Impact of death on daughter constipated sick and accidents

Long story short my father in law died last weekend in an accident. DD and him were best of buddies doing everything together so she’s devastated we all are. Since Wednesday she’s been feeling sick not had a poo since Tuesday. I thought perhaps stress might slow her poo down she is eating less. Being sick and wetting at night which again putting down to stress. She has been sick tonight with the pain

My neighbours daughter is a pharmacist she told us to try dulcolax suppositories which I gave her around 6. She’s managed to poo about 10 hard rocks of poo some in the loo some not I’ve had her in the bath to try and help go she’s been on in and out of the bath on the floor and back on the loo. Im pretty sure its just her constipated but I guess you never know what grief can do to them.

Her hands and feet are ice cold too. Ive popped winter fluffy pjs and fluffy socks on now popped towels on the bathroom floor and giver her a hot water bop for her belly.

I'd be calling 111 for advice. How old is she?

WinterRach · 14/09/2025 21:48

We dont have 111 but I have called SouthDoc. She is 12

This sounds like A&E job, she made need an iv of fluids

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 21:54

Why did you give her 6 suppositories? The dose is one.

It sounds like she needs immediate medical assessment given cold hands and feet at 12 years old.

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 21:55

Dosage for bisacodyl suppositories
The usual dose is:

  • adults and children aged 10 years and over – one 10mg suppository, used once a day in the morning
  • children aged 4 to 9 years (on doctor's advice only) – one 5mg suppository, used once a day in the morning

Please seek immediate attention for her.

WanderleyWagon · 14/09/2025 21:56

Did you mean 6 suppositories or or that you gave her the dose around 6 o'clock?

@Womblingmerrily Does OP not mean she gave them at around 6 (pm I’m assuming) rather than she gave her 6?

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 21:58

I really hope so.

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 22:00

Even if it's the right dose given at 6pm , the vomiting, the pain, the cold hands and feet - I think she needs to be seen.

WinterRach · 14/09/2025 22:00

Oh my god no I only gave her 1 and 6pm. The box says only 1 a day I cant image what would be happening if she had more. Im so sorry

Fairly obvious to me that 'around 6' was the time they were given Hmm

Op I suspect the wetting at night is related to the constipation, stool pressing on the bladder. If the vomit is just normal I'd say at this point you're probably ok to wait for GP tomorrow but if it looks/smells like poo then straight off to A&E.

Really sorry for your loss Flowers

Riley1989 · 14/09/2025 22:01

I think OP meant she gave her the suppository around 6pm. Sorry for your loss 💐If it was me I would be taking her to see a medical professional asap as she may be impacted and need assistance quickly to stop any damage x

Womblingmerrily · 14/09/2025 22:01

@WinterRach My apologies, I clearly misread it - really glad it wasn't 6.

Hope you've got in touch with someone from Southdoc as she really doesn't sound very well.

savourthecrumpet · 14/09/2025 22:08

Vomiting and cold hands/feet are potentially signs of meningitis or sepsis. Get some medical advice tonight.

Lovemybunnies · 14/09/2025 22:11

I’m so sorry for your loss. Your poor daughter. Please let us know how she is when you can.

WinterRach · 14/09/2025 22:16

SouthDoc have called us back they are going to see her at 5 past 12 tonight. How stupid of me I didnt even think the constipation and wetting could be linked. We have finally managed to encouage her out of the bathroom and in an electric blanket to warm her up. without too much details away she is saying down there and her bum is burning. sorry im rambing on im sorry im not one normally to post

It's good she will be seen tonight hope she feels better soon and sorry for your loss.

HonestOpalHelper · 14/09/2025 22:31

It's very common for grief and shock to manifest in digestive issues - I fully agree with getting her checked, but the issues will likely be linked to the shock and will subside as that process passes.

However infections can follow on quickly from shock and grief too, so there may be something going on there, and you are getting it checked out!

Hope she is on the mend soon.

WinterRach · 14/09/2025 22:38

Thank you all so much! They called back and have moved our appointment forward. Dad is just warming up the car to try and keep her warm before getting in. Now the pain has eased still got the burning pains we just cant get her warm. I checked her tempature and its 35.4 in her left ear and 35.6 in her right ear

So glad she's being seen quickly, I wish her well.

katiecustard2 · 14/09/2025 22:41

Poor girl she does sound unwell on top of the shock and grief she must be going through. You’re doing the right thing by getting her checked out. Hope all goes well for you.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 14/09/2025 22:49

Oh the poor child.
I hope she's okay. It's good that they're seeing her.
