After about an hour of painless contractions every 3 mins, waters just went. Had forgotten quite how bloody much of it there is. I sit back and await labour...

Duchesse, congratulations!!!!!!!

Not the way you wanted to do it but if she's here and safe then you got the result you wanted. So glad you are both ok. Well done and congrats.

congratulations Duchess, hope you are feeling ok, and well done to your DS - amazing results.

When is LO out if NICU?

All the best x x x x

duchesse · 28/08/2009 07:43

Baby still in nicu, but I was able to hold her off the cpap yesterday. Unfortunately she struggled a bit with her breathing after about ten minutes and had to go back so o didn't get the chance to feed at all. She's having expressed colostrum every three hours and has started to get hungry which is a good sign! The midwives are impressed by the prodigious quantities I seem to be able to produce- just did 6ml which actually hardly looks like anything in the pot...

Well done young mr duchesse!
Sorry the newest miss duchesse is still on cpap but it is great that she is already wanting food.. I'm sure she will be up and after all that mummy milk very soon. Hope you are recovering from your long ordeal too.

OnlyWantsOneDoesntLikeDM · 28/08/2009 08:53

all the best to you and your DD - any names yet?

BonzoDoodah · 28/08/2009 11:39

Updates
baby (whose name may or may not be Matilda) is off cpap as she got very cross when they tried to put it back on her after a spell off it first thing this morning. She seems to be fine. Saw her consultant this morning who said that on balance of probability she may have had a pneumonia-like lung infection rather than anything more serious like meningitis- poor little mite had to have a lumbar puncture yesterday but it's looking ok so far. Chances are that she'll be in the neonatal unit untill Monday at the earliest although she may move out of intensive care soon.

I tried to feed her earlier but she just nuzzled the nipple a bit then went back to sleep. Shall try again later.

Also saw the obs registrar who did the c section this morning. She very sweetly came to see how I was- on the grounds that going from planned hb to emergency section is quite a psychological leap. I told her I was fine with it- it was after all the only way she was going to get out unless she'd suddenly got very skilled at unravelling string. Also I had the best night's sleep I've had in a long time, and feel really well.

aw duchesse, glad you feel ok about it, and good for dd. fingers crossed that you both get out soon. Matilda is a lovely name and suits her perfectly!!

BecauseImWorthIt · 28/08/2009 14:17

Congratulations!

Hangingbellyofbabylon · 28/08/2009 14:46

you're amazing and I'm glad you're being well looked after. I'm sure your lovely lady will up and wanting to feed soon. You've had a traumatic time but you have the rest of your lives together now Best of luck.

flamingtoaster · 28/08/2009 14:49

Great to hear Matilda is off cpap and you are OK about the birth and feeling well. I hope you are both home soon.

eightisseventoomany · 28/08/2009 15:01

jeanjeannie · 28/08/2009 16:51

Oh Duchesse excellent news that you've been able to let (Matilda? Superb choice but don't let me influence you ) have a feeding nuzzle. And off cpap too - excellent news. I shall pass on the details to the old hags thread! Keep up the good work and LOL@ her being able to unravel string Big hugs x

duchesse · 28/08/2009 19:46

Mumsy- she is 41+3 by ultrasound dating, 42 +3 by my dates. She doesn't look at all postmature- chunky little shoulders , neck and thighs and no sign of dry skin.
Unfortunately I don't think I can upload photos to my profile from my phone although I will give it a try.

fab news all round duchesse! Good that you have retained your sense of humour, great that you feel so well, even better that you are so pragmatic about the sublime to ridiculous change of birth plan (though very sweet of the surgeon to come to talk to you about it)and fantastic that maybe Matilda (I love that name too) is off cpap and interested enough to nuzzle.Sounds like you will both be back home in no time.

mrsboogie · 28/08/2009 20:01

congrats duchesse glad everything went ok in the end and can't wait to see pics!

Tee2072 · 28/08/2009 20:55
