Impact of death on daughter constipated sick and accidents

Long story short my father in law died last weekend in an accident. DD and him were best of buddies doing everything together so she’s devastated we all are. Since Wednesday she’s been feeling sick not had a poo since Tuesday. I thought perhaps stress might slow her poo down she is eating less. Being sick and wetting at night which again putting down to stress. She has been sick tonight with the pain

My neighbours daughter is a pharmacist she told us to try dulcolax suppositories which I gave her around 6. She’s managed to poo about 10 hard rocks of poo some in the loo some not I’ve had her in the bath to try and help go she’s been on in and out of the bath on the floor and back on the loo. Im pretty sure its just her constipated but I guess you never know what grief can do to them.

Her hands and feet are ice cold too. Ive popped winter fluffy pjs and fluffy socks on now popped towels on the bathroom floor and giver her a hot water bop for her belly.

Thank you so so much! Live as we know it is slowly returning to normal. We had a little fear last night with a fever but have put that down to coming off regular paracetamol.

we have also been to the GP today who’s going to investigate her bladder in a few weeks time once everything has settled down. They were shocked they didn’t call urology in hospital to see her. The GP has ordered an ultrasound of her kidneys and urine tract.

she’s a lot brighter for longer today and slowly building back up.

and finally we have raised a 10 page complaint about her care to the hospital to which they’ve acknowledged. It’ll take either 40 or 60 working days to investigate. We have made clear while the whole experience was poor we want close attention paid to the urine retention incident

Great to hear you’re all home and seen this moving in the right direction and big congratulations to being able to buy a complaint at the same time. As caring over your daughter.

I'm surprised that the investigation will take such a short amount of time. My son was only in the first hospital for a day and was transferred to the new hospital at 4am and the investigation took over a year.

I'm glad she's feeling better.

So glad to hear that you're now home and your daughter is improving. Thanks for keeping us updated during this difficult and stressful time.

@WinterRach

Do when the dust has settled and your daughter is well again add your support to Martha's rule in Ireland. You've a very important story well documented by yourselves to tell. They're considering it apparently well get it done you say.

Pancakeflipper · 26/09/2025 03:05

I'm so hoping your good news is still good and your brave daughter is improving each day.

And be kind to yourself -- one of our DC's had medical adventures. It's a horrid scary experience. If you can find someone to talk it through - it might be worth doing. Take good care. You've been amazing.
