Quite irritated tonight, my son and daughter both have hearing loss, my son is 2 and he has been awarded MRC he was awarded yesterday, my daughter 12 has been declined, I don't get it they both have exactly same hearing loss, same care needs etc. I'm sat stressing incase I filled her form in wrong and it's my fault, has this happened to anyone else? Also how do I appeal and what do u say?

Shellbel10 · 18/08/2023 19:27

Unfortunately from what I read on here. It all depends on the decision maker and what they see from the claim. We got declined last year and I’ve seen people get awarded with less evidence than what I sent. All of it is so frustrating. Just fight for what you believe

thankf82 · 18/08/2023 19:43

Changed name to write this as it could be outing.

Dd was due her renewal in the next few days, I was panicking as I send of her forms 17 weeks ago (scanned 18th April) and still hadn't heard anything.

I finally phoned today and they said they sent me out a letter middle of May which I had never received! She's been reallocated her current award of middle rate care and lower rate mobility for the next four years until she then has to apply for pip!

What a relief! The first time she was awarded DLA it was for 5 years but the last renewal (that's just running out) was only two years. I'm so relieved she's got the four years this time and I can put it to the back of my mind for a bit.

I'm a bit miffed I've been worrying for so long when it's been sorted without my knowledge for three months but at least it's good news.

Chels2020 · 19/08/2023 07:49

It’s a nightmare isn’t it my sons claim dosnt need renewal untill 2025 so my payments will continue but when I spoke to them back in June they said they review the whole claim again it’s such a long wait it’s only the mobility side that has changed for us he’s just gone 3 and can’t walk at all he’s no left leg and uses a wheelchair.

Chels2020 · 19/08/2023 07:52

Morning what a awful situation to find yourself in I read on a previous post they don’t like giving to siblings which I can’t get my head around as if the child needs extra care they need extra care… I will keep you posted as on if my boys had always had mrc and we’ve just done a coc for mobility my other son is awaiting autism screening (long hall wait) and I applied for him back in may still waiting to hear from time frames I’ve for around another 5/6 wait yet to see if he is awarded I will let you know if he is but definitely worth you looking at challenging fight for what you believe is right :) x

tiredmum1989 · 19/08/2023 21:31

Hi everyone. I’ve been following since part 11 on a different thread, as my daughter was awarded MRC in July after a 17 week wait. I’m now trying to complete the form again for my son but we’re in between professionals as we’ve just been referred from one service to another and currently on waiting list. He’s not started school yet and I’m wondering if I can submit the form without the supporting statement or whether I should try to contact his most recent speech and language therapist. Tbh I hate asking anyone to do it and found it really awkward with my daughter but obviously I want to make my application as good as possible. I have a report from paediatricians, speech and language x 2 and he’s also under ophthalmology and audiology, but most of these people only see him for a few minutes every few months or have met him once or twice. Has anyone ever been awarded without a professionals statement?! I’m driving myself mad overthinking it I think 😂🙈

GG89 · 19/08/2023 21:58

Evening all. Not sure if anyone remembers me from the previous thread but i put our claim in and was scanned on 24th march and it was declined with the reasons being no ehcp in place within school. Although now i believe it to have been declined on purpose due to me putting a complaint in against how long the dm had had my claim for. I did a mr which was scanned 1st august. Today a lovely gentleman called me to go over a couple things and he told me i was 100% right to have put in a mr and that he had overturned my sons original decision and has awarded hrc and lrm. The relief is unreal however i was certainly prepared to fight. So for anyone who is in the same boat do not give up
xxx

Mumofsoontobe5 · 19/08/2023 22:30

@GG89 great news most MR are being overturned by the looks of things well done for sticking to ur guns what a poor excuse due to no EHCP being in place my children dont have these they have IEP’s and risk assessments for themselves and one with a risk assessment for others in place too I’ve sent no paperwork as it’s a ballache printing all these off in the timeframe of mentally processing the awful stuff u have to write about ur child’s behaviour and send it off in time they’ve been told to contact relevant people for this information or it will be sent with the MR if needed I complained on every ounce of the paperwork being mentally draining and having a negative impact on caregivers mental health having to be so blunt about behaviours it’d be better if they could ask a simple ABC on the child and what helps behaviours or their needs in a statement not 70 odd silly questions some irrelevant to personal circumstances as it’s really our hard work being put in that helps our children the money obviously covers their extra needs equipment damages caused from meltdowns etc and helps pay for the fact most of us are unable to work and provide that security as it’s a 24/7 job on its own and tbh it still doesn’t cover half of what they need

Mumoftwins2007 · 19/08/2023 22:33

We have the same scan date. I called last week and they said up to 16 weeks wait

tiredmum1989 · 19/08/2023 22:47

Congratulations @GG89 you must be so relieved after all that! Glad your son has been awarded what he deserves.

Pengu1nGal · 20/08/2023 07:54

Those of you you have HRC what was your overnight care needs if you dont mind me asking?

My LO had HRC awarded from 3m but has improved so I think we may get MRC but she still uses a sleep apnea matt which was provided to us by the hospital - not sure if that counts as care through the night as its a device monitoring overnight not a person?

Our end date is 4/09 and not heard a thing. I sent my forms off as soon as they came to me mid April. Going to call tomorrow to hopefully get an update.

We have UC so get the severe child disability payment aswell. I'm terrified it will get rejected completely and we have to go through MR but will be out of about 800pm which we use with me not going to work to care for her/running a car to get to her appointments (specialists hospitals that we can't just bus to as they our out of our county) and paying for so many bits which add up.

This is so stressful.

unicornwonders · 20/08/2023 08:12

@Pengu1nGal my dds renewal was 05/09, i sent papers in may and they made a decision on the 17th so you should have a decision :)
