Hi all. I am 38 plus 5 days pregnant and just wondering if there is any MN out there getting a little impatient with all this waiting. I am getting a lot of sharp pains and some back ache but nothing that really indicates that I will be going into labour any day soon. Anyone else feeling the same??? My EDD is 26th August - the day after my birthday so am looking forward to a really speacial birthday present Smile

and here's my birth story

i phoned labour ward to tell them what was happening at about 5.30ish (contractions were about 7mins apart at this point) and then a lovely mw called Jackie phoned me back. and we decided to wait for a couple of hours before getting her round

i then phoned my favourite mw, she was off duty but told me she was coming anyway

not sure when they arrived but they immediately made themselves at home, eating biscuits, drinking coffee and just generally keeping out the way in a very relaxed manner

meanwhile, i was coping with contractions fine. they were getting closer and closer and very very strong but i was managing to breath through them ok, kept active etc

i stuck my hypnobirth cd on at 11.30 to make sure i was calm for the next exam at 12.was amazing, i pretty much fell asleep! Despite all the contractions and the strength of them, mw said i was only 4cm but that she was certain that it was because my waters hadn't gone by that point and she offered an ARM. bit of a discussion with dh meant that we decided to go for it. i was really wanting to get in the pool but obviously couldn't because i wasn't dilated enough

well the hour or so from 12.10 til 13.11 was the most intense of my life!!!! when i found out what time she wasn't born, i didn't believe them! it seemed like ages.

i got straight in the pool after waters were broken, and the relief was immediate but unfortunately didn't last long, presumably because i was in transition by then (but didn't realise at the time!). i asked for gas and air but they delayed it (as per my birth plan and because they knew DD was only minutes away!)

So, she popped out and i had trouble getting her because she swam away from me!

one of the most magical bits was listening to the rain whilst sitting in the pool and as soon as she was born, the sun came out!

Aah tweakers - that does sound magical, congratulations at long last.

DGmum - many congrats to you also.

Where's cinnamon ? What's going on with her I wonder...

tweakers · 09/09/2010 04:24

roz i hope your induction yesterday was pre-empted by your baby arriving...thinking of you

thanks jungle

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2010 06:40

Congratulations DGmum!

I am still here, had contractions from 12 til 6 that got upto 15mins apart and were getting stronger but they then stopped. Trying think positively that they were doing something but I was very down last night and tired so had an early night. Had few contractions in night but nothing since I woke at 6 :-(

Lovely to hear your birth story tweakers, glad you didn't need an induction!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2010 06:43

That should be 12-6 yesterday afternoon.

tweakers · 09/09/2010 07:48

keep thinking positively cinnamon. exactly same happened to me. fast walking and nipple tweaking got mine going. oh and press the pad on both thumbs for a few mins every hour. oh and ball bouncing is great as well

how did you sleep last night?

oh and forgot to say, according to my mws, they don't think DD was overdue Hmm She was covered in thick vernix which they wouldn't expect if she was late so they agree with me that my date should have been a couple of weeks later!!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2010 07:59

I was awake 2-3 and then woke up at 6 so not bad. Just don't want to be totally knackered for labour!

I sit and bounce on my ball as much as I can but it makes my pubic bone ache so I tend to leave it til the evening. I am walking to school and back twice a day and walking the dog in the evening so doing lots of that. Just hoping something has improved and I'm more favourable when the midwife comes tomorrow for my second sweep.

DS was 2 weeks overdue and had no vernix what so ever! My theory is that boys are lazy and just can't be bothered to be born Wink

tweakers · 09/09/2010 08:09

DS was an hour and 45mins after his due date so that dispels your theory! Interesting to hear about your son's vernix. Actually thinking about it, my son had very little and he was spot on 40weeks. Crikey, after all this it looks like she was early!

cinnamon, i know how hard it is but really, your baby will be here soon. if nothing happens today, try and take the dog for as fast a walk as you can manage tonight. oh and when things do get start again, don't make the mistake i did by getting in the bath...it stopped everything!

lots of positive thoughts, concentrate on the fact that your body knows exactly what its doing now and what it needs to do

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2010 08:30

I was still working yesterday when I was having contractions and they all stopped when the kids went home. My friend who walks to school and back with me was very worried that I hadn't phoned all my parents and my DH wasn't on his way home but I knew they weren't painful enough to be established labour so didn't bother. Got quite uncomfortable by 6 but then slowed and stopped. She had a 3 1/2 hr labour with her first and 1 hr with her second so I suppose I can see why she was worried!

