Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

41+5 now and still no baby. Had sweep number 6 this morning. I have 2 midwives, to cover each other in case of days off etc, this one is much more thorough with her sweeps so I am very hopeful there might be some change today. Apparently it is all set, cervix is already 3-4 cm, but not effaced, so just need some contractions and baby will be out pronto they reckon.
Have been thinking that really i would rather go to hospital than have home birth, and told her that today, Getting that off my chest might make me relax and start I hope. Quite keen on HB here, feel a bit that am not following the party line. But there is a risk baby will come too soon to safely get to hospital, so that is why they like HB. I am worried that I won't rest properly if at home afterwards. we will see. Hope other babies come too. Am now going to torture myself by seeing how manay babies on the April thread have arrived.

mum2phoebs · 22/04/2010 12:33

Well I had regualr pains all night long, positive I was in labour, stopped my husband going to work this morning and now nothing! No pains...nothing! Already told midwife I want another sweep as was convinced it had worked!! She said I'll have to wait till Sun or Mon.

FED UP!!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 22/04/2010 15:21

40+5 today - getting bigger as are stretchmarks (I had none until nearly 40 weeks [cries])

Midwife offered me sweep and induction booking, both of which I declined. If I'm back again next week then be signing up for the lot!

mum2phoebs well at least something was happening - fingers crossed for you to pop soon!

katgod I always find that making a decision makes me more relaxed about stuff - and the more relaxed you are the more likely you are to go into labour? Good luck

lwnewmum · 22/04/2010 16:49

Sweep #2 earlier today, nothing going on yet.
Will be induced sometime middle of next week, tba if nothings happened by Monday. Actually feeling less fed up now there is a bit of a timetable!

catmat2002 · 22/04/2010 20:23

ItsAllGoingToBeFine I'm 40+5 today aswell and majorly fed up!!
I had a sweep today, cervix is soft but posterior so she doesnt know how effective it will be....?!? Tbh I find my midwife quite irritating...never come away feeling good about the progress I'm making.

Anyway, for the last hour or so I've been feeling tightenings in my tummy and the little un is moving around loads. Don't know if this is a result of the sweep and maybe things are happening. Not going to get too excited tho cos every time I think something is changing, I wake up in the morning and its all stopped!

Get a date tomorrow for induction (and 2nd sweep) if it doesnt work. my 12th (29th) day is the day before my bday (30th) so I'm really anxious to have her before then...

Hello overdue ladies. I am 40+3 with my 3rd and so fed up. My last 2 were early and judging by the size of my bump everyone said 'oh you'll never go full term'. Was convinced I'd deliver about 38 wks. Have had a membrane sweep, walked, 3 curries, 2 pineapples and lost the mucus plug yesterday. When will this baby arrive?! Argghhhhh

mum2phoebs · 22/04/2010 21:52

Right then - hoping I have found my answer to being overdue. I'm going to get hold of some Clary Sage essential oil and sniff that till I go into labour!

Boots sell it, wish they were still open now I'd go and get some!

Trying to avoid driving anywhere on my own now I'm overdue but may make an exception tomorrow morning to go and buy some of this!

JulieP1971 · 23/04/2010 07:02

Clary sage it is! Will try it too but like you Mumtophoebs am a bit nervous of driving too far on my own. Going to have a walk once children in school, then will call my wishy washy midwife today and try and get another sweep. 4 days over today, feels like an eternity.

lwnewmum · 23/04/2010 09:48

Have never heard of clary sage. Let us know how it goes!

Was - yet again - convinced labour was starting last night, but this morning -yet again- nothing! Aaargh!!!

mum2phoebs · 23/04/2010 16:15

Well my husband has got me the Clary Sage, I have drops of it on a hanky, planning to add it to a bath later, then have a massage with it later!!

My contractions will come on so strong they'll be unbearable you watch!!

Then again it may have no affect whatsoever! My DH is saying how it stinks and is giving him a headache!!

Contacted my midwife earlier to see when I can have a second sweep, they won't give me another! Becuase my cervix was favourable and set off contractions and a show they won't do another!

So just gotta keep my fingers crossed that things get moving as I really don't want to be induced next Wednesday as then I can't have the waterbirth I had planned!

katgod · 23/04/2010 18:49

By the magic of technology I am in hospital posting on Mumsnet. After 6 sweeps (cervix soft and favourable but still posterior) I rocked up this morning and have been induced using Propess. Its a tiny strip about half the size of a SIM card, on a string like a tampon. And after 8 hours NOTHING at all has happened!! DD took 2 hours from first twinge to arrival, cannot believe this one is taking so long. And the woman opposite me on ante natal ward has really been winding me up-i know she is in early labour but does her husband have to burp every 10 minutes? At least the hpspital shop is open 24 hours for snax. DH went home as sooo boring here, will be back later- we only live 5 minutes away so can get here pronto if needed. Sorry am rambling now but am soooo bored. Am now 41+6.

lwnewmum · 23/04/2010 20:08

katgod you poor thing. Sounds horrible. Have you considered responding with your own burp / fart every time annoying husband opposite burps?! at least it may amuse you for a couple of minutes!

