Impact of death on daughter constipated sick and accidents

Long story short my father in law died last weekend in an accident. DD and him were best of buddies doing everything together so she’s devastated we all are. Since Wednesday she’s been feeling sick not had a poo since Tuesday. I thought perhaps stress might slow her poo down she is eating less. Being sick and wetting at night which again putting down to stress. She has been sick tonight with the pain

My neighbours daughter is a pharmacist she told us to try dulcolax suppositories which I gave her around 6. She’s managed to poo about 10 hard rocks of poo some in the loo some not I’ve had her in the bath to try and help go she’s been on in and out of the bath on the floor and back on the loo. Im pretty sure its just her constipated but I guess you never know what grief can do to them.

Her hands and feet are ice cold too. Ive popped winter fluffy pjs and fluffy socks on now popped towels on the bathroom floor and giver her a hot water bop for her belly.

Your poor dd. I hope they can help her soon.

FlyingUnicornWings · 16/09/2025 09:22

Gosh I’m so upset to read this. Your poor little girl, and you too. What an awful situation for you all, dealing with your loss and your daughter now being so unwell.

How is she (and you) today? I hope on the mend. Sending you both a lot of love.

Topjoe19 · 16/09/2025 09:31

Oh bless her, poor girl, you have done amazing OP to get her help. She's in the right place now, hope she's better soon.

limetrees32 · 16/09/2025 09:32

So much sympathy for your poor DD ( and you and your DH of course).
I hope it's " only" constipation
Sounds similar to a friend's twisted bowel.

Me too.

My son had a bowel obstruction last year which twisted his bowel and it's exactly what it sounded like with him. Right down to the yellow vomit, though it was coffee brown at first.

He needed emergency surgery in the end.

Blimeyblighty · 16/09/2025 10:22

Oh OP you must be so tired & upset. I hope DD is improving.

I sadly don’t have good news to share. Sadly she a tear in her osphogus during the camera today. She’s been in so much pain since they have given her antibiotics, something to stop her being sick, a big bag of fluids. She had 2 CT scans and seen by the emergency surgery team. They are gone to have a meeting about what to do now. They have said it’s a clean tear cause she didn’t have any food to escape but there is air in her chest. The current hospital can’t manage her if she needs surgery but if they don’t operate we can stay here. She also had bottom swelling and bleeding they found some overlapping of her gut but are currently more worried about the tear they caused.

my head is honestly all over the place right now

Oh, I'm so sorry OP. How worrying.

My son had several bowel surgeries last year, the first was an emergency and he was rushed from the local hospital to a children's hospital who were able to do his surgery.

Big hugs to you, you and her will get through this xx

justasking111 · 16/09/2025 17:55

Poor wee mite. Be prepared to be moved. We live quite rurally, children are sometimes moved to a different hospital because we lack the facilities here.

LegoTherapy · 16/09/2025 17:56

@WinterRach sending lots of love. Hopefully they can seal that tear and release the air. Make sure you take of yourself too x

NotPerfectlyAdverage · 16/09/2025 18:03

Your poor dd. What a rough time you are all having right now

spiderlight · 16/09/2025 18:11

I'm so sorry to see your update - what a horrible time you're all having 😢

Hightideattheseaside · 16/09/2025 18:12

Your poor DD and poor you. What a scary time on top of everything else you have been going through. Sending lots of hugs your way x

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 16/09/2025 18:14

What rotten luck! Poor DD and poor you. Did they learn what they needed to know in the process?

WinterRach · 16/09/2025 18:37

They got down half way and then stopped when the tear occurred. They have stabled it closed. She is in so much pain with it. Every bit of moment to the loo and back is hurting a lot. We don’t have any results really they are focusing on the emergency.
they did say she will have intense treatment for 8 weeks and then another scope but that was before all of the emergency issues.
husband and I are running on empty. As is DD she’s not slept much after sedation

Sending hugs and hope your daughter improves quickly.

FcukBreastCancer · 16/09/2025 19:02

Oh poor her and poor you. I hope she gets some decent pain relief / sedation tonight.

Rainallnight · 16/09/2025 19:17

You poor thing, OP. You must be all over the place. This is hopefully the worst bit.

limetrees32 · 16/09/2025 19:20

If she's in a lot of pain and they are not able to control it on the ward your daughter should be referred to the hospital's pain management team.
No wonder your head is all over the place .I would want a detailed talk with the consultant and I would need someone with me.
Someone not so emotionally involved and with a bit more understanding of procedures than I have .
I don't suppose your ? neighbours pharmacist daughter knows anyone who could accompany you to a chat ?
Or could you record the discussion about her care to replay to yourself or a third party?