Trying to think that at least something is happening, didn't have any twinges at all with DS so thinking that even if I have to be induced this time it will hopefully be quicker as my body is already preparing to have the baby. Thanks for your support though tweakers, DH is not at his most sympathetic at the moment as he has had terrible tooth ache the last 2 days, hasn't been sleeping and is very grumpy! Just trying to hold back the tears as much as I can. DS keeps saying mummy why you crying and I feel so guilty that he's worrying about me!

tweakers · 09/09/2010 08:53

don't hold back the tears, sit in the loo on your own and let them all out. and then eat some chocolate!

another thing that i found helped me was having DD's moses basket near me. i focused on imaging her in it. it meant the end goal as it were, seemed easier to reach

i'm still taking it easy today and have got my laptop up in bed with me so make sure you keep posting if you want to. bottling up your emotions at the moment isn't the thing to do. you need to release the sad ones and focus on your increasing your oxytocin levels. have you got a film that you love watching? obviously not a sad one! a good comedy or a romantic one would be perfect. i was watching Don Juan de Marco on monday. you can do this Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2010 09:37

I know- they have a Will Smith season on channel 5 and they had the persuit of happyness on the other day, I decided as much as I love it I couldn't watch it just too sad!

It's so hard with everyone assuming that I am happy to be induced so I can get him out. As much as I don't want to be working and pregnant anymore I really don't want another induction so I'm really not looking forward to Sunday/Monday as everyone thinks I should be. Got to go out soon to meet my other childminded child, I'm very lucky that the kids I have are pretty good and even though I'm not as proactive as normal they are happy to play as long as they have some input from me.

DH is usually fantastic but he's been avoiding me a bit I feel that last few days because he knows I'm upset and he's not really sure what to do about it. With his tooth he's been really grumpy so we've had a couple of huge rows over nothing which doesn't really help. I know I should tell him that I need lots of cuddles but I know he's really stressed about the arrival of the baby too. He's picking his son up tomorrow from school and usually takes him back to school monday morning which is a 90mile round trip, luckily only 10 miles from work, but I bet he hasn't even thought about getting him back to school depending on the time they give me for induction Sunday/Monday. Just one more thing to worry about!

Just had my tutor ring me to discuss my coursework and I cried at her! She has recommended that I ask for more time to finish, and she's sure they'll be happy to one less thing to worry about. Although I was trying to finish at the right time and not have an extension but perhaps I shouldn't put so much pressure on myself, hand in date for everything is 8th November.

So tonight will be an evening of romantic comedy, cuddling DH while bouncing on ball, having had a long fast walk and a curry!

Enjoy your day in bed with your little one :)

tweakers · 09/09/2010 12:54

ok, plan of action for you cinnamon...

  1. ignore everyone outside of your very immediate family/friends, especially if they're being negative and assuming induction's happening
  1. give DH a hug, tell him you understand his tooth hurts and that he's stressed about the baby. tell him you're not having much fun either and its a hard time for both of you but together, as a team, you can do anything
  1. what course are you doing?? accept the extension but if you're happier, still try and get the work done for the original date. that way, you won't feel as if you've failed, the coursework will be in early and if its not finished, the pressure is off and it'll give you a bit of breathing space
  1. i approve of your plan for tonight so that can be number four!
  1. might be an idea to remind DH he needs to have a plan B for getting his son to school on monday but its not up to you to sort out
cinnamongreyhound · 09/09/2010 13:21

Sounds good! Kids all sleeping now so I have an hour and a bit of total peace :)

DH has been to dentist and has antibiotics so fingers crossed his mood will improve quickly. I need to talk to him as he made me feel worse last night because I know he's distancing himself from me deliberately. I am annoyed at him as he had to ride past our house to get to the dentist and didn't think it would be nice to pop in and say hello before he went back to work but I will forget about that by the time he gets home, hopefully Wink

I am studying for Early Years Professional Status, its quite a new course equivalent to a PGCE but for under 5's. I will email the head of the course this afternoon and see what she says. Just can't believe I cried at my tutor!