Sending lots of hugs your way

mamacherry · 23/04/2010 21:35

hello fellow overbakers. I am either 40 +1 or 40+4 depending on which date you believe - scan or period. Midwives can't agree as usual - what is it about them? Either way am determined to avoid induction if possible but also slightly nervous about making too many efforts to start labour just yet as am feeling frankly quite scred of the inevitable pain ahead - even though planning homebirth, no pain relief etc etc. Feel like a slight wuss for not mainlining pineapple and clary sage like other brave comrades...its my second DC by the way and first labour was done naturally, and even though I probably handled it quite well I can;t shake being a bit scared of this one..

JulieP1971 · 24/04/2010 07:18

Oh another day overdue. I've woken up with swollen legs already and it's going to be hot today. No sign of baby coming. Have appt to see midwife for another sweep today. I just want my baby!!!

catmat2002 · 24/04/2010 09:57

hows the clary sage going mum2phoebs I bought some from Boots yesterday and after eating a whole pineapple throughout the day I had a soak in the bath with the oil, DH then massaged it into my back and stomach and then we tried good old sex (sorry if tmi) ... and I'm still clinging on to the bump.

I was at a friends last night for 1st BBQ od the summer!! his mum is a midwife and was there, and she says there is really no way of starting things off and she'll come out when she's cooked....even hearing this from an midwife whos also a friend I still find myself trying all these "magic" ways of starting labour. I think I'd kick myself for still being pregnant in a weeks time knowing I hadn't tried these things.

Wel...sweep #2 on Monday, Hospital appointment Tuesday to discuss induction. Definitely taking my bag in with me as I hope they dont send me home!

supersuz · 24/04/2010 16:21

Hello. Can i just ask if your babies are all engaged? Mine isn't and I'm wondering if this is delaying things. Had membrane sweep and it gave me a few twinges but nothing to write home about. I'm 40 +4 with my first. Thinking I should have taken the c section option when I had the chance.

catmat2002 · 24/04/2010 21:42

Mines not...heads about 3/5 engaged but the midwife is not concerned. She said a lot of them don't engage fully until you go into labour....

My membrane sweep created a few twinges later that evening but didn't develop. Have another one Monday so we'll see. However, my sister had 2 membrane sweeps with her 2 boys and neither of them worked.

supersuz · 24/04/2010 22:51

That's the same as mine. 3/5 engaged. Having another sweep on Monday too.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 25/04/2010 08:50

grrr. 41+1 today and still no signs of anything at all. Worst of all my mother is arriving today to see the new baby (pre-booked cheap train tickets) so I have to stress about entertaining her too.

re head being engaged - my baby's head has never been more than 1/5 engaged -1/5!

Am becoming increasingly convinced that this baby is in it for the long haul, and becoming increasingly paranoid that baby is not going to be ok

Abubu · 25/04/2010 09:22

Hi,

I am officially overdue today - 40+1.
I have absolutely no signs at all. I was induced last time (38 weeks with twins) and really hoping that I won't be this time.

I was convinced baby was going to be early. I am huge, everyone said "there's no way you'll go full term" have been having strong braxton hicks every day for about 3 months and had the nesting instinct about a month ago (though not now).

I'm still not completely mentally ready for it yet though which I think may stop it happening.

themacsmum · 25/04/2010 14:50

Hi
In the nicest possible way I was hoping not to have to sign into this thread. I'm 40+2 with DC2. Was induced at 41+4 with DC1 and have been desperate not to repeat that if possible.Have had strong BH and cramps for weeks but don't seem to be getting anywhere. My uninspiring MW says i can have a sweep on Wednesday (40+5) but I'm not holding out much hope. With DC1 the MW said I was 3-4cm and would probably have baby in 3-4 days only to end up going over another week and need the full works at induction.

Sorry for grumbling post - just feeling sorry for myself

lwnewmum · 25/04/2010 16:21

41+2 and still nothing.

Have given up on every old wives' tale cos none of them have worked (and I've tried them all!)

Sweep #3 tomorrow, but am also convinced this baby is in it for the long haul and I'm resigning myself for induction.

Consoling myself with chocolate digestives instead...

mum2phoebs · 25/04/2010 21:11
