousin, Baby Toby Grin )

SoMuchToBits · 22/11/2010 22:06

I am sorely tempted to create a scene in which Baby Jesus is in the cooking pot Blush