I will have to remind him about it, he took him back to school the Thursday after my due date and my mum was going to take him but my mum is on standby to take DS to preschool that day and she can't do both. If she needed to she could take DSS and DS could miss preschool as it's not as important, but I didn't want to distrupt DS too much when the baby arrived.

Will focus on my sweep tomorrow and hope the midwife has some positive news. Thank you so much for your support, I'm sure you have enough to cope with yourself!

tweakers · 09/09/2010 14:28

you're more than welcome. i'm getting all the fussing today that i didn't get during the pg so don't worry about me!

lovesaruby · 09/09/2010 14:53

Just popped on whilst Florence is snoozing and before the school run to see whats happening. Congrats to all those who have popped since I was last on - havent read all of it but Tweakers - your birth sounds fantastic, well done! Hope all those left waiting are not waiting long, be thinking of you!

porcamiseria · 09/09/2010 16:57

congrats DG mum, even bigger than my boy! well done

cinnamon, hang on in there XXX

DP had gone shopping and bought loads of raw materials for cooking, WTF??? cant he just live in ready made food for a few days? I am not cooking, have slept 6 hours in 4 days

cue a row, and its only day 3....

tweakers · 09/09/2010 21:47

and breathe porca...he'll get there in the end

thanks lovesaruby Smile

thinking of you tonight cinnamon

cinnamongreyhound · 10/09/2010 06:45

Well tweakers all didn't go quite to plan but not a bad evening. DH came home from work early and looked awful! He went straight upstairs, mainly due to the 4 children all wanting him to play with them! When they'd gone we had a good chat and cuddle and then I got some dinner for ds and me as he didn't want to eat. Marched the dog round the forest, put ds to bed and snuggled on sofa with dh watching friends, switching to bouncing on ball and back again! He mainly slept on me but was much better than evening before. I also emailled a reflexologist and she's ringing me this morning to talk about what she can possibly do for me over the weekend. Midwife is coming this morning and I'll report back after that on the condition of my cervix Wink

porcamiseria maybe he's planning to cook for you Grin

EmmaRoyd · 10/09/2010 07:56

Hi, Congratulations dgmum and Tweakers and anyone else I've not mentioned. Tweakers your birth sounds great, I started off in the pool and was loving it but my blood pressure rose and before I knew it I was flat on my back on a bed with monitoring wires everywhere. Sad

Porca I thought the same, perhaps he was going to cook for you, did he?

Cinamon we're all thinking of you. I can't beleive you are still looking after all those children, cooking and dog walking!! You are superhuman!

Grin

tweakers · 10/09/2010 09:04

cinnamon, I agree with emma's comment about you being superhuman!!

ooh, DS needs me, back in a sec

cinnamongreyhound · 10/09/2010 14:18

That's very kind of you but I feel far from superhuman!

Midwife came at 11.30 in the end, hardly first appointment of the day! She said that my cervix is still tubular but very stretchy and favourable and 2cm+ dilated. She said she's done what she can but it is still very posterior. Have been booked for induction Monday morning at 8.30, I will be monitored for 30mins, have gel and then be monitored for a further 20 mins and sent home. They will repeat at 3pm and then go back in for ARM Tuesday am if necessary. She feels that as labour started with one gel with DS and that this is my second I shouldn't need more than 2 gels at the most and she is working at the hospital 2-10pm Monday so might get to deliver my baby- seems a bit optimistic but better to be optimistic I guess. Have been very uncomfortable since she did the sweep and have already had a couple of mild contractions so maybe it won't come to that. Thank you for all your support! On the plus side if nothing happens I'm planning to take DS to the cinema tomorrow morning which I wouldn't have been able to do if baby had arrived Wink
