They're fab, simpson - so much better than choclolate - my DC can be bribed into getting ready on time in December because they are so focused on seeing what they have got today.

Make sure you allow plenty of child-free assembly time, though - you have to put the bits into the boxes, IYSWIM

[disclaimer - most of the people on this thread are ever-so-slightly unhinged biased about Playmobil]

Tikkabillajive · 09/11/2010 23:16

Hi Simpson! The advent calendars are really great, we love them in our house!

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:16

PMSL at reserve firemen!Grin Had better not mention that to ds....

Yes, Portaloo would be good in stocking!

DM - the camper van is really good! Although ours is currently being used as a police vehicle Hmm

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:17

Ooooh! I looked at the advent calendars in the toy shop this year - and they are all now ready assembled!!!!! The bits are already in the boxes!

simpson · 09/11/2010 23:19

Dcs have not really had playmobil before Blush

But I think they will love them Grin

TBh the main reason is because DD cannot have chocolate Sad so thought this might be a good alternative iyswim Grin

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:19

And stealthsquiggle's disclaimer is true- most of us who post here are Playmobil addicts quite keen on Playmobil.

stealthsquiggle · 09/11/2010 23:19

ooh - we have a police van - maybe they could use that for camping - we could install Mrs Christmas' aga.... they would have to take the police dogs, though, cos the van is theirs, really.

There are loads of different advent calendars - a quick search on Amazon will give you a good idea.

simpson · 09/11/2010 23:19

PMSL at playmobil addicts Grin

stealthsquiggle · 09/11/2010 23:20

pre-assembled Shock?

That means I get to look forward to seeing what they get as well Grin

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:20

Playmobil wins over chocolate in our house, hands down!

Simpson, if you look at my profile pics, you might see why we like Playmobil.....Blush

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:23

Stealth, it means you don't have to spend ages on 30th Nov putting everything together. You can chill out and drink wine relax instead! Grin

simpson · 09/11/2010 23:24

PMSL Grin

I actually spat a bit of wine over my keyboard at your election pic!! Blush Grin

Do you think DD is too young though at 2.9 (although by Xmas will be 2.11) Or is it best to start them young??

Grin
stealthsquiggle · 09/11/2010 23:24

It is a good thing, definitely, SoMuch - I always felt slightly cheated by the fact that I knew that the 7th was a rubbish day when you got a selection of leaves for trees.

stealthsquiggle · 09/11/2010 23:26

Depends on your DD - DS got the recyclingbin lorry for his 2nd birthday - but some 2yos are not ready for the little fiddly bits.

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:28

Lol! I'd say start them young, Simpson, although if you are in any doubt there is always Playmobil 123 (designed for the younger children, but will get them into the habit early....)

I agree, Stealth - it's good when the parents get a surprise, so you don't have to pretend you don't know what will be in the next box....

Tikkabillajive · 09/11/2010 23:30

Oh no I am really sad about the pre-assembled advent calendars - I loved that bit on 30th Nov (although I always gave DH the job of assembling the boxes, while I located the correct bits to go in it). It had become a real pre-Christmas ritual! Sad

SoMuchToBits · 09/11/2010 23:32

Lat year it took me aaaagges to work out how to assemble the police one Blush

Hopefully this year will be a bit easier! I'm afraid my dh takes no part in this...

DreamTeamGirl · 10/11/2010 00:10

DS (5.8) wants the Playmobil Police Station this year. A lot of money as it is £50, but its all he is really asking for, so I think he will get it

Already assembled my pirate advent calender- was great fun but glad it wasnt on Nov 30th!!!

SoMuchToBits · 10/11/2010 08:27

Ds had the police station last year - he plays with it all the time.

mogs0 · 10/11/2010 09:45

I had bought ds the circus for Christmas in a sale a few months ago. I asked him a couple of discrete questions about whether he'd like a circus type PM set and he said no, he'd like dinos, dragons or pirates Hmm.

It has been well hidden since then. I put it on ebay last weekend and he spotted it in my room as I hadn't put it back in its proper hiding place after photographing for ebay.

He asked excitedly who it was for and I told him ebay. He looked like his world was about to fall apart so we negotiated he could still have it for Christmas but he'd have to forget that's what he was having so it'll still be a surprise on Christmas morning!

Also, I ordered a couple of medium sized sets from ELC with their various discounts last week so now have far too many sets for him and don't know which to hold back for another time or whether to ebay them because they are all taking up space!

We Ds had our his 1st advent calendar last year and it's fab! It's the carol singers in the town square one (probably has an official name!). I quite enjoyed assembling all the boxes and putting all the bits in and as soon as they were in their boxes I promptly forgot which bit was in which box so was still a surprise for me Grin!!

I keep nagging ds to try and pick a few things to get rid of as there are so many big things that we're running out of places to store it all - is that even allowed? Blush

simpson · 10/11/2010 10:32

I have just made my first ever playmobil purchase Grin

I have bought 2 advent calenders.

I got one with a horse stable in for DD

And one with dragons & knights for DS.

I think I they will love them Grin

DreamTeamGirl · 10/11/2010 10:45

Oooh thanks toomuch that's really reassuring

Tikitikitembo · 10/11/2010 10:48

BornToFolk · 10/11/2010 10:55

I'm going to get DS (3) a small pirates set for Xmas. All of his toys seem to be vehicle related so am trying to think of alternatives!

I've got my princess-obsessed niece the Fairy Unicorn palace from The Entertainer. It was a bargain, £19.99 reduced from £49.99

taffetacat · 10/11/2010 11:12

OK please, please someone explain to me why you/your DC like Playmobil. As far as I can see, its just plastic play figures and sets. Why the love affair?

DS(7) and DD(4) have none. We have lots of Lego.
