Hi, INWright

when i inquired on UC i was informed that if you tell UC you will receive more money for the child,
You’ll also get an extra amount if any of your children are disabled. You’re eligible for this extra amount no matter how many children you have.
You’ll get:

  • £146.31 if your child is disabled
  • £456.89 if your child is severely disabled
How much you’ll get Extra monthly amount For your first child £315.00 (born before 6 April 2017) £269.58 (born on or after 6 April 2017) For your second child and any other eligible children £269.58 per child

Hope this helps

The children element of up to 2 children is a standard allowance already given that isnt because of having a disabled child.
The only elements you can receive once receiving dla is a disability element for either mrc or hrc, and a carers element which is different from carers allowance.
if you work and are not entitled to carers allowance but receive uc you are entitled to the carers element x

So..
I called earlier, it’s with the DM at the moment
so I should hear something soon..
it was with him/her on Friday so I’m hoping I’ll find out at the end of the week?
im unsure if I would get it as I litterally sent it off 2 weeks after diagnoses.. but I know the wait is long -.-

Jodie1204 · 29/08/2023 14:28

Update! Just got off the phone and have been awarded! I am shaking and crying and I can't quite believe it!
I have been awarded HRC & LRM until 2027 xx
Utterly gobsmacked!

1990shopefulftm · 29/08/2023 14:34

If we re awarded, currently we get about £200 UC but as DH works and I don't so I know I could be eligible for disabled child and carers element but also carers allowance.

If I get carers allowance backdated how would UC take the money we ll owe them back, is it that they take it gradually or are we going to potentially owe UC a few hundred pounds in one go?

Chels2020 · 29/08/2023 14:38

That’s correct I get direct careers allowance and I also single parent and I have this deduction from universal credit you can only get careers allowance direct or carer element on uc x

Chels2020 · 29/08/2023 14:39

We’ll done what’s your scan date x

Well done!! What is your child's diagnosis? And when was your scan date. Bet your so relieved xx

Wigswaddis · 29/08/2023 14:44

Universal credit will take it in instalments, they can’t take more than 25% of your standard allowance but you can call debt management and request that they take less.

Jodie1204 · 29/08/2023 14:44

Scan date was 3/5 so 17 weeks tomorrow xx
His diagnosis is Autism and Sensory Processing disorder.

I am so relieved but I can't quite believe it. Thank you everyone and good luck to you all 🤞

I think our entitlement is probably going to end up a lot less than the full standard allowance amount as a couple anyway, does make it just 25% off what we would get monthly in that case?

Wigswaddis · 29/08/2023 14:55

Yes 25% of what you receive, or you can call then and discuss payment plans.

TaraRobinson1989 · 29/08/2023 15:08

Hi was this realating to my post about my son and his renal condition? X

TaraRobinson1989 · 29/08/2023 15:13

That's great, thank you for your help

Jodie1204 · 29/08/2023 15:47

Can anyone advise what ti do next.. I am on old style tax credits and I work 16 hours. I am been told today HRC & LRM so when I call tax credits so I tell them my scan date is the day I was awarded from and then do I need to specifically ask for a back date/carers element or allowance I have no clue what one is what. I know one of them takes £ for £ so I won't even apply for that one
Thank you x

Snoweymum · 29/08/2023 15:51

I gave in and called them! Awarded mrc no mobility as my boy is only 4! Scan date the 2nd of May!

WorseDecision · 29/08/2023 16:01

I called them waited 1 hour twenty minutes and they hung up on me 😭
Scan date 5/5 fed up of this now.

Leigh3 · 29/08/2023 16:23

Yes just call tax credits and inform them of the dla award and when it was awarded from.. carers is the the one that takes money. Everything will automatically be backdated 🙂

Mumofthreexx97 · 29/08/2023 16:27

That’s amazing news! So happy for you! My son has autism and our scan date was 3/5 so fingers crossed we hear back soon 🥹 I’m so nervous! X

Leigh3 · 29/08/2023 16:29

Omg! I’ve been awarded wasn’t actually expecting it! Scan date 2/05
