Come and take my mind off it!

Suggest something indulgent we can do to distract ourselves.

Hi there! Im joining you as I am 39+6....
Is a sweep painful? I have one booked for 40+9
And is there a difference between a stretch&sweep and just a sweep? or is it the same thing?
Good luck everybody!!

Arcadie · 30/03/2010 09:50

Hi Tostaky.

A good effective sweep will be uncomfortable at the time and might well make you feel a bit crampy and "I think my period's coming" afterwards.

A REALLY good sweep will keep those cramps coming until labour kicks off!

Stripping membranes/ Sweep / Stretch and Sweep are all names for the same thing.

Got my second one tomorrow and I'm hoping the cervix is a bit more favourable for a "proper good rummage" as my MW so delightfully describes it!

globalmummy · 30/03/2010 20:26

Thanks Arcadie, good vibes to you too. Feeling a bit crampy tonight so maybe things are under way after all. Not too worried about S&S- last one really wasn't painful although a bit strange. Will ask mw to be more vigorous next time!

joanne34 · 30/03/2010 20:47

Where's tiggz ? ? ?

Arcadie · 31/03/2010 13:30

No baby for me. 40+5. S&S so far no produced anything labourlike. Got hosp appt for next week. Think MW now fed up of sight of me.....

Arcadie · 31/03/2010 13:31

Anything good on tv tonight?

globalmummy · 31/03/2010 16:41

Was getting excited about cramps and show but mw says I'm no more dilated than last time (1cm). Grrr. So it's back to the waiting game...Mum here for 10 days from today- she had late babies too so knew not to come sooner!

Keep your spirits up all of you awaiting Easter bunnies.

tostaky · 02/04/2010 07:34

Hi there!
40+1 here, who else is here?
Arcadie? Globalmummy?

I was feeling a bit down last night because I am overdue but I am decidly more upbeat this morning...
I will ask DP to take me for long walks this weekend, let's hope that will trigger something!

gailforce1 · 02/04/2010 09:24

Tostaky - have a look at thread titled "Lulumaman seeing as you already have another thread......." currently on page 2. Poster had her baby soon after!
to get things goping I think that there is another thing you could be asking your DP to do this weekend!!!!!
Best of luck and keep us posted!!

Neeko · 02/04/2010 16:34

Hi all. Just to update that I had a baby girl Hannah on Monday night at 40+6 so there is hope out there! Good luck to you all - you'll be holding those bundles of joy soon.

tiggz · 02/04/2010 22:21

hi everyone, justto let you know, i was induced last thursday and i had my babygirl on thursday 25th at 11.45pm 7lb 15oz. She has been worth the wait and all the worrying! Good luck to you all, i know waiting is such a pain, i was 13days overdue by the time they induced me, but trust me, you baby will be here VERY soon! xx

joanne34 · 03/04/2010 11:58

Weldone tiggz, been worried where you got too !
Congratulations, it is well worth it isn't it!?!
All the best !

ToffeeAddict · 03/04/2010 15:29

I'm 40+4 today, had my sweep at 40 wks, had show next day then nothing much has happened for last couple of days.

Have been having LOTS of BH though, it's so frustrating wen they tail off and don't turn into somethingt a bit stronger!

Induction booked for a week today, so just one more week to go maximum, but really hope it happens before then.

Good luck to everyone still on the thread, and congratulations to those who have had babies since the thread started!

globalmummy · 06/04/2010 22:57

Hi all. GlobalBabyBoy born in the wee hours of Saturday 3rd April, just hours before scheduled induction....
24 hours to get into established labour, a few more hours of regular contractions, then fast but beautiful (unplanned) water birth. Brilliant midwife. Worst of it was definitely the waiting. Good luck to the rest of you.

Nocoffeenoworkee · 07/04/2010 08:43

Sigh signing in at 40+1... after 3.5 weeks of false starts (lots of painful contractions) I'm still here waiting for DC1 to make an appearance. Forgive my impatience at only 40+1 but as I'm sure you can imagine it's been a long few weeks.

Had a S&S yesterday and am 1cm dilated (YES!!! Small victory!) with an apparently 'massive and bulging' sack of waters that I 'will know about' once they go. I feel like a walking time bomb... Sorry if TMI but had more of a show yesterday (dark brown thick jelly-like mucus) and a bit more this morning.

Come on baby! Congrats to you lucky mums who have given birth in the last few days, it must be wonderful to be the other side! Enjoy.

BedtimeBear · 07/04/2010 09:13

Hi Nocoffee, I'm 40+1 now too, and thought that by joining this thread I may encourage sods law! 3.5 weeks? Poor you I've had almost 2 weeks of bh and weird pains... DS1 was induced at 11 days over, and still had to be dragged out so maybe I'm just not meant to go on time! The worst bit for me is the constant 'anything happened yet?!' from everyone when they have been told not to ask me!! Grrrr. I'm off round Sainsburys with DS in a bit to buy cake ingredients so at least I've got something yummy to take my mind off it! Sympathies to everyone overdue.

Nocoffeenoworkee · 08/04/2010 11:53

Bedtimebear I am far too familiar with the "anything happened yet?"s and am considering describing my bloody show and mucus plug, with perhaps a spot of stretch and sweep detail. That should keep more questions at bay! What cake are you baking? Am also in baking mode - perhaps something a little complicated that requires me to be focusing properly for quite a few hours ;-)

BedtimeBear · 08/04/2010 15:45

I love that idea! Unfortunately nothing too gross has happened yet for me but I could always make something up...! Went to see the midwife today, she offered to do a sweep but I chickened out and have instead booked one for monday. I don't know why I'm scared really, it just sounds a bit... Well, brutal. She also booked me in for induction on 16th so a sweep has to be worth a go before then (echoes of DS's birth 4 years ago-10 days over, induced, forceps, blah blah). Oh, DS and I made butterfly cakes with loads of buttercream and spinkles, yum!! Hope everyone had been relaxing and enjoying the lovely weather today? x

tostaky · 08/04/2010 16:33

Had my baby at 40+7 after two days of having contractions!!!
Good luck ladies!!

BedtimeBear · 08/04/2010 17:36

Congratulations Tostaky!

jakesmum30 · 08/04/2010 21:58

Hello, joining you as I'm 40+1 today - no signs yet except a few period pains. DS was 16 days late (induction) but would LOVE to go into labour at home and not spend the whole experience in hospital. Any one had luck with reflexology? Good Luck to everyone!

I'd like to join too, am now 40+2 despite this being my second baby. Everyone else I know who has had a second baby has been early and my first baby was early, so not quite sure what's going on . Have now got to the point where I think I'm not actually pregnant at all and it's all a big joke!

Have absolutely no signs of anything happening either, not a single twinge or ache. helenwombat I'm frightenend about being induced and the likelihood of intervention as a result too. Do not want to be induced but can't see a way out of it if this baby doesn't appear soon. Wondering whether I should just demand a c-section if I go any later because a lot of indutions which fail to progress end up in a c-section anyway. Don't want to labour for 3 days (and this is what the leaflet my midwife gave me says could happen ) and then end up in theatre.

nocoffee, are you still there or have you popped?! lucysullivan I was surprised to go overdue as this is my second too! I stupidly believed everyone when they said 'your body will know what to do this time'.... Doesn't feel like it right now
